Only 39. Those (glory?) days seem ages ago, like he should be in his 50s by now.

I am his classmate and two years younger.
We're not that old! :P

Dear The Batbread,
why don't you do us all a favor and make a Brian Griese tribute video and then upload it to Youtube.com. Thank you kindly for your time and consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
Darker Blue

Obviously a great year, but Griese was a Field General who would manage the offense, minimize mistakes and take advantage of what the other team had to offer. He was not a highlight reel QB. Most of the spectacular stuff came after he got rid of the ball.

Michigan was down 21-7 at the half after giving up a punt return TD as time expired.
In the 2nd half Griese threw for 2TD's and ran for another, preserving Michigan's only perfect season of the modern era.

where Keith Jackson said that Brian Griese hadn't run so fast since his father chased him around the house with a stick.

...of playaction rollout passes to Jerame Tuman.
In all seriousness, I still get chills when I hear Keith Jackson announce the MVP of the Rose Bowl.

Would the video include the surveillence footage of Griese breaking a window at Scorekeepers?

Because the way that guy came back from that bad decision, worked his way back onto the team as the pooch punter, eventually won the starting job, and finished an undefeated season with an MVP performance in a Rose Bowl victory makes for a pretty inspiring redemptive story.

Not sure if you watched the 95 or 96 seasons, but Griese was not a good QB then. He had a dramatic turnaround under Debord in his senior year but before that he was really, really not good(I mean Gardner bad).
Case in point...remember that game where Timmy B ran for 313 yards against Ohio? You might ask yourself why they didn't win that game by more than 8 points, which they surely would have done if Griese hadn't thrown 3 horrendous INTs to keep Ohio in the game.
I love Griese for winning that national championship but his highlight reel should only include games from 1997 becasue his other seasons as QB were not good enough.

the 1996 Ohio State game, though...I believe that the only reason that they let Bob Griese even announce that game was that Brian was second-string and would likely not see any action.
Watching Bob Griese do the masterful job that he did of announcing Michigan games really was a part of the story, esp. in '97 but it started against OSU in '96.

OSU going into The Game, '95-'97:
'95: 11-0 (#2)
'96: 10-0 (#2)
'97: 10-1 (#4)
Over that span, OSU was 0-3 vs Michigan and 31-1 vs every other team they played (regular season).
One could look at Griese's numbers in those games and minimize his contribution. But after the '97 game he left the field on his teammates' shoulders. I think that says something.

(at least in my lifetime of watching UM football) is Rick Leach ('76, '77, '78)...who DOES have a tribute on youtube, I believe.
Still my favorite all time UM player.

Not many QB's get multiple W's vs OSU.
Now that would be an interesting list...which UM QB's have multiple wins vs OSU? Which ones played the best vs OSU??

went 2-0-1, I believe, against tOSU

the last Michigan drive in the '98 Rose Bowl, in it's entirety. If memory serves, Griese converted at least three 3rd and longs, each of them by a hair, and narrowly avoiding a sack on at least one of them.
That drive resulted in no points but it burned a lot of clock. WSU ended up on their own 1 with almost no time left after a perfectly executed fake-FG-attempt-pooch-punt.
It should also include the Transcontinental Pass vs Wisconsin...
