Why wont "Michigan Men" say they are from Michigan?
I have seen a number of recent Michigan football players on TV today, introducing themselves and announcing their school as part of NBC lineup reviews.
While former Buckeyes proudly say they are from "THE Ohio State University", today we had Jonathan Goodwin and David Harris recite the names of their high schools, not U of M. Even Braylon called it "(unintelligble)'s University of Michigan.
what is going on? Are we really seeing Michigan Men acting like dipshits?

Can they show some love to there hometown? Many people knows D. Harris went to Michigan, but how many people know he went to Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills Indians!(now the Bengals)

The Michigan Man moniker has been exhausted and it's elitist in nature. Society and the factions that exist within it make terms like "Michigan Man" absolutely disgusting, in my eyes. It's no different than those who think Amurica is better than the rest of the world because that's the way God intended it.

because its not 'cool' to be from michigan right now. we're sanctioned, bad at football, without a head coach, etc. when we're good again you'll start seeing everyone say theyre from 'THE university of michigan'

Charles Woodson said "Fremont Ross High School" years ago, when Carr was still HC. Braylon did his "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan" last year. Maybe they just want attention.

But I think a large part of naming your high school is simply to bring recognition to it as a place to recruit athletes from, and out of pride for the high school that started everything.
Woodson naming Fremont Ross is not surprising. The guy has is a legend there (along with Lytle). On top of that he's also a big time contributor to the school. He put forth a large chunk of change when the football stadium was being remodeled and also I believe he paid the pay-to-play fees of all the sports teams one year.

watching Braylon out-grab numerous Spartans in the 3OT thriller, he is now and always will be an idiot. Immature behavior, growing rap sheet, ridiculous quotes, the list goes on and on. Guy's a goof.

when Tom Brady gets to tell the nation his school! Whatever he says we are guaranteed a 200 reply thread.

Brady will say what he always says. "Tom Brady. Michigan."

Vintage Braylon leap right there to set up the game-winning FG attempt.

These athletes cannot be bothered to mention their alma mater, but they get a free pass. Then you have a top ten coach like Les Miles who may be leaving a championship caliber team to clean up the hot mess that RR and BM have made, solely out of love for the University. And he gets railed on.
Makes perfect sense to me.

Why does this come up whenever someone doesn't excatly say "University of Michigan". They love the school, relax they might love other stuff in their lives.

This is very OT, so please forgive me, but my father played for GR Ottawa Hills HS in the1930s.
Dunno if it's even the same building now, but someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, and since he died a long time ago, I just got all nostalgic and felt compelled to remember what a great guy he was.
Big Michigan fan, took me to UM games when I was just a little guy. Proud as hell when I was accepted to UM.
Fathers and sons, you know...
OK back to your regularly scheduled schadenfreude
