Why Saturday (WMU) Is A "Must-Win" Game
Now before the LITERAL Police blow an aneurysm, I obviously am not using the term literally. (In fact, if must-win is only used when it is mathematically correct, it becomes rather: "Well, Duh!?")
I do not mean we must win or RR will be fired.
I do not mean we must win or the season is doomed.
I do mean it would be really, really, really good to win this one because (in reverse order):
4) A win will make the decibel level of THAT story decrease to almost inaudible levels.
3) This game is included in the win column of everyone's prediction for the season. Winning makes the journey easier instead of harder.
2) This is a young team that has worked very hard and sacrificed. It is imperative they see some tangible results.
1) I am tired of being depressed and pretending to all my non-Michigan friends that last year was no big deal (otherwise I would be telling them to "Shut the F*ck Up!" which, I have found, is not too good for keeping those friends).

So we're playing to win?
I want to see a "must-tie game." I think that would be more exciting. With each score you automatically begin rooting for the other team. It would really keep you on your toes.

Wait, so you don't see any difference between this game and any other game? I sure do.
After we lost to App. St., I did not think it was even a big deal. With that M team, I figured we could still even win the MNC by winning out. So, ho hum.
I believe this one is far more important.

The difference in energy/stress level at the Notre Dame game if we are 1-0 compared to 0-1 would be unreal. (And obviously unmeasurable for those referenced Literal Police)
I think the over-all feeling of "impending doom" in The Big House on 9-12 if we lose to WMU would be even worse than in 2007 when we played that game 0-2.
This game sets the tone of a season (and shedding the horrid past) more than I can remember in my 25 years as a fan.

Even without the media circus, losing to a MAC team two years in a row is not good for any BCS team.

because I think that's where we are at,as a program. I know there are still holes to be filled, more personnel needed, particularly for depth, but Coach needs to show the football world his second year magic isn't a coincidence that can't be replicated here. If we have a solid year, the future is extremely bright; if not, perhaps toppling OSU may take longer than anticipated.
