Wilkins, Paskorz, Kinnard, Murphy Position Questions...

Submitted by k06em01 on
I was hoping that some knowledgable posters could help me figure out what position we're recruiting these four DE/DB-types at. Here's my best guess... Ken Wilkins. 4-star DE/3-star DE. 6-3, 244/230, 4.61/4.74...I read that he's being told he's going to start off at DE. Makes sense, as he's the biggest of the four we're looking to end up with. Clarence Murphy. 3-star DE. 6-2/6-3, 230, no 40/5.13...I read that he's being told he's being recruited to replace Brandon Graham at DE. Makes sense, he's the slowest and the second biggest of the four we're going after. Jordan Paskorz. 3-star DE. 6-3/6-4, 225/223, 4.9/4.74...I have not read anything about what we are recruiting him at, but I've heard that he could be a DE or DB. If Wilkins and Murphy are being recruited as DE's, however, it would seem as though he's being recruited as a DB. Antonio Kinnard. 3-star LB/3-star DE. 6-4, 210, no 40...I read that he's being recruited as a DB, but I also heard that he could stick at LB. Based on the film I've seen, however, he doesn't have the speed we're looking at in a MLB. ...If I had to guess, I would say the defensive line depth chart looks something like this going into next season: NT: Campbell, Sagesse DT: Martin, Banks, Patterson?, TALBOTT DE: Van Bergen, LaLota, Heininger, WILKINS, MURPHY DB: Roh, Herron, Watson, PASKORZ, KINNARD EDIT - DB = Death Backer. lol, I'll just use "Q" for quick from now on. I didn't realize so many posters would actually think I was listing Craig Roh, Brandon Herron, Steve Watson, Jordan Paskorz and Antonio Kinnard as defensive backs. sheesh. It seems strange that we're so hot after the package deal of Grimes and Murphy with Wilkins coming in at DE, and Christian (maybe a safety?), Avery, Talbott and Witty all coming in at CB, doesn't it? Especially with as little as three scholarships remaining.

me that you mean LB and not DE. Actually you don't have to, we know thats what you mean. edit: I think you actually mean deathbacker = DB????

We might also be recruiting Ken Wilkens as a QB. With a 4.61/40, he's relatively fast and has good size. I think we could see him play some QB next year.

Wilkins is being recruited to play the LB/DE hybrid position. He'll start off there at least, though he's quite big already, and with Barwis he could probably play around 250-260 in the next few years, meaning he'll be a DE. Paskorz is being recruited to play the hybrid position as well, but I think he'll end up being a DE in the end. Kinard is a LB. He's not huge but he can add some bulk (redshirt next year) and probably play one of the Middle-Linebacker spots. Maybe if we accrue a lot of LB depth in the future and he bulks up to 230+ he could play the LB/DE position. Murphy was told by the coaches he could "fill in Graham's shoes", though reports say he weighs like 217 lbs? Obviously he'll need to bulk up but he should be a DE. So basically.. we're going to have an interesting defensive line picture in coming years. But this is a good problem to have.

i read an interview on rivals where wilkins said he was going to start off at "defensive end" fwiw. murphy is listed at 230lbs on both rivals and scout now. He's a DE/DT on his high school team. does anyone know what kind of speed kinnard has?

not sure I agree with all of those projections...starting from the front to back: #1) talbott probably redshirts. #2) i read that wilkins stated he's going to be starting at "defensive end." he probably redshirts, regardless. but he'll have a chance to get in there on pass-rushing situations: NT-Martin, DT-Van Bergen, DE-LaLota/Wilkins, Q-Roh. #3) mouton and leach were the starters at inside linebacker at the end of the season. i know that we all want to see fitzgerald to take the spot, or for ezeh to reclaim it, but there's no reason to believe its going to happen. #4) i'd imagine that brandon smith starts the season at the sam. he could be a starter there. #5) isiah bell has gained a lot of weight (around 220lbs now) and is going to start off inside. #6) josh furman is extremely raw, and will probably redshirt. #7) don't forget about mike jones at the sam. #8) don't forget about thomas gordon at fs. #9) rogers probably won't be brought back for a fifth season. if he is, it will be as a corner, not a ss. #10) i don't see adrian witty beating out jt floyd as a backup cb.

4) Brandon Smith has played WILL and FS this year. He moved to WILL because the coaches had him at safety and realized he's not fast enough/quick enough to play man coverage. Now you're projecting that they'll put him at SAM where one of his main priorities is running side-by-side with slot receivers? 5) Isaiah Bell probably won't "start off" inside, since he already "started off" inside back in August. 7) Reports not too long ago indicated that Jones has already been moved to MIKE, although I don't know if that's true or not. 9) Yeah, I sincerely doubt that Rogers will be brought back for a fifth season. That's because he was a third-year junior this year. So unless you think he's going to redshirt as a senior in 2010, then it would be darn near impossible for him to come back for a fifth year.

4) I heard Rich Rod saying that Brandon Smith was somewhere in between a LB and a S. Sounded perfect for the hybrid LB/S Sam position. But if he struggles in man coverage, maybe not. 7) That's interesting about Mike Jones. He must have gotten bigger and/or struggled in coverage. He was listed at WILL throughout the season on rivals though, fwiw.
