Who will have the biggest game tonight?

Submitted by Space Coyote on

Over at Tremendous, I wrote up an article detailing why I think Devin Funchess is going to have a coming out party tonight

When Michigan’s hungry: Funchess munches. I’m not sure my creativity there even makes sense, but Funchess should be a prime target in this game. Play action pop pass behind OLB playing run first and trying to hold edge? Check. SS attempting to come down and getting beat on the skinny post or drive route (like a drag/post, about 10 yards deep, attacking the far corner)? Check. A stab (essentially a hitch toward the center of the field) and/or drag route (probably more drag due to Denard’s lack of height and trouble throwing over the middle) behind the fast attack of ND’s MLBs? Check. 10 yard out routes with WRs driving the man covering CBs and the OLBs trying to set the edge? Check. Wheel route on the OLB trying to stay on the out route? Check (Watch the FB here).

For ND, I think Wood is an early round RB. He's got a good mix of speed, elusiveness, and power to break arm tackles. With ND's offense typically being pass first, he has the ability to gash teams with a draw or a counter. I really like Wood (like Magnus really likes Cox (NTTAWWT)) and think he's going to have a big game for the other guys.

So what say you mgodenizens, which players do you see having big games tonight? Denard, the other Devin aka DG, Kovacs, Fitz? Te'o, Golson, Eifert, Nix III?

*elusiveness

I think either Wood or Atkinson will have a big game, but not both. Mattison has shown an ability to single out a player and totally shut them down.

Te'o will have a good game as always, and I'm a little worried that Eifert will as well. Eifert should be the first or second tight end in the draft.

I'm a huge fan of The Funchess, but I think it's important for Fitz or another running back to show up. That's been our problem for the last couple of years...Denard and no one else works in the run game.

I think Fitz ends up coming up big for us. Borges is going to come out pass first to set up the run, then Fitz and Denard take over killing the clock. I like Funchess and DG against those DBs too.

I think if anyone's going to be a stand-out for us (other than Denard) it's going to be either Frank Clark or Jake Ryan. Considering our front 7 is..questionable(?) at this point, I think if there's a big defensive performance, it's going to be from one of those two. A few TFLs, maybe a few sacks and a FF between them (if things are going well)

Te'o is going to have a big game, but that's like saying the sun is coming up tomorrow. Slot receivers and Funchess will be key today. We're going to need to pull the linebackers back and keep the safeties out of the box for our offense to have a nice game.

If he starts weak bench him. Run Denard! Run Rawls! Pass short plays or jump balls to Funchess! I am a fan and not a coach just like everyone here. Some truly think they could call a college game. That is funny. Go Blue! Just win!

Probably Gardner, since ND's secondary is pretty inexperienced and Denard should be able to elude pressure enough times for him to get downfield.  For ND, I agree that Wood should have a good game, but I'm thinking that Golson will struggle.  Te'o should be a monster as usual, but he was like Floyd for all those years - great stats, but never felt like he took over a game after his freshman year (and even then it wasn't great).

Hopefully the DL and the OL control the game. Would love to see Michigan's D dominate this game. As someone else said I hope Michigan can get up and then just control the clock. Would like to see Michigan control the game like ND did last week against sparty.

F. Clark's been looking like the best player on the d-line. I'll go with him on this one besides the obvious shoelace. I wouldn't mind if Demens decided to show up and play some football this year though.

I think Fitz will come alive today...  He will be the old Fitz from late last year...   Funchess could be a monster in this game if they use him right...
