Why D so bad?

Submitted by b-diddy on
How did our defense get so bad? Why is it paper thin? Transfers? Lack of recruiting? Lloyd? Christ is it bad. 1 legit cb, terrible safety play, no DT depth, a walk on starting at LB, true freshmen starting. How did it come to this? Im honestly at a loss by how bad the defense is.

...is that you didn't take it personally. You stay classy, San Diego. I would have let the rest of the WWE-style wrestling match with the English language pass, but "Why D so bad?" is joke-worthy. VERBS, people. I can't overemphasize the important of verbs.

Did Warren just take out Hemmingway? Man, we just can't stop tripping over ourselves today - literally! Hope both kids are alright, but this is some pretty funny/sad football by our team today.

To the hire of Shafer. Rodriguez didn't take defense as seriousy as he needed to with the move up in competition level from the Big East. The defense is a year behind now--no continuity, lousy defensive coaching staff (after Robinson), and the Big Ten is proving to be a much tougher league for Rodriguez than anyone thought (including him). There's no quick answers to this fucking mess--and it does not bode well for Rodriguez's future at Mihigan.

agreed. especially on the last part. maybe we should try a conventional 4-3, rather than this spinner/quick crap... i guess lack of DTs could be a problem there. which goes back to the main point. it seems like bad execution and a lack of talent. how did it get so bad so quick? these are still carr's guys... if it werent for graham our defense would be hopeless. uhoh next year.

The defense was already bad in 2007. They did allow the Horror and the Debacle that year. As for the person who the comment that "it does not bode well for Rodriguez's future at Mihigan," your "analysis" is as bad as your spelling. Carr neglected this team when he lost his stomach for recruiting the last few years of his tenure. You can't expect RR to snap his fingers or rub a magic lamp and rebuild the team in an instant. AFAIC, anyone who is already jumping off the bandwagon is the epitome of the "Walmart Wolverine" myth from our neighbors up in EL. This team is already doing better than many thought it would. I would like to see RR actually have a team with his own seniors on it before passing harsh judgement on him.

..about Mihigan Men. Seriously, is TheKnowledge posting under 37 different names today? Sure, the game went poorly. That HAPPENS sometimes. Drink a beer, take a shit, move on with life. It's times like these when you find out who's really "All In," and who's just hanging around the 'cool kids' table

Frustration is understandable... but give the man some time. From 3-9 to 7-5 (which seems to be the general consensus) isn't world-beating, but it's significant improvement. 70% of the players are underclassmen. Let's not send the guy packing quite yet.

this sounds nice, bur im not sure theres a lot of merit to it. a dc isnt like an oc or qb coach. whoever the dc is, its not like they have to reinvent the wheel. and our biggest problems seem to be lack of size in our front seven and lack of talent in the secondary. maybe the guys playing the quick and the spinner could use this excuse, but for the other nine, theyre just not getting the job done. and this is hardly based on one game.

The middle is an absolute disaster. Starting up front with the ineffective Van Bergen and the humongous disappointment Martin, to the generally ineffective Mouton and the disaster Ezeh and on up to the slow footed Kovacs and always late Williams, the middle is leaving gaping holes. For a big guy like Martin to be pushed back almost to the ground is simply embarrassing. Ezeh trying to cover a TE is downright laughable. It just can't get any worse out there. While I'm not ready to give up on Martin, I do think Campbell should get some experience because the situation cannot be worse. Ezeh has been getting too many chances and needs to be benched. He obviously is not the answer for the future and I would like to see Fitzgerald because he can't be worse than Ezeh. Roh should play the remainder of the year so he can improve his run defense in game situations. Perhaps Turner should burn the redshirt and just play because Kovacs is most certainly not the answer at safety. The defensive weaknesses are clear now. I'm afraid they will persist unless the backups emerge.

Am I the only one who didn't think the defense was terrible? Quarless's catch-and-run TD was ridiculously bad on our part, but the offense is to blame for this loss, in my opinion. They offense didn't do anything outside of the opening drive and left Michigan's defense in bad position time and time again.

penn state was awful on 3rd downs (not as bad as us), and brandon graham was easily the best player on the field on either side of the ball. the commentators were constantly talking about how much of a game changer brandon graham was, and on several occasions, the next play just happened to be a graham sack/hurry/tackle for loss etc.

any more einstein's want to say our defense isnt terrible? illinois' dead last rated offense maybe has figured something out? what do we have, 1 take away all year? our offense better be #1 in the country next year, or its goign to be alot more losses too. and if your trying to delude yourself into thinking its due to the transition of a new dc, coordinators come in all the time and make impacts over night. the defense is talent depleted, and itll be worse next year.
