It's been a while since I've seen Detroit take it on the chin the way they did losing to the New York MOTHER FUCKING Islanders last night. 6-0?! What happened?! I really am having trouble piecing this together because I don't see how bad you can get beaten by a a HORRID team like the Isles. This was not just a bad loss but a very embarrassing one at that.
Wings vs Isles I'm at a loss for words MgoBlog
Lay off the Red Wings, they've had a lot of injuries this year and have yet to gel this season because of all the injuries they've have to deal with. Also, they lost to Nashville 8-0 and Columbus 8-2 in the same week last season, a couple weeks before the playoffs started no less. So chill out, it's one game.
They are currently sitting in the ninth spot in playoff contention and really needed this win. In their current position, you have to beat the bad teams, especially with all the injuries. My hope is another team (Phoenix, LA, or Colorado) takes a nose dive out of a playoff spot but this game was ugly.
There's still a lot of time left in the season. All three of those teams you listed have overachieved this year, and IMO, I don't see all three of them making the playoffs. Phoenix got off to a hot start last year as well but really trailed off around this point last year. I'm really not worried about our chances at making the playoffs.
It happens. There are 82 games in a season, you're bound to lose a few like that. Once everyone is healthy, I could see the Wings being a very dangerous lower-seed team in the playoffs. Imagine how those top seeds will feel about having the Wings in a first round matchup. My guess is not awesome.
A west coast road trip followed by a trip to NY. That's a rough schedule. I'm still not concerned in the long term. As long as they can stay close enough to 8th while they get players back and start to gel they'll be fine. We have two great goalies, two of the best defensive forwards in the league, and some great character guys. Getting Franzen back and rolling will be key.
I will say that I'm worried that if we get bounced from the playoffs early or not make it Lidstrom retires.
There is no excuse for getting beat by 6 and only posting 16 shots.....
However, coming off a 4 game road trip to the Pacific Coast of the US, and having to fly all the way to Long Island does not make much sense (but since when does the NHL do things that make sense?). This game had loss written all over it regardless of who the opponent was. They still needed a better effort though.
Injuries suck and have really been re-god damn-diculous this year, but everyone is starting to get back now and the Wings are still within one point of the eighth place in the West. That is all I wanted during this plague of injuries, and I am still content with how things are going. If by the olympic break, they are in one of the eight playoff spots, I think we will be good shape
I don't mind you being angry with the Wings play, but there's no reason to go making fun of my poor Islanders. They have a hard enough time without getting called out on college football message boards.
In all seriousness, the Islanders can be tough to play against. They come at you hard and can make life difficult. Their biggest problem has been play 60 minutes. They have been able to jump all over a lot of good teams.
The wings are going to be just fine, it was just a bad game. The Islanders arent that bad of a team that u make them out to be. What is really embarrassing is the way the Pistons are playing, they were doing alot better when the starters were injured. It seems that there is no chemistry every since chauncey left
I agree that was the worst Wings game of the season, arguably the worst in recent memory.
The only other game that stands out in my mind is a Wings game I went to in Chicago in '08 near the end of the season. They had the division wrapped up and Chicago was scrambling for a playoff spot (at which they weren't successful), but Hasek was chased from net by a much inferior Blackhawks team.
Still, I'm no fair-weather fan. I watched every second of that game against the Isles.
No worries here. Although a W would have been nice, sometimes scheduling bites you.
The OP needs to chill out. They were jet lagged from the west coast swing, have still played one less game than L.A. and are still just a point out while dealing with key injuries. The Wings will make the playoffs, I can almost guarantee it.
Not everyone here is a Wings fan you know. Go Hawks!
I'm still amazed they've been able to tread water during this injury-fueled freefall. I give a lot of credit to Babcock and the coaching staff, as well as the rookie Howard playing well beyond his years in net.
