Why No PA Announcement for Starting Lineups?
I've noticed at all three games this year that starting lineups for both the visitors and home team are projected on the video boards, but there is no announcement over the PA. Does anyone know why? Also, head coaches are not named. I know that Rich Rod is still the coach, but why not say so and give us another chance to cheer?

I'm not sure anyone knows why yet.

Maybe someone will eventually figure it out.

Sorry I missed the earlier post. As you say, no one seems to have an answer. We can rule out technical problems, since it's been that way for 3 weeks now, we can rule out concern that Rich Rod would get booed. I guess they want to do it this way, but I still wonder why.

I actually wasn't even criticizing the double post. Just backing up the response that people actually didn't seem to know yet. Maybe someone has asked by now.

I don't understand everyone's concern about the starting lineups not being announced. I always thought it was kind of boring to hear 22 names read aloud, and half the time it doesn't reflect who actually starts (for example, a third linebacker would be announced but the team on the field would send out a 4-2-5 nickel look on the first series).

Phil Callihan, owner and operater of umgoblue.com, asked the athletic department and they said they simply have run out of time with other pregame festivities being added.

I am pretty sure they don't announce starting lineups for college football. They didn't do it in any of the games I played in. I don't know if has something to do with amatuer status vs. professional or what not but I can't remember them ever announcing a starting lineup. I could be wrong though.

they did up through the end of last year. It used to be they would only introduce either the offense or defense (and the opposite for the away team) but a few years ago they started announcing the full starting lineup. When each member of the visiting team was announced, the audience would yell out "Who cares?". Good times.

I was fortunate enough to go to an Ohio State game my second or third time to the Big House (I was in middle school/high school at the time) and loved it when instead of getting a "Who cares?" John Cooper's announcement was met with a huge cheer from the "Michigan faithful." It caught me completely by surprise and I thought it was just about the greatest insult ever.

And then the occasional letter to the editor of the Ann Arbor News (note for posterity: formerly a 'newspaper' that contained text articles, delivered to your home) about how 'rude' Michigan fans were for shouting 'who cares'.
There was no greater name to have introduced than Tishimanga Biakabutuka, though I liked Ninef Aghakhan. A-GA-KHAAAAAAN!

I would get particularly excited for Dhani Jones' introduction, because he had crazy hair.

Carl (the P.A. voice of Michigan Stadium and the Band) tells me this was a call made by the athletic department folks to make room for the "pre-game video components." Coach Rod's name was brought up in the discussion, as was "team unity." He also said he misses doing the lineups since it would really get the crowd going for big games.
On the "team unity" point, Coach Rod said today he isn't going to announce which walk-ons get scholarships so the other walk-ons don't get bummed.

So they have time to show the names and faces, but not time for Carl to say their names? I guess I don't quite follow that logic.
I hope there is no ulterior motive, like getting rid of Carl and replacing him with a screaming homer. Anyone who has been to Minnesota or Northwestern knows that would be awful.
