Why the pessimism on Fisher?
I've read a few people say that Fisher isnt likely to sign with us, and a few have implied he will go to MSU. I was recently reading their board and their insiders think he's still likely to end up here. Personally I have no idea, but I think its critical we retain him. And if we somehow miss out, another tackle in this class is a must. I just cant figure out why he'd be wavering so much. He's been a UM fan his whole life (I know..Zettel), and we have a coach that is creating a lot of buzz and excitement. I cant speak to what his decision will come down to, but I just wondered why people seemed so down on our chances.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:19 PM ^
Because he decommitted.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
....and Mr. OP, Have you heard the term, "Lifelong MI fan?"
If I hear it one more time, I'll blow my metaphorical brains out all over Al Gore's Internets...
January 20th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
If he doesn't end up staying with us, he will likely go out of state according to Sam Webb.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:04 PM ^
I dunno why anyone negged you, you're exactly right. With offers from Florida and Oregon, would you really pick MSU over those programs if you weren't going to go blue?
January 20th, 2011 at 7:14 PM ^
I dunno why anyone negged you, you're exactly right about aaamich being exactly right. If he doesn't go here, he'll go somewhere else.
Wait for it.....
January 20th, 2011 at 7:19 PM ^
i negged just to keep this going.
full permission to neg me in return
January 20th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
nah, it made me laugh!
January 20th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
I'm negging all of us just to have something to do other than homework - starting with my own post.
January 20th, 2011 at 10:31 PM ^
So I was negbanging this girl last night....wait what?
January 20th, 2011 at 6:21 PM ^
If you want to know how this situation is playing out, pay attention to Flavin. If he gets an offer Fisher is likely gone.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:22 PM ^
maybe because he has oregon and florida offers and has no relationship with the new coaches
January 20th, 2011 at 6:25 PM ^
If he does have offers from Oregon and Florida, I believe they would be recent, he may not have a great relationship with them either.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:29 PM ^
Sam Webb said on Michigan Insider this morning that he doesn't have a relationship with the coaches at those schools. That's why it doesn't make sense for the coaching change here to have a great effect on him like it has. Sam also said he has absolutely no reservations about leaving the state...so at least if he doesn't choose us he probably won't be going sparty.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
I don't think he ends up at MSU. It is very rare for a lifelong UM fan to end up at MSU. It is one thing to not go to UM, but another to commit to MSU.
Reminds me of Zettel recruitment.
I would put odds at:
Oregon 30/Florida 30/Mich 25/MSU 15
January 21st, 2011 at 3:14 PM ^
Mike Sadler.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:00 PM ^
last I checked UF had a new coach and staff too....
January 20th, 2011 at 6:22 PM ^
Probably a bit disillusioned is all--but Hoke and Co will have IIRC the last "in home" or something like that, and I think in the end UM will keep him happy and Blue. JMO.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
I thought that they had already visited him?
January 20th, 2011 at 7:04 PM ^
Other coaches can come later is how I believe it works.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
With the follow up visit, Hoke will deliver...
January 20th, 2011 at 6:25 PM ^
The whole childhood favorite thing is overblown espcially during a coaching change. For fans it would be an easy choice, but for recruits it is not so. Some of these recruits really value the relationship they have with the coaching staff.
For every Kellen Jones, there will always be an Anthony Zettle.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:28 PM ^
I think childhood fandom still holds up in most cases. After seeing our defense this year, I don't blame Zettel for not wanting to jump on board. He made the safe choice in PSU, and it will likely serve him well.
I still think Mattison should try to visit him though.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
Zettel also got a two hour conversation about life with Jo Pa. That's probably pretty heady stuff for an 18 year old.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:56 PM ^
A two hour conversation with JoePa is like playing the original Oregon Trail; it's repetitive, incomprehensible at times, and if you make it two hours without succumbing to Cholera, it counts as a victory.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
This is pretty fucking good stuff. Well done, sir.
Who can forget Joe Pa sprinting across the field into the locker room, shrunken khakis flapping, as he addressed his own bout of dysentery (or cholera.)
January 20th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^
I read that his HS coach was pushing him away from UM because of that god awful scheme. Who the fuk would want to get triple teamed on every play as a NT/DE in the 3-3-5??
I'm sure Anthony did learn a lot in his 2 hours with JoePa...Most notably how to change a diaper and what old balls look like. JoePa is fucking delusional at this stage, I can't imagine him relating to 18 yrs olds at all.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:59 PM ^
An 84 yo coach won't see this class graduate. Well, he may but won't be the coach anymore. Things are not all lollipops and rainbows in State College right now. They are starting to think that Golden slipped away.
If he (Golden) starts winning I think you're gonna see some of the same ugliness that you saw in Michigan these last three years with Loyalists vs Realists. The only thing that would have speeded the process is if Pitt would have hired Bradley.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
The biggest problem with following recruiting is that fans assume kids think like fans. Sometimes they do, but often other factors decide where they go to college.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:36 PM ^
Some of these kids are looking at the campus, friends, family needs, weather, travel to get back home and what they want or need for an education. There is a shit load to think about and consider when making this decision.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:53 PM ^
All he cared about were hotter, infinitely dumber chicks. There are worse reasons to choose a school.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
they are recruiting him hard per the local gossip in TC town. I am anxiously watching out for the Domino's or M-jet to arrive!
January 20th, 2011 at 6:34 PM ^
I think Fisher will end up back with UM, not sure what anyone else's opinion on him. When he decommitted it seemed more like he just wanted to be honest with where he was in the process. Maybe its just me but I expect him back in the fold with the coaching staff getting finalized
January 20th, 2011 at 7:41 PM ^
Can you give us some of your DEs? Preferably Ishaq or Tuitt. I was under the impression that Springmann was an OL. That is some crazy ginger power right there.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:54 PM ^
you can say that again
and no you cant haz any DEs
January 20th, 2011 at 10:36 PM ^
But is this really a picture of a human being?
January 21st, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
he's human now, have to see what he becomes in a few months, my money is on executioner
January 20th, 2011 at 11:35 PM ^
This frightens me.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:37 PM ^
Needless to say he is a huge priority in this class and I really hope he's blue in the end.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
Once he gets off that plane and feels that warm southern wind hit is face - that's it, game over. He'll come to his senses and "What on earth was I even thinking"? Then when the first hurricane finds land, he'll be asking the same question...
January 20th, 2011 at 6:56 PM ^
Well, it was 79 degrees today where I am. This is what worries me about Fish. What will worry him is 2 a days in 95 degree, 80% hunidity and no breeze in Gainesville. That condition lasts for at leat the first 6-7 games of the year.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:09 PM ^
But that's why they created gatoraide
January 20th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
You don't understand how hot and humid it is down here until you live through it. 2-a-days are absolutely brutal....and I am just standing around blowing a whistle. Wicking gear is the greatest invention ever!
January 20th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
To take some visits? Wouldn't be the first time a recruit leaning heavily though it would be cool to travel the country and have a good time for free..
January 20th, 2011 at 9:13 PM ^
i mean currently i don't see any clear winner but knowing him personally, i dont think its going to MSU. I do know that an Oregon coach has already flown to TC to visit Jake personally. I really hope Hoke or atleast our D-Line coach goes to Traverse City and talks to Jake. Id imagine he would want Michigan to show some commitment on their side. I know Hoke has called Jake and that has gone pretty well but a personal visit might be a great idea
January 20th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
..but if Hoke is flying all around the country (bc it sure seems like hes everywhere) talking to other kids, recruiting other kids, offering other kids...then maybe is he just not that high on fisher? i dont know, just asking...
from waht i know, i want fisher in the class like everyone else does, but if hes not a top priority are we missing something with him?
just a thought to ponder...
January 20th, 2011 at 10:32 PM ^
Webb seems to think that if he doesn't go to Michigan he would likely go out of state.I think in the end he will be blue!!!
