Why the pessimism on Fisher?

Submitted by cypress on

I've read a few people say that Fisher isnt likely to sign with us, and a few have implied he will go to MSU. I was recently reading their board and their insiders think he's still likely to end up here. Personally I have no idea, but I think its critical we retain him. And if we somehow miss out, another tackle in this class is a must. I just cant figure out why he'd be wavering so much. He's been a UM fan his whole life (I know..Zettel), and we have a coach that is creating a lot of buzz and excitement. I cant speak to what his decision will come down to, but I just wondered why people seemed so down on our chances.

Sam Webb said on Michigan Insider this morning that he doesn't have a relationship with the coaches at those schools. That's why it doesn't make sense for the coaching change here to have a great effect on him like it has. Sam also said he has absolutely no reservations about leaving the state...so at least if he doesn't choose us he probably won't be going sparty.

I don't think he ends up at MSU.  It is very rare for a lifelong UM fan to end up at MSU.  It is one thing to not go to UM, but another to commit to MSU.

Reminds me of Zettel recruitment.

I would put odds at:

Oregon 30/Florida 30/Mich 25/MSU 15

Probably a bit disillusioned is all--but Hoke and Co will have IIRC the last "in home" or something like that, and I think in the end UM will keep him happy and Blue. JMO.

The whole childhood favorite thing is overblown espcially during a coaching change.  For fans it would be an easy choice, but for recruits it is not so.  Some of these recruits really value the relationship they have with the coaching staff.

For every Kellen Jones, there will always be an Anthony Zettle.

I think childhood fandom still holds up in most cases. After seeing our defense this year, I don't blame Zettel for not wanting to jump on board. He made the safe choice in PSU, and it will likely serve him well.

I still think Mattison should try to visit him though.

I read that his HS coach was pushing him away from UM because of that god awful scheme. Who the fuk would want to get triple teamed on every play as a NT/DE in the 3-3-5??

I'm sure Anthony did learn a lot in his 2 hours with JoePa...Most notably how to change a diaper and what old balls look like. JoePa is fucking delusional at this stage, I can't imagine him relating to 18 yrs olds at all.

An 84 yo coach won't see this class graduate.  Well, he may but won't be the coach anymore.  Things are not all lollipops and rainbows in State College right now.  They are starting to think that Golden slipped away.

If he (Golden) starts winning I think you're gonna see some of the same ugliness that you saw in Michigan these last three years with Loyalists vs Realists.  The only thing that would have speeded the process is if Pitt would have hired Bradley.

I think Fisher will end up back with UM, not sure what anyone else's opinion on him.  When he decommitted it seemed more like he just wanted to be honest with where he was in the process.  Maybe its just me but I expect him back in the fold with the coaching staff getting finalized

Once he gets off that plane and feels that warm southern wind hit is face - that's it, game over.  He'll come to his senses and "What on earth was I even thinking"?  Then when the first hurricane finds land, he'll be asking the same question...

To take some visits? Wouldn't be the first time a recruit leaning heavily though it would be cool to travel the country and have a good time for free..

i mean currently i don't see any clear winner but knowing him personally, i dont think its going to MSU. I do know that an Oregon coach has already flown to TC to visit Jake personally. I really hope Hoke or atleast our D-Line coach goes to Traverse City and talks to Jake. Id imagine he would want Michigan to show some commitment on their side. I know Hoke has called Jake and that has gone pretty well but a personal visit might be a great idea

..but if Hoke is flying all around the country (bc it sure seems like hes everywhere) talking to other kids, recruiting other kids, offering other kids...then maybe is he just not that high on fisher? i dont know, just asking...

from waht i know, i want fisher in the class like everyone else does, but if hes not a top priority are we missing something with him?

just a thought to ponder...
