Why Mack Brown & Colt McCoy Are BSing All Of Us

Submitted by Enjoy Life on

So, both Mack Brown & Colt McCoy would have us believe that the end of the game was not a cluster F#@K. Why? Cause it wouldn't look good for the Heisman resume for Colt to have come within 1 second of costing his team the game.

I went back at looked at the DVR. Texas ran 4 plays in 1:44 (which included a stoppage for a penalty). Colt hiked the ball with 6 sec and then 3 sec on the play clock and then 6 sec on the game clock.

On the second play with 1:14 on the clock, Colt could have thrown the ball away but instead slid down.

If Colt had let the ball go one second later (which he might have if not pressured), game over. What if he had completed the pass? -- probably game over.

This was a monumental F#@k Up and they just got lucky.

is a little more forgivable to me than the horrible KO--kid was just trying to make a play. Hate to pin it all on two penalties, but without them, it's not likely Texas gets in FG range. Doesn't really matter what Brown or McCoy say. They're goats if they lose, but they didn't, and that moment will be a footnote at best a year from now.

Nothing wrong with luck, IMO. Nothing to be embarassed about. It seems like every team needs a little help to go 12-0 or 13-0. Alabama had its own fortune against Tennessee with two blocked FGs, and needed every second of last week's game to beat Auburn. Part of the game.

As I watched the game, I was screaming at the TV. I was sure he made the biggest mistake in college football history. He looked as if he was taking a stroll on the beach and then with some pressure threw the ball out of bounds.

That Texas player (KR) almost touched the ball at the 15 yrd line, and I was screaming at that possible screw up!!

*****Then Colt tells us "I knew there was enough time on the clock". Good luck against Alabama!! Say hello to Cody and McClain for me!

the Heisman after that horrendous performance in his team's biggest game of the year.

I don't think he should have won it anyways, but it will be a joke if he gets it after last night.

Based on their respective performances last night It seems like Bama is got roll the Horns.

One lousy game doesn't keep someone away from the Heisman either, though. Tebow didn't exactly play perfect when he won the Heisman, or Florida wouldn't have had three regular season losses and missed the BCS. Overall, Colt's had a pretty charmed career for the Horns and since about midway through his freshman year, he's been a team leader and been a crucial part of their success.

Even more telling of Colt's accomplishments is the fact that Texas hasn't had an established stable of running backs these past few years, so there's even more weight on him to carry the offense.

That said, holy CRAP is Suh good.

PS - Auburn does the Rammer Jammer as well, but I thought they only used it in the Iron Bowl (both teams).

His one "bad" game was a 82 yard on 17 carry effort at Wake Forest early in the year. His overall stats are impressive and he stepped up in the big games. He carried a team with a bad defense and a RS Freshman QB to its first winning record since 2001. In the last four games of the season against Oregon, USC, ND and Cal, he rushed for 742 yards and 13 TD's.

If an offensive player other than Gerhart gets the award, then the voting is a joke.

When ND used to get lucky at the end of close games, it was called "The Luck of the Irish" and became a major part of their mythology. Now, getting lucky is a negative in the eyes of many.

I'm giving Texas and McCoy a free pass here. Every team has one or two of those games where nothing seems to go right against inferior competition. Champions find a way to pull these games out. Losers don't. Texas might not have played like it on a superficial level, but they are still undefeated and are the champions of the Big 12.

That's good enough for me.

I hated Mack Brown's statement at the end of the game. Where he said that They will be ranked #2 and thats what SHOULD happen. Nice job lobbying Mack. Real classy.

I was at the UT-A&M game in 2004 and then got to hear the post-game press conference on the radio where Mack cried like a little girl that his team deserved to be in the Rose Bowl ahead of Cal (a team with an identical record that had pushed USC to the wire). His belly-aching paid off and I'm still pissed that we didn't somehow manage to block that last second FG against those guys.

I don't know if this rule has been changed (and the NCAA site charges $7.80 for a download of the official rulebook), but unlike basketball, the clock operator used to stop the clock at the signal of the referree, not upon seeing the event itself.

If that rule has not been changed, then the replay should have focused on the official, not the ball landing out of bounds. (It's not the way I think the rules should be written--I like how basketball has always done it--but you referee by the rules in force. There's almost always a delay between the time the play ends and the official raises his hands.

(Another reason why SpartanBob's intervention was BS in 2001.)

There are 2 relevant rules here:

Rule 3-3-2-d-4: the clock is stopped "when a pass is ruled incomplete." I interpret this to mean that it is stopped when a referee blows his whistle and/or makes the incomplete signal.

Rule 12-3-6: "the replay official may correct egregious errors, including those of a game clock, whether or not the play was reviewable."

From this, and from the fact that ABC showed a replay with sound, and you could hear the ref's whistle when the clock still said :01, I think the call was technically correct. It is true that after every single incomplete pass, a second or two will tick off after the pass hits the ground. This is probably irrelevant, since in this case the second that ticked off was the last second, and that makes the matter an "egregious error."

I hate Texas anyways, and with Nebraska family ties, that game hurt in so many ways.

A side note: if Michigan had Nebraska's defense they'd be 10-2 at the worst.

Also: Brent mentioned the Alamo Bowl in 2005 after Nebraska rushed the field. Thanks for that memory.

as long as someone besides McCoy wins the Heisman and Bama wins against Texas, I will be happy

I am tired of hearing from Texas fans about how McCoy is "Superman"
he has looked like crap against good opponents this season(OU and Nebraska) he hasn't really done all that much this year
