Those healing hands...
Why Tim Tebow makes me believe Michigan will beat Iowa
you did not just compare him to tebow...
I hope you're right. However, that Florida defense had a lot of NFL talent in key positions.
7-8 NFL draft picks on that defense if they left early?
Except Florida's defense was good.
But what the hell, I'm in.
Pass the cup, I'll have some of that.
You could only keep Roh for three years in the draft if it were a keeper league.
I agree though, Tebow had an unbelievable defense at his back (strike 1), with a talented D-coordinator (strike 2), and was a junior that year with much more big game experience (strike 3).
have the #1 D in the land but their opponents combined record is a whopping 8-16.
I'm not saying Iowa's bad, not at all, but embarassing Penn State doesn't seem like it's all that hard to do this year.
Penn State probably has the absolute worst offense in the Big 10.
+1 to the Ferris avatar from a Ferris grad.
I'm pretty sure Iowa had a highly rated D and hadn't given up a rushing TD going into the game last year either (a high scoring game we lost by less than a FG)... In Iowa... And who hasn't embarrassed PSU to some degree or another this year?
I'm sure if we get the win this weekend Iowa will be "overrated and hasn't beaten anybody but a shitty PSU team" though... I'll take it.
Iowa will play two safeties high like last year and as long as Denard doesn't make the same mistakes we will score enough to win. The only question is if we'll stop enough to win.
I believe we will not lose another game beside THE KNOWLEDGE said so.
your prediction of 38-28 would be reasonable. He doesn't, so I don't see any meaningful parallels at all. One short locker room speech isn't going to make up for the fact our LBs are horrible more often than not, our secondary is green as hell, our return and kicking game are mediocre at best and frequently lousy, and we don't seem to have any difference-makers at RB to help take some of the heat off of Denard. Throw in the fact that Molk and Martin suffered ankle sprains against MSU, and a victory by one point, let alone 10, looks to me like a very unlikely event. Maybe the team and coaching staff can summon something new that hasn't been in evidence in the 2+ years of conference play up till now, but now we're in the territory of hope and faith.
...58-28 would be reasonable.
Night game in Iowa lost by two. This year our O is much better, the game is at home, and our D is probably a little worse.
that you and beavis' butthead comments arent what the guys are hearing in the locker room. you always have to have hope and faith no mater how good or bad your team is. they play the game because anything can happen! M fans hopefully will choose to think that good things will happen for the win! GO BLUE beat iowa!
There is only one speech that can inspire victory and that is when Jake Taylor stands up and says " I guess there is only one thing left to do then. Win the whole fuckin' thing." No go and get me Vaughn.
I thought the only thing that could inspire victory was sacrificing a whole chicken...
when he was at Mississippi State. Not sure what the effect on the team was, though.
Tebow makes me ill.
Yes, but he also has the power to cure you of that ill.
We are 5-1 right? I didn't imagine that did I? We lost to an undefeated team that dominated Wisconsin (-3 in turnovers and they still won by ten) a week earlier. We have the same record as Alabama (and gave up fewer points last week despite playing a better team).
We don't have a perfect team by a longshot but the freakout is a little unwarranted at this point.
Who's freaking out? I thought we'd go 6-6 before the season started, and that included a loss to Iowa. It's the people who were convinced we'd go 9-3 that are getting a bit nervous.
Does lead one to believe that 5-1 in the 2nd half isn't very likely. It's the differences between 2-4, 3-3, or 4-2 that will make a lot of difference between panic and "hey, maybe comparing us to Alabama isn't ridiculous after all".
8-4 and thats a huge improvement. but we definitely need to beat iowa, wisc, or osu to really show we are closer to competing. i had michigan down for a loss vs msu and iowa and starting the season 5-2 before handing it to penn state. i was just hoping penn state wouldnt get as exposed as they have been before we played them. i told everyone that penn state wouldnt win 6 this year and that purdue was a fraud. illinois poses some concern but we will see after this week. overall thus far we need to take it a game at a time. though i have a gut feeling we come out firing on all cylinders vs the hawkeyes. we all know stanzi will throw it right at our corners and linebackers a few times. my concern is if he does will we at least catch them.
I don't buy the argument that we have to beat Iowa, Wisconsin or OSU to prove anything to anyone. Besides, beating one of them (assuming your 8-4) predictions, means we lose to a team most likely worse than those three.
About having to lose to a worse team to make 8-4, what it would prove is that we're not just gathering wins against bad teams, and be the first good team we've beaten since...Wisconsin, in '08. It's been awhile.
but i'd say a 10-2 record would "salvage" the season if we indeed "knock back" the upper limit of those 3-5 wins he's looking for.
how would it salvage the season? 10-2 isnt going to happen and if it did it would be better than anyone ever expected for this year, it wouldnt be salvaging anything it would be a miracle
I would pick the orange one on the right. It's saying, "I still want to be a part of the group, but I want to be different enough so as not to appear like the group defines me."
/end of long day
When I heard that Denard spoke up in the locker room, I too thought of Tebow's "You will not see a player in college football work harder...." speech because Denard took blame for the loss and felt that the result of the game was unacceptable. Tebow and Denard while both athletic quarterbacks are not the same players. Tebow had more experience, a national title under his belt, etc. Howeva, Denard is not nearly as up front with himself as Tebow is, so for a soft-spoken quarterback in his first year of starting to speak up after the first loss of the season is a great thing to hear about. While not the same situation, I do see Michigan coming out with fire this weekend. I mean who couldn't rally behind Denard? I, for one, believe that the game against MSU was a fluke, Denard cares too much about this team and is too competitive to play like that again, he, after the game, admitted to being over excited, etc. Denard will let the game come to him this Saturday, and when that happens, we'll be feeling much better.
What makes me believe we can beat Iowa is that James Madison beat Va Tech, South Carolina beat Alabama, and Appy State beat us.
it all up!!!!!!
I'm not buying it.
Wow.....there is no way he is celibate.
Tebow cannot throw and she has a crooked nose.
She has a nose?
Perhaps he is and just has never made it past those!
She's a British model and not Tebow's GF.
She's British, too? Damn you Mom and Dad, why didn't you force me to analyze zone coverage schemes when I was an infant? Stupid Dr. Seuss.
I laughed when I read your comment than laughed harder after I saw your avatar.
Never anything wrong with that
Those are some fun bags, man. Not many things in this world better than a great pair...
Tebow was a phony and all caught up in himself. The whole thing was to bring attention to himself and to feed the image that had been created. In contrast Denard spoke to his team, not the media.
Pretty good point. As far as I know, Denard hasn't told the media that he gave a locker room speech. All he said in his postgame press conference was that he made some bad reads and they needed to get ready as a team for Iowa. It seems that his speech was meant for the sole purpose of keeping the team sharp and focused after a tough loss. He's shown all the signs of a true leader this season - it's really shocking if you think about where he stood just 6 weeks ago...
I think he was being very genuine, letting the Gator fans know that he understoof their frustration & wouldn't allow his team to perform like that again. Seems like it worked pretty well too, seeing as how they didn't lose again after that.
forward will tell if Tebow is a phony on the field! for you or anyone to question the man's character is assanine! it is always easier to squash someone else's character (especially when you dont understand why they do or say what they do) then to look your own flaws in the face! man up and take the plank out of your own eye! type something intelligent about his game but leave his character alone! The post was bringing up a similarity to this weeks and subsiquent weeks to come Denards leadership compared to the result (fairly or not fairly put on Tebow's shoulders) of the rest of that gators team season. personal bias calls him a phony, those that have played with and coached him in college and the pros, would and have said different! GO BLUE beat iowa!
If so, I propose the following:
If you don't know how to spell the word, you can't use it (even if you know what it means).
Anything can happen, them hawkeyes are not above having their ass handed to them.
That black and piss yellow team is not as good as their ranking and Michigan is not as bad as theirs.
Bring it , these Michigan men ain't scared of those m#%her f#$kers.
Tebow said they will part like the Red Sea...nuff for me.
The Knowledge said so...
yet. I had predicted 6-6, and now see a real chance for 7-5 or better. We were MSU's match, or close to it. If Purdue and Penn State weren't away games, we'd all be assuming wins over those two were very likely. We have a chance to give most anyone a game.
If it's ONLY about the wins, there just isn't that much fun in it, is there?
Call me optimistic, but that MSU game didn't change my mind about the fact that I am still assuming that wins over Penn State and Purdue are very likely, even though they're away games. Certainly not locks, but likely. I think the loss to moo-u was a bit of an abberation, while PSU has struggled mightily all year and has lost some key components like Sukay, and apparently Purdue has roused a very angry, all-boilermaker-hating-god.
Then it's a lot of fun.
What is this speech you speak of? Tim Tebow? Who's that?
You will never see any player in the entire country who will play harder than Denard will play the rest of the season. And you will not see someone push the rest of the team as hard as Denard will push everybody for the rest of the season, and you will never see a team play harder than Michigan will the rest of the season.
Iowa will recieve the full blast of Dilithium from a pissed off Denard. I can't wait to see it happen. We will smash their defensive averages and put up the 1st three rushing TD's on their team in the first half. I have no evidence, or logical reasoning. I just know this, man.
Michigan will win if our defense is passible and our offense is good, eliminating the mistakes that happened during the MSU game. I have very little faith in the power of locker room speeches.
Not usually one for rah rah speeches and I tend to think that the press makes a huge deal over things like post game speeches...but I like where your head is... To me it means that Denard is a competitor and is ready to start taking on the leadership role...this is a great thing
If somehow, through the mysteries of the universe, our discussion of Tim Tebow causes Michigan to win Saturday, then by golly, 15 minutes "with" Tim Tebow will have indeed made my life better.
Hey, remember when we demolished Tebow's Gators at that Capital One Bowl?
Most of what everyone saying is right. I live in central FL and what most people don't see if that team was loaded. Most people only look at Tebow, but most QBs could have won at least 10 games with that team. Also, as for his girlfriend, those are all rumors. Most non UF fans around here think (as i do) that Timmy is gay........not that there is anything wrong with that. And its not just because they aren't fans.
