Will you make the trip to Columbus this year?

Submitted by WingsNWolverines on

As a Wolverine fan behind enemy lines its almost unthinkable of Wolverine fans being in the heart of the "worst state ever" but there are a good few of us in this hellish city. This year as we all know it's Michigan's turn to come to Columbus and face the Bucknuts in the Shoe. However this year there is a much stronger feeling like last year that Michigan will once again defeat Ohio St thus making the ticket demand higher than in previous years (2008-2010). I being a Columbus resident will make the effort to join my maize and blue brothers in a see of soviet scarlet and grey. The question is if you can get tickets or do get tickets will you be here in "Urban Nation" on November 24th?

If I could find a ticket that was no higher than $250, and was in the Michigan section, I'd try and go. I wouldn't trust being able to sit anywhere else in that stadium wearing UM gear.

I highly doubt Ohio St would have any control with how they give "visitors tickets" out. I knew a friend who went to the 2006 game and he said he bought them through Ticketmaster. Paid a fortune for them too :/ It was in the Michigan section too.

I will watch Ohio play Cincinnatti live at the Shoe and I promise to root my hardest for Cincy. An Ohio school has to beat Ohio sooner or later right?

I heard ohio fans are even bigger assholes when M fans go to comeblowus. No reason to risk actually being assaulted IMO. I'd rather just wait a year and go to the game in AA.

Your post is almost unreadable as an exercise in English comprehension. Thankfully you didn't bury the lede.

I might go. It's 50/50 at this point. Why wouldn't I go?

Every time I set foot near campus, I get pissed off (for reasons similar to Brian's experience years ago).  I already know how to spell "Ohio" all by myself.  So my answer is most likely "no."

Call me pessimistic, but with OSU's personnel, I don't see many growing pains.  They already have their QB on O (granted, with not as many weapons in the skill positions as they'd like), and their D will be VERY good.  Couple that with that game being their bowl for the year, it's going to be tough to pull out the "W."

I think it all rests on the progression of our D line and health of the O line.

Not once have I been physically bothered in any way.  Mild trashtalking; that is it.  Maybe I'm just not one of those people looking for a fight.  At least not in Columbus, Ohio on that particular weekend.

It's a great city, Columbus, and a really great game-day atmosphere around The Shoe (that is no longer a horseshoe).

I plan to be there this November.  And host OSU guests next November.  (I actually think that I am going to two games there this year, given Michigan's truncated home schedule.)

I've been to games there, off and on, since the mid-seventies.  When I first started going to Michigan-Ohio State games, they were like Super Bowls insofar as the fans were serious, less partisan and less rowdy.  It's gotten steadily worse (behavior-wise) over the years in both towns (Ann Arbor and Columbus), probably more so in Columbus.

Why do you think that is? I've talked to my Dad about sports games in general, and he has the same viewpoint as you, that things have been getting more rowdy between fans

But I'll also say this; fans can get really obnoxious when they haven't been beaten down.  I was in Ohio Stadium in the waning days of Woody's reign there.  To see us shut them out 22-zip.  And they were gumbling about firing Woody.  Loudly.  Before the Gator Bowl with Clemson.  The OSU fans weren't in any position to be assholes in those days.

We owe them some beatings.

Probably all the other Families will line up against us. That's all right. These things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood. Been ten years since the last one. You know, you gotta stop them at the beginning. Like they should have stopped Hitler at Munich, they should never let him get away with that, they was just asking for trouble.

I have gone to a few games there (only have seen one win in 1996) and have not been bothered other than some typical trash talking.  The win in '96 was my first trip to Columbus and it was GREAT.   I have never seen that many people walking away from a stadium like a bunch of zombies......all were quiet and NO one was talking.  We were big underdogs that year as we were the year before (also a win by us), and I think their fans just couldn't believe that we could upset them two years in a row.....although they should've expected it since it was during the John Cooper years.  I'm hoping to see another win this year when I'm there.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I was on campus in 04 when Troy Smith did his thing. OSU were underdogs that game, as I recall, and they treated it like they'd just won the national championship: bottles thrown at M cars and fans walking by, an elderly couple walking down the street were heckled with random kids running up yelling "fuck Michigan" to their faces... I'd probably say I saw no less than 11 fans pass out before me as I walked. It was like Normandy...

I've been thinking about going this year, getting the bad taste of my last visit (2010) out of my head. I didn't have too many problems that year, just a lot of yelling at me, but that could have been cause we weren't that competitive. Who knows what will happen if we have a solid record going in and win

I live 2 miles directly west of the stadium and hope to go, and possibly throw a little MGoTailgate at our place this year. Have I check with wifey though to see if we'll be in town.

Columbus as a city is pretty terrible. Ohio Stadium (although people hate to admit it) is really nice. I went in '06 and '10, so between that and the other 5 Michigan away games I've attended in which they lost, I will not be going. I need to break my road losing streak before I attempt another game at the Horseshoe. 0-7 all time is quite awful. But at least I was finally able to attend a win over OSU. That was fun.

Dude have you even been to Columbus. You over the top fans with issues need to seek help. Not liking osu is ok. Thinking everything Ohio sucks is just dumb. We get it you're hardcore Michigan fan and think you gain more respect by replying that Columbus is a hole. Grow up you're not 15 anymore.

is one of the many great/ fun things to do as a fan. Just like the Yankees/Red Sox, Cowboys/Redskins, Alabama/ Auburn, etc. It doesn't make us immature if we refuse to support the state of OHIO. We are only having a good time.

DirkMcGurk

Yankees dislike the Red Sox not the whole state. You have three lane examples. I get not liking Ohio State but the constant it is a hole proves the child mentality you have. Ohio is better then Michigan. Hell Detroit as a city has nothing comparable in To it as far as a hole and I love the Tigers and Wings

I was Born there at Riverside Hospital In columbus! Was born BLUE. I have zero issues with it being called a hole or do i consider said accuser to be lacking in any mental upkeep over the course of the persons adult life. If you're not a Michigan fan on here and acting to be, you will be caught.

I managed to pick up 3 tickets for The Game this year. I'll be wearing maize and blue, in the heart of the OSU student section..
