Will a Michigan Player rush for over 1,000 yards

Submitted by Rx on

Good Lord saturdays can be boring...can't wait til football starts, 2 more weeks!

So will a  Single Michigan player rush for over 1,000 yards this season? Lets look at the likely canidates

Denard- My choice to be starting QB this year. To get to 1,000 yds a player needs to avg 83 yds a game. Denard is an amazing athlete and even though he's grown as a passer he will still be rushing quite often. In Pat Whites career he rushed for over 1,000 yds twice, can denard do what pat white could?

Rb's-  Not even Rich Rod seems to know who the strarting running back will be yet. But I believe at least one back will emerge and be the featured back. I would put my money on Toussaint. But even as a featured back he's carries are gonna be cut into by others like vincent smith. Will Toussaint or others get enough carries to reach the 1,000 yd mark?

I don't believe a single player will rush for 1,000 yds. Denard will come close, but even if he is the starter Tate will get some snaps. For the running backs I believe we suffering from the good problem of having multiple talented backs. I just don't think one player will get enough carries. Our running game is going to be great this year.

So what does everyone think?

We don't have a back with the game-breaking ability to command most of the carries, so there will be too many guys, including the QB, who will be getting carries for any one of them to get there.

It's pretty unlikely that we have a 1000 yard rusher. I don't think one guy will be the outright starter at QB or HB, at least not early enough in the season to be able to get a good foundation for a 1000 yards season. I think Denard will have a lot of success running the ball, but he's still only a sophomore. As for the halfbacks, there's just too much competetion at this point to be able to speculate. No real star at HB gives me doubts that a 1000 year is in the making. It's definitely possible, but I don't see it happening.

Yes, every RB and Denard will have over 1000 yards as we roll every team on our schedule by scoring over 90 points per game towards our next national title.

I don't see why not, providing one of the running backs wins the job convincingly, starts out fast and stays healthy. Toussaint or Cox are the 2 I find most likely. There are going to be some long runs for RB's with defenses keying on Denard.

...can't wait.  If someone separates from the pack and stays healthy, with an improved line, yes I do think it's possible.  More likely is two guys in the 600 - 800 range + a QB with respectable numbers.

Watching that RB drill on  the BTN special, I saw Fitz, White, Cox, and even Grady with decent moves.  Not sure why we didn't see Smith in the drill, but I still think he will get most of the carries if healthy this year.  We should be hearing about Shaw's eligibility soon.

It seems the majority of us are on the same page. It is unlikely we have a back over 1,000 yds. Not enough carries to go around. A bunch of good backs but none that have proven to be great just yet.  V Smith, Fitz, Cox, and Shaw will all probably be getting a significant amount of carries. Mix in Denard running the ball as well and it makes it seem like it would be very unlikely for one of these guys to hit that mark. But who knows? We'll see. Can't wait!

I'm not sure if it will happen, but I think it's possible. I think Toussaint or Cox are probably the best bets to do it, and Denard might be up there as well.

To get to 1,000 yds a player needs to avg 83 yds a game.

Are you assuming no bowl game?  Counting a bowl, a player needs to average 77 ypg.
