Will Michigan have a Midnight Madness?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

With college basketball season approaching, I've seen the ESPNU live look-in commerical for Midnight Madness in a few days. Will Michigan be having one? It's been a couple years since they have.

Doubtful, they did two years ago and it was at 10:00pm, still a good amount of fun.  That's where Novak did the between the legs dunk.

However last year they did not, Beilein doesn't seem to be a fan of it.

If they were going to hold one, it seems like it would have been announced by now. I haven't seen any mention of one in any of the coverage of yesterday's Media Day. And Beilein made no mention of one during his radio interviews yesterday with WDFN (podcast) and WTKA (podcast).

On a side note: Beilein mentioned in the interviews that there's been a delay in laying the floor at the Player Development Center, so it'll be about a month before that facility is finished.

If you make it an event, more than a practice, It has a chance of being a lot more than just another practice. Make it a really good atmosphere. Open it up to the public. Pack the stadium. University of Memphis does it, and has top-flight talent kids beating down the door to go to a terrible school in a even worse conference.

The year after Michigan wins the tournament.  I dont know that a midnight madness would fill Crisler just yet, but another tourney run and the fan support just might get there...

They really should do it. Advertise the shit out of it. Facebook, Twitter, TV, whatever. They have a 75% newly renovated arena. They could sell discounted season tickets, student tickets, ticket packages, and even single games there. If the non-student turnout is average, they would probably consider that a success.

Beilein isn't the publicity, self-promotion clown that Izzo is, but I'm sure Brandon is going to come up with some new twists for the basketball team.
