Will we reach 115,000?

Submitted by TheIcon34 on

Does anyone know if we will put both bands on the field in temporary bleachers in an attempt to pack as many people as possible in the stadium? I recall several people stating we could top the 115,000 mark, so is that still viable by virtue of confirming there are temporary bleacher seats on the field?

Every non-ticketholder in the stadium counts, but they don't actually bother to count how many of the ticketholders show up.  They use the number of tickets sold as the starting point, and then add the media, bands, players, people with field passes, etc.  (That's how the 100K streak survived games like '95 Purdue, when nowhere near that many were actually present.)

The visiting band has always sat on the field.  From 2002-2004, the Michigan band would sell their tickets for the big games and sit on the field instead.  But as far as I know, they haven't done that since.

"Priority seating" games (I think that was the term?) predated 2002 for sure.  About 1999, as I recall.  And lasted through 2005.  Let me tell you, as someone who watched a few pretty key games at field level through the opposing team's bench, that was a total shaft to the MMB.

And now that the band has moved over to the other side of the field to the student section, it will never happen again.  There were also safety concerns having the band wrapped all the way around the corner into the end zone, and still are on the other corner when there's a visiting band.  Nowadays they're adamant about not having anyone past the extension of the sideline, but even at that, it can get scary when there's a few players barreling at you on a sidelines play.

It happened as far back as 99?  That's strange.  I always look for the band on TV.  I have a freakishly good memory and the first game I remember them on the field was 2002 Washington (the Phil Brabbs game).  They also sat on the field for 02-MSU, 03-ND, 03-OSU, 04-Iowa and 04-MSU.

The 2 biggest home games in 99 (ND and OSU) the band was in the stands.

Fritz thinks that Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start

The bands will very likely not be on the field.

1)  Only so many people are allowed on the field, and ND brings all of their band last I knew.  This was deemed a major issue in 2003 and again in 2005 (when the entire ND band was left behind because they couldn't bring everyone).

2)  The seats in the stands where the band sits are not meant for regular spectators.  There are special spaces for the tubas and the drumline, none of which have regular assigned seating numbers.

I've got tomorrow night's final tally at  115,113. Gut feeling. It will be done.

EDIT: Also, this thread should be turned into a "Guess tomorrow night's attendence" thread. Maybe someone will throw in an mgoshirt or something from Moe's...

is counted as all the people in the stadium (not sure if players/coaches/etc count).  They can only sell X amount of tickets.  When games are sold out, the difference in attendance figures usually comes from the amount of security, media, vendors, etc. that are at each game.  A sell out against Cupcake City is almost always going to have a lower attendance figure for a sellout against Ohio because there will be more media, security, etc. at the OSU game.

Thread jack alert.  When the weather says precipitation 30% does that mean that it there is a 30% chance of any rain at all or does that mean that 30% of the elasped time it will be raining (that is it will rain for an average of 3 minutes out of 10).

Attendence will be 114133.  The last four digits also happen to coincide with the final score of 41-33 (lest some smart alec says "4-133" or something similiar.
