Why I'm thrilled we recruit Florida

Now, I don't know how good Upper Arlington (OH) is supposed to be, but if they're on ESPN I can imagine they're very respectable.

On ESPN right now St. Thomas (FL) is just murdering Upper Arlington (OH) 28-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. St. Thomas looks better in every aspect of the game and clearly has better athletes. All be it, they're ranked #1 in the country, however I would still expect Upper Arlington to be able to at least compete in some form.

So is Upper Arlington just an average Ohio team, or is this just an example of why Rich Rod really stepped up our Florida recruiting?

well rr knows that florida

well rr knows that florida has a lot of talent. and also, st. thomas aquinas has a solid 10-12 D1 prospects. that's just absurd for a HS team.

Absurd?

Maybe, but most years you can add Miami Booker T, Miami Northwestern, Jacksonville Bolles, Lakeland, Armwood, and now Tampa Plant to the list of teams that are getting double-digit schollies. They aren't all d-1, but they are getting schollies for a lot of their kids every year.

last year they beat Denard Robinson's team 65-10

while there are many reasons to recruit Florida, this game doesn't necessarily reflect them. it does, however, demonstrate why we should recruit St. Thomas Aquinas.

Denard's Revenge

Denard will have his vengeance when Michigan starts beating teams 65-10. I can't wait until that starts happening.

Upper Arlington, OH

UA is one of the fancier neighborhoods in Columbus. It sits just across the river west of Ohio Stadium. It's where Jack Nicklaus grew up, and where Woody Hayes lived. Traditional old homes built in the 20's. Their HS sports teams were never in the "powerhouse" category when I lived there a couple decades ago. Maybe things have changed. . . .

They (Upper Arlington) won . . .

a state title in 2000 and went 10-2 last year. They are a very good, generally solid Division I high school football program.

That being said, they aren't one of the top 10-15 teams in the state of Ohio so using this game as a referendum of Florida vs. Ohio talent isn't fair.

DR, World-beater??

They just said that the last team to defeat Aquinas was Deerfield Beach in October of 2007. Was Denard the starting QB for that team? If so, thats an impressive thing to have on a resume.

There on TV because of Kirk Herbstreit

He has a yearly Ohio vs. the Country tournament, which is an opportunity for him to show how great Ohio football is. While I think it is very good, I do get a kick out of watching schools from other states whip up on anyone from Columbus.

52-0. Maybe it should be FL vs. the Country tournament.

St. Thomas Aquinas

Are we recruiting anyone from that school I didn't get to watch the game but it sounds like they have a ton of prospects on their team.

Upper Arlington is average at

Upper Arlington is average at best lately ... when Simon Fraser was there they were a constant late playoff even 1 time State Championship team .. If they wanted a true test should have got Cincinnati St Xavie or Cincinnati Colerain.

Ohio is top heavy in Div 1 but the smaller divisions are deep with the powerhouses being Youngstown Mooney and Youngstown Ursline.

Tonight Cleveland Glennville plays Cleveland St Ignatious in what should be a GREAT game ..(last year was game of the year)

Last night i watched Mooney beat Youngstown Boardman but Boardman outplayed them but turned it over 3 times inside the red zone.

I love good HS football .. i usually go down the road to see either Mooney or Warren Harding .. Next week i will be checking our Antonio Kinnard and the Youngstown Liberty Leopards.

Upper Arlington Football

UA football is generally a winning program in central ohio in D1 football. That being said, central ohio football is looked at as a joke by the NE and SW ohio schools because they never do anything in the state playoffs. UA winning the D1 title in 2000 was the first and only time anyone has won the title from central ohio. My alma matter, a past power in central ohio before the school split, would go 9-1 or 10-0 annually playing UA yearly and get our asses handed to us the first real team we played from Cincinnati or Cleveland. UA is probably better than average, but certainly wont be a dominant team in ohio this year.
