Will we win games in 2009 we should lose

Submitted by nmwolverine on

The topic of possible 10-2 season brought to my mind (and a comment) that I am hoping for one or more wins we shouldn't by all rights get. Perhaps ND was one of those; perhaps not. But overall, do you think this team will beat a team it shouldn't, such as OSU or PSU. I raise this as a marker for the new regime. Under the old regime it never seemed possible. To the contrary we might have lost one from time to time that we should have won due to the conservative approach. (But see Rose Bowl against Texas that we almost won, and we had no business being that close.) And of course there were a lot of close ones that we should have won handily. Will the 2009 team squeak some out, like Wisconsin last year, it has no business winning and why.

i think seeing the ND game shows that we can win games we shouldn't. what the more important question is will we lose games we should win. but to answer your question: we own penn state

Two points:

(1) The 10-2 post was really just a comment on the likely Vegas odds.

(2) It is also likely we will lose a game (or two) that we are supposed to win. If you balance off the upset wins versus the upset losses, you sort of get back to the Vegas odds.

Yes, we already have won at least one game we probably were expecting to lose. However, the new question should be, with such early success, will we lose games we should win? This would put some water on the hot season.

We just beat a good ND team. If the team can:

1. stay as focused as they have.

2. can play as mistake free

3. can take this show on the road to some tough opponents,
Ill, Iowa, and Wisc.

We could beat ND again,we just shouldn't have beat them last game. Not because we didn't earn it, because they almost had it sealed until Maverick Weiss decided to air it out

I think the first legitimate upset would be @Iowa, as I don't think this team will be coming down from the emotional high of traveling to East Lansing the week before. Even though I'm sure UM will be an underdog at State, those rivalry games are almost impossible to predict, especially when the teams are similarly matched. Beating MSU would be a nice win, but beating Iowa on the road would be huge. Win that game, then we can talk about 10-2 or 9-3.

Don't be so sure about Michigan being a dog in EL, especially if Sparty drops one or both of their next two road games (ND and Wisco.)
In the gambling world home field advantage only nets the home team -3.
