Why we went for 2

Despite being down by 19 points heading into the locker room at halftime, a swarm of Rutgers players decided to use it as a reason to talk smack to Wolverines' players heading into the tunnel and it fired up not only the players, but head coach Jim Harbaugh as well.

"Coach was kind of mad because those guys were excited being down 19 at half and they were celebrating," cornerback Jourdan Lewis said. "He wanted to put points up on the board and make sure we established our dominance over them. They were celebrating and coach was pretty mad about that. I can't really repeat what he said at halftime (laughs), but it was a lot. He wanted to bring that fire back in the second half and finish them off."

Rutgers got the benefit of some sketchy calls in the first half, including a missed block in the back on the return that set up their field goal before half time. There are no excuses for a special teams let down, such as on the kick-off return, but Michigan dominated them, and the game was not as close as the half-time score implied.

This is a breath of fresh air. Mike Dantonio and Urban Meijer should check themselves into the hospital now for health issues and save themselves the embarrassment over the next Decade.

Normally I'm not all for running up the score, but when an opponent is talking shit, especially an inferior opponent who doesn't realize he's already down by 19 points, it's time you make an example of them.

I'm sure it was not the entire Rutgers team talking shit, but those guys who were running their mouths got exactly what they deserved. A firm ass kicking and a reminder that they're Rutgers, and we're Michigan. I hope they enjoyed beating us when we were down last year, because if this season's progression is any indication, it will be a LONG time before they even come close to beating us again.
