Who would you like to see Michigan play in the bowl game?
I'd like to see Florida in a bowl game in the state of Florida. They have a good defense but their offense is awful.
Since the Rose Bowl is most likely out of the question even if Michigan wins the rest of their games, they'd need state to shit the bed three times.
If Michigan wins out, they could get an at-large bid to a BCS ala 2011.

I don't agree that the program is assholish, but I don't know why people are completely dismissing the fact that this program is like most college programs; it's about winning and losing to an extent, but it is run by stubborn-ish people with agendas that aren't always aligned with the desires of the fanbase completely. And listen, I love what Carr did while at UM, but he was a pretty prickly guy who rubbed lots of people wrong.

Very well thought of but - in my personal opinion - too nicely said on the stubbornish people with agendas. It appears that those running this ship are so often operating against fan-friendly ideals that I have to question why so many people would love it back other than the reason that they just don't know how to live any other way.
That is the reason for widespread dismissal. People would not know how to justify the amount of time and hope they invest into Michigan football otherwise.

It's more than just an extent. Before every home game we flash on the scoreboard, "The most wins in college football", "42 Big 10 Championships", etc. Winning is our identity, and it's what we're selling to players and fans. We like to pretend that we're above the pedestrian cares of other programs where it's all about winning at any cost, but I don't see any asterisks after the above statements to the effect,
"* - and even though we're winning less than we have in recent year, our wins are more meaningful because they are achieved more ethically than our competitors to the south...you all know who we're talking about"
Let's not kid ourselves here.

The athletic director accounts for less than 1% of my emotional investment in Michigan Football. Even if he was the world's biggest loser I would still support the team. Especially considering the players and coaches are especially likeable, even if they are underperforming. The fact that you have jumped off the ship based on the athletic director of all things makes me think that you are a pathetic "fan".

What is likeable about Taylor Lewan? Fingerstache. Twosie. Dr. Hamlet III. He's a goofy, funny, charismatic college kid. There's a lot to like about Taylor Lewan. College football would be well served to have more kids like him playing.

That's a failure of senior leadership IMO. "We won't be bullied again" made him 0-for-2 on the tough talk follow-through with his performance being particularly embarrassing.
And whether it is true or not, his name is also part of a police report associated with some pretty heinous stuff.

The team does not follow his lead, is my point. His words are not creating a rallying point like he is intending. They really won't follow him after he talks tough and then embarrasses himself on the field like Saturday. Could you imagine this guy giving a speech to the team before the OSU game? I know he wouldn't be my choice.
And no, I never said it was true. Cut that shit out now. But the fact that it is out there should give some people pause about assuming he is a great guy, should it not? I hope it isn't true for many reasons. But you can't unsee what you saw, either.

Your alternative, solution, whatever:
-Hire an AD who has actually been a part of an athletic department before. UM refuses to do that. The last thing you do is hire a guy who is from the bottom-line world. What kind of message does that send?
-Maximize your financial resources (the second greatest in college sports before the Ross donation) and hire a coach you like who has a great track record somwhere else. You don't have to pluck Brady Hoke out of SDSU and more than triple his salary just because he loves Michigan. That is bowing to the some incredibly harmful vices this program needs to eliminate from its culture. (edit: and I am not saying blow it up now. Hoke deserves five years for purposes of stability. His offensive staff however can go now and needs to. Huddle-up MANBALL will not work here and it's not working in many places period).
-The AD should be working the donors, the program's public voices and his own staff to get them all behind HIS outsider hire. Brandon instead was so scared of the Miles camp that he sent massive maize-and-blue painted planes down to Baton Rouge to say "See, we're talking to him! No diss here!" and then made a Lloyd Loyalist hire either because that's the clan he most identifies with or (perhaps more likely) he's just scared they would go out on the warpath for the second straight time and he didn't know how to stop them.

Given the B1G bowl tie-ins only the Little Caesar's bowl would be a neutral/home game. Everything else is squarely in the other conferences territory (Rose in CA, Capital/etc. in FL, Dallas in TX...). That fact plus the unfavorable matchups (plus the conference ineptitude) have lead to some bad bowl records in recent years.

Our chances would be minimal, but I would love to play Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M or Oklahoma. Part of the fun for me in bowls is to see Michigan play another power that we haven't met in a while. To be perfectly honest, given how young the team is, it would be a good learning experience to play one of the above.
