Who will wear #98?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

I say Dennis Norfleet.

Why? He's elusive. He's a dynamic return threat and a weapon.

Tom Harmon was just that. He had no true genuine position. He played all over the place.

Also, Dennis Norfleet isn't already established with a set jersey # like Fitz or someone like that. He's had #26 and now #23.

The rulebook "strongly recommends" that backs of any designation wear 1-49 on offense, reserving 80-99 for "ends", which makes some sense considering the typical numbering for tight ends. I have to wonder if the non-absolute wording means there is some room to stray from the desired convention, however. The rules talk about numbering on offense only.

I agree the NFL's system is overly restrictive, particularly now that many players have no clear position.  But the college system makes sense, because it separates ineligible receivers from eligible ones.  Basically, if you are ineligible, wear 50-79, and if you are eligible, wear anything else.  This makes it way easier on the refs.

Idk- but I love the image in my mind of him wearing that number. (Strange to think of skill players wearing 98 and I love it)

He's talking about his past... a couple of years ago he was arrested/accused of rape, but not convicted (I think charges were dropped.)  But, this whole situation made it rather questionable and arguably distasteful when he had the whole "brunette girls" line after winning the Sugar Bowl.

Voted best answer.

This whole discussion is the perfect example of why this Legends jersey issue has gotten out of hand.  If its not clear that one individual deserves to wear the number (Its freakin' Harmon, for crissakes!) then no one should wear it.  Gallon probably deserves to wear Desmond's jersey (still questionable) and Jake Ryan may have earned his jersey, but no way does Funchess deserve one (no offense intended) and surely no one deserves Tom Harmon's jersey.  He's arguably the best play ever to wear the Maize and Blue!  You all really think Norfleet deserves that honor??

If not Q Wash, I think Drew Dileo is a realistic option. He returns punts, he's the holder, and he is a playmaker on offense. Just like Harmon, he does anything and everything you ask, or so it seems.
