Wilcher, Jackson on WTKA Right Now with Jaime Morris

Submitted by elhead on

This is one hell of a conversation between Thomas Wilcher, Fred Jackson and Jamie Morris. Jaimo hits a home run today.

Wilcher and Larry Harold (Roquan Smith's coach) and the coach for that kid from Texas should save all of the negative publicity about this and send it to every OSU, UCLA and Texas recruit next year, just befor NSD with the comment "These are the peiple you are considering.".

Harbaugh can't do it without being accuse of negative recruiting, but the HS Coaches aren't recruiting and don't have a stake so it can't come back on UM.  Too late to help their kid's out but punishing the schools that used the tactic on their kid.

And Wilcher should make sure every Detroit and SE Michigan coach remembers this next year.

Well it's called negative recruiting for a reason. Whether it's the truth or not, instead of boosting and selling your program to the kid, you instead belittle and trash another program. It isn't "negative" to tell the recruit the truth about a program, but that's just the term coined for that type or recruiting.

I don't anyone would have a problem with Harbaugh saying "hey, remember last year when OSU and UCLA had coaches leave 24 hours after recruits signed with them?  Yeah, that won't happen here."  Just because schools have bad policies that screw kids doesn't mean you can't point them out because it would "hurt" them in recruiting.

Because there have already been three threads on the boards that have gone over 100 posts, with one thread pushing 300 posts, since this story broke Wednesday?

Weber feels lied to, his coach at CT is pissed.  Still, Weber is not coming to Michigan!

This is why I am not super upset about not getting Weber.  Cass Tech is full of 4 and 5 star players but how many of them have been actually panning out?  I do think Jourdan Lewis has the potential to be a great player, but he is only 1 out of the 10 or so we have taken in the past 5-6 years.

Ohio State has won the last 3 recruiting battles at Cass Tech against us - Weber, Alabi, and Webb.

It doesn't matter if Weber will be a break out player or not.  Just because some of the past Cass Tech stars haven't panned out, doesn't mean future ones won't.

What matters is sleazey recruiting tactics like oversigning and lying to kids to get them to commit.

'crisis', and I don't think that's being overly dramatic; this is about doing things the right way and paying the consequences if you do not. We all know how the SEC conducts business, we don't want that spreading to the Big Ten, or any other conference either. It screws with recruits, it's underhanded, and also punishes the teams who try to do things the right way. I can see a future where winning is so valued that coaches will not be hired for how they bring up young men in their charges but how they use them to win and to be able to discard those that aren't going to be useful. Well, more than it already is like that.

Who cares if the school hasn't produced breakout stars recently?  It's a local school Michigan should be protecting from poaching, especially by a local rival.  Ohio fans are equally protective of their top HSes down there.

Yeah, Weber isn't coming to Michigan. But, this is significant because Ohio State is trying to build a pipeline to Cass Tech and now they seemed to have screwed themselves, benefiting Michigan (and other schools) in the future for Cass Tech recruits.

In other words, this isn't all about Weber.

The kid is "damaged goods" to Michigan. I say that because of his parting shot to the Michigan coaches on NSD and then his mom slamming the Michigan fanbase on FB Friday night. It will never happen. Weber & Co burned those bridges.

We have a GREAT running back in Higdon who will be here for at least 4 years. Why would we want Weber who basically said he is leaving after his junior year for the NFL when he hasn't even played a down of college football? No thanks.

College coaches cannot afford to have such thin skins. There is plenty of opportunity to smooth over any misunderstandings. Wilcher would be a part of those discussions and Harbaugh and his staff will be dealing with him regularly.

Weber's mom slamming the fanbase is completely irrelevant as far as Michigan is concerned.

Turning down every player whose ambition is to leave early for the NFL or the NBA is beyond stupid. If you don't want those kind of players, you're in the wrong line of work.

How am I wrong about burning bridges?

He doesn't embrace competition---made that known to Harbaugh in a BIG WAY. Why would we want a kid and his family who obviously doesn't want to be here? How is mom's behavior irrelevent? You think after her saying what she said, they are in the mindset of being, "Okay, let's go to Michigan" ? You don't think that has ANY bearing on what her son thinks or the conversations they've had? How would that be for team morale if we managed to get him?  LOL, okay.

No one said he was turned down because he wants to go to the NFL so not sure WHAT you are reading.  We all know that most players want to go the NFL. The kid thinks he's that good to where he'll start immediately, have an immediate impact, and no possibility of injuries to leave in 3 years  and be 100% ready for the NFL without playing 1 down of CFB. He wanted to go to a team with easy competition for his position. Not a Harbaugh work ethic. Add that with the current attitude/mindset he displayed about Michigan, again, WHY would we want him? He hasn't done much to make Michigan his back up plan because Michigan is NOT his back up plan. Hence....burning bridges.

Also, our needs at RB are fullfilled for right now untl the next recruiting cycle. Again, no need of him.

I don't get why there are some people out there that are so hell bent over Weber going to Michigan. He's good but not as good as a lot of people make him out to be.

Not sure I understand that logic.

Also, if you're going to be upset about Facebook and Twitter comments, you might as well block those sites.  Reasonable people go about their business while the minority of people go to those mediums to let their asinine opinions fly.  Each fan base has them.  And if she doesn't think OSU has them, let Weber ask to be released from his NLI.
