Why Your MGoPost Laughing at a Derelict Ohio Fan is Dumb

Submitted by MGoShoe on

Looks like Michigan has its own mega-embarassing fan.

On the last day of April, after a nationwide search that lasted almost two years, law enforcement officials from Ohio finally nabbed “Bobby Thompson,” one of America’s most-wanted fugitives, a man suspected of stealing millions from the U.S. Navy Veterans Association, a charity whose stated mission was to help veterans and members of the U.S. armed forces. But even now that he’s behind bars, awaiting trial on a host of charges, no one knows who Bobby Thompson really is.

Late on the night of April 30, Thompson was arrested outside his residence on 72nd St. NE in Portland[, OR]. According to the U.S. Marshals, Thompson was in possession of several false American and Canadian IDs at the time. (It also should be noted that he was busted by Ohio authorities while wearing a University of Michigan sweatshirt.)

[To the Mod who changed the ttile: The fugitive was not apprehended in Ohio.]

But I might add that people hiding from the law usually wear the opposite of what those who know them would think they would be wearing.

"Bobby Thompson" was a big story here, becuase he was based in the Tampa Bay area.  He has still managed to hide his true identity, but I am willing to bet that he isn't from Michigan, and probably thinks a winged helmet is something you buy from your local Harley Davidson dealer.

UofM fan criminal: Crimes in the millions, extremely good at evasion, smart enough to completely concela his identity.

OSU fan criminal: Free candy van. Makes very famous freinds on twitter after being banned from it.

If you're gonna break the law, at least do it with STYLE!

I am not condoning any crime by any means, but when a Michigan fan/alumnus is on the news because of a crime they committed, in many cases it's because their crime was on an insanely large scale and the criminal genius involved has put them on or near the most wanted list.  When OSU fans/alumni are on the news for committing a crime, it normally is because of the humor caused by the sheer stupidity displayed while perpetrating said crime.  So clearly, even Wolverine criminals are smarter than buckeye criminals.

That being said,  if there must be criminals at all,  I'd almost rather have the ones associated with school I'm supporting be known for being stupid, harmless small time crooks than the kind of ones we are known for...

It was funny, but true as well. The part where I disagree is what type of crime I would rather have people committing. Just looking at the two instances people are focusing on in this thread as far as Ohio criminals go you have a pedophileand a woman who almost certainly got away with murder, and even if she didn't, was gulty of some of the most extreme neglect and abuse of a child I have seen before.

The crime you are saying most UM alums pull off (or get caught for) are more likely to involve money and the like, which if you ask me is far more tolerable in my mind (  not that either are good). To me, money is something you can get back or recoup, but someone's life or a child's state after abuse is something that can never be returned. Give me the high tech finance crimes anyday over murder and child abuse. That's just me though.

Also, this isn't to say that UM doesn't have their bad apples as well (in terms of murderers etc), just that others do as well.

What you're saying is that fastening a bar stool to a lawn mower as a sort of make-shift recreational vehicle --and then driving it, drunk, into a ditch-- is somewhat less than "genius"? Because, if that is what you are indeed purporting, I am not entirely sure I agree.

Michigan's most famous Criminals:

Leopold and Loeb. The Uni-Bomber.

Ohio State's most famous criminals:

Uhh... Casey Anthony? (Not an alumna as far as I can tell...) Maurice Clarett? Jeffry Dahmer? None of those actually recieved a degree from the institution....Dr. Michal Swango?

Not sure how proud I am of this, but at least when a UM alumnus commits a crime, they REALLY commit a crime-- and actually graduated!

I think it was staged by a law enforcement officer that thought this would be a good time to have a laugh.  No way that was happenstance.  The piece of sh-t criminal may have been wearing a Michigan shirt when he got busted (which, like, whatever) but no way did the cop just happen to be wearing an Ohio shirt.  No way.

The Michigan sweatshirt can be easily photoshopped out of these pictures to, say, a replica early 90's Kirk Herbstreit jersey.   No big deal.   Revisionist history at its finest.

Isn't this simply our version of the Walmart Wolverine bullshit? I never cared for it. Seems illogical, and this inevitable "greater than/less than" conversation that sprouts up to decide which is worse is always nigh the most arbitrary thing to ever exist.

an Ohio sweatshirt.  How do we know they did not plant the Michigan jersey on the fugitive?  Yeah, that's the ticket...

gets their yearly face caving from USC we can't laugh at them because UM has had it's face caved by USC before, too? I don't agree. Not in the least.

He was in deep cover. You'll notice the Ohio authorities weren't fooled, they can always recognize one of their own.

In general though, there are plenty of them that snuck across the border, so yeah.

What a loser stealing from a charity for Navy veterans. With his lack of respect for the Navy, a Norte Dame sweatshirt would seem more appropriate since they're starting their season against the Midshipmen. And "Bobby" is a trip for combing his hair and trying to fix up a bit for his mug shot.

The thing about OSU fans is that you don't have to ask M fans to get negative reviews. Their reputation spans the nation. As much as I chuckle at MSU fans, they don't hold a candle to the mouth breathing, car keying, knuckle dragging trash that makes up too much of the Ohio fanbase.

Mary Sue speaking from Annapolis, said the actions of the derelict were a mistake.

Really Mary Sue? I've got a list of very cleverly nuanced questions for Mary Sue to find out precisely what specific derelict actions of the Derelict were derelict.
