Will Taylor, Carter and Countess commits impact McClure decision?
I know that Stefan is very interested in Michigan but I couldn't help but wonder if the recent commitments by Blake Countess, Tamani Carter, and Raymon Taylor will have an impact on his recruitment. We also have Greg Brown and Delonte Hollowell as cornerback commits. Seems like a lot of CBs! Taylor, Countess and McClure are probably the best of the group and seem like true competitors that would welcome the competition. Any insight TomVH, DGDestroys, others? Thanks in advance. Perhaps I am off base for my concern. I would really like McClure to be Blue on Feb 2nd!

It seems like this staff might be projecting possible moves to safety for a couple of the guys. Maybe that is one factor in the large numbers.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:04 PM ^
One of them could and probably will move to safety
January 24th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
You cannot have tamani DB's. Just sayin.
Think of it as the opposite of some of our recent recruiting classes...
January 24th, 2011 at 4:05 PM ^
will be the biggest factor.

The general opinion is that McClure is deciding between UCLA and Cal (distance factor). Michigan still has a chance, especially with Hoke going for an in-home visit on Monday; but the Cal schools are the probable leaders right now.
Not having a DB coach probably hurts his recruitment too, as that's who Stefan would be spending most of his time with.

how do we not have a defensive back coach yet?!! it is absolutely shocking to me that we have 1 week left in recruiting and we dont even have all of our position coaches.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
doesnt have a wr coach and they have openly said they might not have one until after signing day. i dont know how common it is not to have every position coach filled but im sure its not devastating for a program.
January 24th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
I'd guess that OSU not having a position coach =/= Michigan not having a position coach at the moment.
January 24th, 2011 at 5:35 PM ^
And just a week ago wasn't the question - how can we not have a DC yet? It's quite probable our DB and DL coaches have been busy for the same reason he was.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:08 PM ^
countess didn't recommit yet, did he???
January 24th, 2011 at 4:09 PM ^
I shall hereby retire my phrase "Can he play corner?"
January 24th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
Have to switch to "Can he play DT?"
January 24th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
Can Carter play DT?
January 24th, 2011 at 4:10 PM ^
Who is Will Taylor?
January 24th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
Taylor refers to Raymon Taylor. I was asking if the commitments of Raymon Taylor, Blake Countess and Tamani Carter would have an impact on the recruitment of Stefan McClure.
January 24th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
i think it was a joke. :)

To get you over the hump...congratulations on your huge endowment of mgopoints. Unfortunately it looks as if I was a second too late.
January 24th, 2011 at 7:36 PM ^
How would you know?
January 25th, 2011 at 9:12 AM ^
Does not make this comment any less plebeian. I do not need any insider information to see that 10000 mgopoints is quite a respectable sum.
January 24th, 2011 at 7:33 PM ^
maybe it wasn't...

Will (Raymon) Taylor, Carter and Countess impact his decision?

January 24th, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
kid out of reach now too?
January 24th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Either visiting us or Alabama this weekend -- he hasn't decided yet.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:48 PM ^
bc the way delta charges for flights we may have to give up a scholarship to pay for the last second flights!
January 24th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Scout has Raven listed as visiting this weekend. Not sure how accurate that is given the info that he may cancel to visit Bama.
I would love to snag Raven, I think he's extremely underrated and has great size and speed. He would be a perfect candidate for safety.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:20 PM ^
It's kind of unfortunate, because looking back, I'm sure most of us would rather have Raven or McClure over Carter and maybe (?) Taylor, but it probably will influence their decision. I'm not optimistic about either of those guys playing for us next year.

its just the game you play with recruiting. its always a risk to lose out on kids based on signing others, but if you hold off then you may lose them all.
not that its real or anything but just playing ncaa11 makes u think the same way!
so yeah its a tough pill to swallow thinking that had we held back on a few of the guys we have signed already that we couldve landed better players. but i think the mantra at this point in the game needs to simply be "at least we are getting good players vs no players"
January 24th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
I don't think McClure would be scared off by, say, Tamani Carter.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
plus isnt carter the more likely choice to moving to a safety position, plus porb redshirt this year?
mcclure could more then likely step in and play earlier
January 24th, 2011 at 5:00 PM ^
Carter is more likely than McClure to play FS. McClure's a corner all the way (well, he could play WR, too, but that's beside the point).
January 24th, 2011 at 5:07 PM ^
Not sure McClure would be scared away by anyone.
If he doesn't pick UM, I think he wanted to stay home.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
We have a lot of depth now at DB I would much rather spend what few scholarships we have left, once Bryant, Clark and Willinigham commit, on some other positions like TE, DT or OL. Maybe Barnett, Cooper and Fisher.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
is YOUNG and on paper only tho. i think its hard to pass up a player like mcclure IF he leaves cali and wants to come here.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
What about Hollowell and Brown? Any updates about their commitments?
January 24th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
and taking classes. hollowell is as firm of a commit as possible, so nothing to worry about here.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
Im prettu sure Brown is already enrolled. Could be wrong. Hollowell is 100% as far as I know. What is Blake's status? He still thinking about PSU? I heard he just wants a confirmation from the current coaches that he is still wanted, that sound about right?
edit:7NK7 has a faster computer than me

Hollowell is solid.
Brown has already enrolled.

Usually athletes are not afraid of competition. It's kinda what they do.
January 24th, 2011 at 5:03 PM ^
not sure if i missed this but thought i would ask bc this is obviously the final weekend and last shot to impress.
January 24th, 2011 at 5:19 PM ^
thanks man, i appreciate it
January 24th, 2011 at 5:03 PM ^
The smaller corners will be used in the nickel. Hate to put it out there, but we need big corners on the big recievers.
January 24th, 2011 at 5:08 PM ^
Are we feeling confident about Countess now?
January 24th, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
I think it's safe to assume, as of now, that he's in.
January 24th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
Have the coaches contacted any bigger names?
I was wishfully thinking that since we got Mattison he might try to talk to Curtis Grant or someone of that caliber and convince them to go blue. It made sense in my head, Grant is from virginia, probably a ravens fan, Mattison calls up "Hey Curtis, would you like to be Ray Lewis 2.0" Curtis, "Hell yes, im comitted!" I'm sure I'm not the only one that has imagined this.
