Who is traveling watch M in the Gator Bowl?

Submitted by mgoblue52 on

Woo!  I started a thread last week regarding traveling to the Insight Bowl, but I'm glad that we're not going there. The Gator Bowl works out a lot better considering my family gatherings around Christmas and the fact that it is less expensive to fly to Jacksonville than Arizona.  Who's planning on going?

Even though Arizona would have been closer for me, I don't mind Jacksonville all that much.  The flight will end up costing me the same anyways.  I would have been happy as long as it was in a city that Jet Blue flew to.

Being from FL, I will be very happy if we are in fact in the Gator Bowl.  I also purchased tickets earlier in the week, so this would work out great.

I am already going to Jacksonville to spend the winter break between classes with my uncle and brother. Now I'm dragging them out to watch the Maize and Blue on the first day of 2011

im coming from portland, or so its going to be quite a flight. but i have never been to a bowl game and after the past two years i don't want to miss anymore opportunities.

you never know when they will go again, although i think the future is bright and the worst is behind us!

You from around there, and just looking for tickets? You going on a trip down there? You can buy tix directly from the bowl, or get them scalped cheaper, if you're around there. Or get them from the Alumni Association/Athletic Department at full price but be sure and sitting with other Michigan people, and help them get their allotment out. Bowl game tix are not generally that hard to find.

There's also an Alumni Association Tour http://www.michigansportstours.com/ That will take care of travel to the city, to and from hotel and Stadium and usually has some perks, with some addition tours and events you can sign up for (for more $$$). But it's usually a little more pricey than if you were to Travelocity it or something.  Depends on how much you want to do on your own, and how much you want to do.  But tickets shouldn't be a problem. Bowl games rarely sell out, unless it's a fabulous match-up, or a National Championship type game.

Since my family lives in New York and I already booked my flight home for break (12/22-1/3, DTW to LGA), me and my dad have to work around that. I'm thinking I'll just wake up early and buy from mgoblue and deal with plane tickets/hotel/rental car when I talk to my dad again tonight since he hasn't gotten home yet.

I went to the Rose Bowl a few years ago. One of my friends bought our group tickets through the AD. Since we were students we got the lowest priority seats in the upper part of the bowl in the end zone. We also bought tickets to the alumni association tail gate (ended up not going since there was not a shuttle from rose parade to the Rose Bowl and we walked the entire F'ing route...).

Tavelocity is your best friend for hotels.

Kind of bummed they aren't coming out here. But I was just looking at tickets for the Gator Bowl. Pretty decent prices if you ask me. Even for the VIP seating.

Flight cost from Phx to Jville is the problem!

Wish I had my own G6.

As luck would have it, I will be in Daytona Beach for a week from 25th December to the 1st, but I am flying out just as the game's about to kickoff. I would desperately like to stick around and go to the game. However, change fees and itinerary changes in JetBlue mean an additional 300 bucks is added to the ticket. Plus, the cost of the actual game tickets and I am looking at an additional 500$ out of pocket, which is a bit much. Is there anyway I can cut the change fees on JetBlue? Anybody have experience with this sort of things? Anybody here work for JetBlue and help out a fellow fan? :)

The founder of Jetblue is not from Michigan but his side kick is.  The side kick is now the CEO and while he is an alum, I've not found him to be much of a football fan.  The name has nothing to do with M.  I can tell you that when JB was flying to Columbus, some of the pilots were known to play Hail to the Victors while in the area if not over the airport PA system : )

What hotel the team will be staying in, a post would be appreciated.

(Not sure if I'm going...but if I go, it's with Dos Equis).
