Why doesn't MSU's Winston = Blount?

Player A: sucker punches a guy who bounces up right away; goes Artest for a while; seems honestly/bogus apologetic instantly

Player B: sucker punches a fellow student who suffers a fractured skull, hospitalization; demonstrated premediated Artest-like actions; hasn't seemed any kind of apologetic yet - unless jail time = apologetic

What was Blount's crime? He went to the wrong school.

I cannot figure out why this hasn't got picked up on in the media yet... Guess no one cares about 2nd tier schools...

Mostly because it didn't

Mostly because it didn't happen on national TV I think... Sad, but true. If there was video of Winston bludgeoning this guy all over ESPN, I think it'd be a different story.

Because coach Dantonio knows things we don't and runs a clean program and is dominating the state in recruiting.

Transfer?

The first thing I thought of was that Blount will probably transfer to MSU where such, uh, "petty misbehaviors" don't result in suspensions. He would feel right at home there.

He and Winston could talk about "Blount force trauma."

Or a guy in a sleeping bag being eaten alive by a large snake. It all depends on perspective. It's art, take it however you'd like.

Was it worse than Reynolds?

Why was Robert Reynolds of OSU only suspended 1 game for choking Jim Sorgi out of the game a few years ago? I would say that was way worse than throwing a punch at someone.

Punishment in these situations, since it is dictated by the individual schools, has no real standards. I think suspending him for the season is a bit harsh, but probably not by much. I just think other players at other schools have gotten off way easier than they should have. IMO It was a travesty that Reynolds ever played another down of college football.

Family Values

MSU, unlike Oregon, has family values. MSU knows that it is wrong to punish football players for such trivial matters as violent actions, criminal convictions, and jail time. Oregon, like Rodriguez, does not foster family values because they introduce such evils as discipline and punishment for offenses like throwing a punch at an opposing player after losing. If the rest of the NCAA followed MSU and Dantonio's example, college football would be much better for it.

NOTE: This is sarcasm. I understand that any sane person should be able to understand it, but then again, that's not always the case here.

Because Chip Kelly is a good

Because Chip Kelly is a good coach that cares about the situation. Also if he did nothing ESPN and every other news outlet would pummel him. He is a new Head Coach and does not need that! In the MSU case the only national stories you see are locally generated and picked up by he big boys and they are DO NO WRONG with the Freep. They are now "MICHIGAN'S TEAM"(what a fucking joke). Oregon has much more national exposure than MSU and that is really the difference. Plus winston was not on ESPN live when he did what he did. If he was he would still be in JAIL.

Because they are different situations at different schools

Involving different players. I'm not saying either decision is right or wrong, because I am not the best judge of these things and I find that having a really vociferous opinion means little, but I do know that A = B is rarely right.

I am not speaking in favor of

I am not speaking in favor of either programs' approach, but the MSU guy did serve jail time. In an idealistic version of the US system, that means he paid his debt. Blount will pay his debt by missing a season.
