Will a 6-2 Big Ten record make the rose bowl?

Submitted by Ultimate Quizmaster on
Coming into today, only Iowa and Ohio State remain undefeated in the conference. If Purdue, Iowa, MSU win, and then assuming PSU wins, the top of the conference will look like Ohio State 3-1 Iowa 3-0 Wisconsin 2-2 Minnesota 2-2 Michigan State 3-1 Penn State 2-1 Obviously a lot can change, but this would put Iowa, MSU, OSU, Penn State on top of the conference. And if it were up to me, I'd prefer Iowa go to the rose bowl, for obvious reasons. But it seems like with everyone's inconsistent play this year, anything can happen. Actually, it seems like Sparty has the easiest schedule remaining. The would have the advantage in tiebreakers since it's been 392 years since their last RB. Anyways, it just seems the conference is up for grabs. Even for us, it's not out of reach.

No. Unless Iowa is in the National title game it is almost statistically impossible. It presumes we win out. It presumes Iowa somehow leaps SC, VaTech, Boise State, one of Alabama or Florida in the polls to make the title game. If we have our sights set on a BCS bowl it's gonna have to be at-large. I'm not holding my breath. We aren't even ranked.

Not for us. I could see the Big Ten champs with two losses, but we'd need some kind of crazy tiebreaker situation with Iowa (and two Iowa losses). Or Iowa in the title game, which isn't going to happen.

if we could win 3 of the next 5; I would be very happy at 8-4, and we'll worry about the Rose Bowl next year. Looks like it will be Iowa unless there is a major shake-up.

AT Michigan State and AT Ohio State for the Hawks. I'm still not sold on them. They could end up with two conference losses. So could Ohio State. So could Penn State. So the answer to the question in my epinion is yes.

To the OP: Maybe, but who is where are Iowa's two losses? Yes, UM exposed Iowa and Wisky played them close for a half but I guess anything can happen this year in the Big 10. Still, if Iowa does win the conference they will get destroyed in the Rose Bowl.
