Job well done.

Agreed. Should have been 350+.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:33 PM ^
Completely agree. Jake Butt would have helped if not for the couple dropped balls. If I remember correctly, he did that once last year and came back the next week on a tear.

It was against the 128th ranked team out of 128 teams.

Speight

Butt had more drops today than all of last season. Still a great game, you know he will be his hardest critic. Go Blue.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:00 PM ^
Would like to see him hook up with Butt more reliably. Seemed like there were several times he was on target there and it just slipped out.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:04 PM ^
Yeah but theres certain times when you just want to go elsewhere besides the butt.

We should encourage more Butt stuff.

When a tight end is spread wide, you can't help but go there
September 10th, 2016 at 4:05 PM ^
with a tight end should be less sloppy.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:06 PM ^
Double entendre on point.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:46 PM ^
Today was not Speights fault. I'm sure Butt will be the first to say that.

...throwing the ball away and taking a sack when there was no play to be made. He's come a long way from the guy took those first snaps against Minnesota last year. I'm optimistic that he's going to be a very steady hand on the wheel this year. I'm impressed.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:17 PM ^
If you look at Speight 2015 in that game versus now, the development is quite evident and I think that is probably one of the most important takeaways from this game, where there were indeed plays that had him in a bind. Those were sound decisions and it definitely gives me hope that the offense is in good hands as we march on through the schedule.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:55 PM ^
Yes. Yardage is good. Mistake-free football even better (though they are not independent variables...).
Also enjoying luxury of backup QBs getting some game time.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:45 PM ^
Agree. I was convinced he was a winner with the Minn game last year. Now I'm convinced he has command of the offense and can lead this team to a lot of wins. Upside is huge here, he's got all the tools--the one on top of his shoulders might be his biggest weapon.

Witu the rest of he pieces in place, you can win a championship with Speight at QB, IMO.

"owies" on D will be healed by next week.

probably not Mone. :(
September 11th, 2016 at 3:04 AM ^
IMO this would be an interesting thread if Speight had like 9 starts or something. Given that this is only his second start ever, it really isn't a very interesting stat. It's basically the first college football game he has ever thrown a large number of passes in.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:04 PM ^
Thats probably one of the best stat lines of any Michigan QB since Henne, no? Denard had some wild games but they usually featured 50% completions and a few INTs

Gonna be bruised. The OL and blitz pickup have to improve, or we'll soon be moving to our backup QB. Shouldn't have had to take that much punishment from UCF.

How about if we have the girl in the red bikini dancing and a picture of the monkey on the wall?
September 10th, 2016 at 4:26 PM ^
I believe the qb position is in great hands. I honestly think we are 3 deep at the position and all are very capable of leading us to victory.

I was always pulling for Speight to win the QB battle, but I must admit O'Korn has really looked sharp when he gets his chances. And Morris may well be the best third string QB in college football. JH gets the most out of his QBs.

Forum purists puzzle me. Who cares? I know this topic could've been covered in snowflakes. But, is it that big of a deal?

Go Blue!!
September 10th, 2016 at 5:36 PM ^
Butt would've gone over 100 Yds to go with his 2 tds if not for those drops. Very weird, but still a good game overall.
September 10th, 2016 at 5:39 PM ^
My concern continues to be "STOP THE RUN" and the power running game. It should continue to improve, but to beat the Big 10s best, it's a must. Go Blue!
September 10th, 2016 at 6:47 PM ^
UCF's game plan was to pick on an inexperienced QB by stacking the box to take away the run and force him to beat them with his arm (which he did) and blitz the hell out of him to see if they could force him to make an error (which he didn't). Future opponents will take notice that this is not a winning strategy against 2016 Michigan.
September 10th, 2016 at 7:29 PM ^
Yeah but the UCF QB threw a pretter ball. He did win that one.
September 10th, 2016 at 9:49 PM ^
They out-hit us... their passes hit players' hands harder than our passes did.
September 10th, 2016 at 8:23 PM ^
Speight. Confidence building numbers and performance. Really looks like a polished QB.
Excited about where his progression is heading. O'Korn looked good when in too. Go Blue !!
