Air Force since i was recruited back in 1998.
Air Force since i was recruited back in 1998.
'the Chippewas of CMU! I was fortunate to go to school there during the "glory days" with Dan LeFevor and several solid NFL players... I went to a lot of fun games (the bowl games, MSU, Central-Western, BC, Ball St, etc) and went to even more really fun tailgates...
Fire Up Chips!!!
My 3rd favorite is probably Northwestern because they are a B1G team and they just have so much against them to actually be an elite team in college or even the B1G (top teir academics, small school, small fanbase, mediocre recruits, purple jerseys, etc)--But, they have a great character coach and smart, hard-working players that give it their all each game.
I was there during the Lefevor years, some good drunk times at Kelly-Shorts.
mgoshoe - where are you? Go Navy!
I have been to the following campuses: Stanford, Cal, San Fran U, App St, Duke, NC, Kentucky, BC, Mi St, CMU, WMU, EMU, SVSU, OU, LSSU, MI Tech, Grand Valley, ND, NWU, UofChicago, Marquette, San Jose St, Wake Forrest, Illinois, SLU, Washington U (STL), Tenn, Baylor, Memphis, University of Warsaw, Oxford, University of Tokyo.
I would have to say the best looking campus is Stanford. The most vocal campus is Cal (think Hash Bash 24/7/365). Coolist campus bar is App St. Best looking women is a tie: University of Warsaw and Duke.
2nd Favorite team: Slippery Rock
I lived there in the 90s when they couldn't lose, couple that with the fact I was 10 years old and you can only imagine how much of a Husker fan I was back then.
I later moved to Michigan and eventually attended UofM. It is remarkable the bond you can get for the school you attend. These days nothing compares to Michigan, but it has been interesting seeing Nebraska join the Big Ten.
I had no trouble cheering for Michigan last time they played. And while I wish them the best, I don't ever want them in the way of our championships...
I hate them so much though when we play them. Its a fun love hate relationship!!
Boise because I love the Smurf Turf and how a school with zero "tradition" has quickly established itself as a national force through great coaching and execution. And Navy, because I was an Naval Officer and love everything that the Middies (and the Black Knights and Falcons) stand for as students, players, and future leaders.
Rock Chalk Jayhawk...my brothers went to KU and completely warped my mind.
any team that is/has beaten msu, osu, or notre dame. i guess i have alot of second favorites.
born and raised in Marquette.
Born and raised in Texas, and UT will always be my second favorite
2. Slippery Rock
3. U Deleware
I've watched them all play live, and they are really fun to watch
Utah for me too. I have a degree from there, so Michigan and Utah are my 1a and 1b teams. It was realy tough for me when Michigan played Utah in the season opener during Rich Rod's first season. At the time, I was rooting for Michigan. In retrospect, I'm glad Utah won that one because it was the beginning of a special season that ended with a dominating performance against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl to cap an undefeated season.
I graduated from UA and pull for them (ESP against MSU last year haha).
But do not be alarmed, there is no question as to where my allegiances will be in Dallas next year.
so I pull for Navy as my #2 team.
Was able to play some pickup games while on station and us Marines were always able to put asside our differences with the saliors on station for our own Navy vs. Army games. If it meant kicking their asses up and down the field, it was all worth it.
Undefeated since 1973 (school couldn't keep funding it, so now it's a club sport)
Kidding aside, ever since my uncle began law school at Florida I occasionally root for the Gators.
My alma matter is Colorado so I gotta go with the Buffs, one of the best football games I ever watched was when we were down 3 tds in the late 3rd against #3 Oklahoma and came back to win. Only time I got to rush the field as a college student.
Gotta go with the Buffs as well. Interesting tradition and I have family that is currently attending. I hope they get better fast!
<----- are 1A and 1B in whatever order floats your boat, so I guess second favorite is Navy, Texas, or Purdue, the latter two being family schools (along with GVSU), and Navy because I was in it.
If my grad school (UDM) ever puts a team on the field, then I guess the above get leapfrogged.
MICHIGAN first and foremost!!
Born on campus and went there.
Clemson....i went to a tech school in Greenville, S.C. and spent my teenage years there and then went to Clemson.
It's either wear a Clemson paw shirt or wear a hat that says, "Cocks" and i am not kidding. :/ So, growing up in S.C., was not hard to pick a school for me.
South Florida because i went there too.
Grew up across the street from OU's campus.
Wish they had football.
I was born and raised there for the first 12 years of my life. I actually rooted for Oklahoma State during Barry Sander's Heisman year though.
Virginia Tech. Family friends that went there.
I attended the Air Force Academy so I have to say they are my #2. I am looking forward to the game next year. I think it will be way closer than people think. Never underestimate a bunch of smart, disciplined, overachieving Cadets.
I would have loved to have gone to college at Michigan but they don't have an aviation program. My father and sister are both U of M grads and my dad had taken me to all the home games since I can ever remember. It's in the blood and will always be my #1.
A person comes on here and overrates a post by someone who has attended the Academy and served the country? There are some real class acts on here.
I usually keep an eye on UCLA, especially because I despise the Trojans. Them, TSIO, Notre Dame and Dick Cheney are in my axis of evil.
I'm an alum and proud of it.
Now on a national level after Michigan, I am a big Bama Fan..
My Grandpa instilled a healthy respect for Bear Bryant and and the Alabama tradition when I was a kid. He understands, but has never been happy that Michigan will always be my number 1..
I moved out to Oregon from Michigan about 4 years ago. My wife is an Oregon alumn, although her favorite team is now Michigan. We have season tickets to the Ducks and take our motor home down for the games. The atmosphere at Autzen is fantastic. And the added bonus is the extremely hot, and slightly dirty cheerleaders.
Clemson. Good school on a beautiful campus.
This thread pulled at my hart strings, I sometimes forget and need to be reminded of the long list of schools that are not Michigan.
GVSU. Represent the black and blue.
USC and Oregon. I love those Pac 12 schools.
I have teams from each conference/rivalry I like/will root for if it doesn't hurt Michigan.
Pac 12: USC/Washington
Big 12: Texas
Big East: WVU
I've always been a U of M fan because I am from Michigan and My dad got his masters degree there, but we moved to Tennessee about 13 years ago and I will soon start graduate school there. AND of course I was pulling for Michigan when we played them, but I will always root for UT unless they play Michigan again..
What grad school program? I'm starting my second year at UT. Let me know if you ever want to get together to watch UM games or carpool to Ann Arbor. You can email me at email@example.com
Im going to enroll in the Social Work Program, but I may do the DE program they have since I live about 45 minutes south of Nashville. It would be easier for me to drive to Nashville on Saturday's for class than driving to Knoxville.
I won't claim to be a true fan of any of these other teams, but here they are:
EMU--Wife is a graduate, and also recently I wish the best for Coach English, whatever the odds he faces
New Mexico--Have a family connection there, spent some time in Albuquerque, like the town and campus. I've been given some Lobos gear, which I wear occasionally, mostly b/c I think the logo is cool.
BONUS: 2nd favorite Big Ten team is Northwestern; probably the team I've found the most likeable anyway over the years, but especially now because a current member of their team just married my wife's cousin this summer. Really nice guy, and he thinks the world of coach Fitzgerald and all his coaches there.
I have a soft sopt for Georgia because I feel like their fanbase is similar to ours, especially in the Murphy's Law sort of way and I think Doug Gillett is one of the funniest writers blogging (well, I'm not sure if he still is, but still!) besides Brian and Orson.
Athens is a true college town and reminds me of a smaller and warmer Ann Arbor. Plus it has the 40 Watt which is epic win.
Was a huge Aikman fan as a kid and because they've always been, atleast for most of their history, the anti-USC. A school that doesn't recruit delinquints, holds itself to a higher educational standard, and hasn't been on NCAA probation more times then most USC grads can count. But with their ill-advised hire of that spineless worm slick Rick that fandom has soured alittle bit.
Sort of pull for Wake Forest. Shuts up the UNC and Duke fans when they win.
LSU is my go to number two in all NCAA football games. I like the diversity of their offense.
Purdue...one of my sons picked up a couple of degrees there before going to Michigan for a PhD.
When Purdue and Michigan play, I simply observe the game and don't cheer.
I like Cal. Solely based on colors. Similar to Michigan. Results similar too the past few years.
