Who should wear the Wistert brothers #11 Saturday?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

By now, you know the drill. Who should wear Francis, Albert and Alvin Wistert's #11? I say Quinton Washington. He has been having a remarkable season. Plus, all 3 of the Wistert brothers played tackle.

Saturday will be the final Legends jersey honoring that will take place this season.

It's a shame Lewan can't wear it, or I would say him.

I'd give it to Roh since he's been playing well this year after all he's been through and all the positions he's been asked to play over the past four years.

Q would be a good choice, but what about Kovaks?  What he has done at Michigan as a walk on and leader through the crappy years and now a few good years is amazing.

Yes, there is no way that I could have made the conclusion that changing your captain's number with four (maybe five if the B1G Championship happens) games left in his career is not a good idea all on my own.

"Flamebait?"

Remember two things:

1.  Don't ever complain about mgopoints, including being negged.

2.  There are some people here who like to neg a lot of posts.  Trying to make sense of it all or taking them personally will drive you nuts.  "Flamebait" probably means "I disagree with this post" in "negging-ese."

that they must have either been saving a number for Kovacs or he has turned one down in the past.  I just don't understand why he would be overlooked.  I hear he may have even been a walk-on(?!)  at one point.  In all seriousness, I would like him to be recognized.  I know there is the argument that he has made 32 his legacy, but I would argue that Anthony Thomas made it a special number back in the 90's-2000.  In short, my call is Kovacs.

Quinton Washington would be a good choice, IMO. He has overcome a ton of adversity in his career. Including switching positions, to overcoming a speech impediment, and now being a main force / starter on the defensive line. Plus, it would be cool to see him in #11 just like other DL throughout the country.

I'd agree with Quinton. He's been through alot here at Michigan and has worked his way to starting and has become a presence on the defensive line so far. He's earned it.

I;m just remembering to ask this now, as I've been inundated the last 2 weeks, but I didn't hear anything about why they didn't do any ceremony before the MSU game for Harmon, as was scheduled on the ticket.  Anyone with any information?

I think they should give out the number to 3 players, one on offense, one on defense, and one special teamer, because there were three Wistert brothers who wore #11. I'd go with J.T. Floyd on defense just because his #8 doesn't stand out to me and Magnus would be pissed. On offense, I like Dileo, and for special teams, maybe Wile.

Can't do Dileo and Wile.  Dileo is still the holder (right?) and Wile is the long FG kicker.  It would be a penalty, probably knocking us out of FG range, and in all likelihood costing us the game.  Or something like that...

I logged in to say that, but I'll just add that whoever you give it to wouldn't be able to play on pretty much any special teams together, including kick off and punt coverage and returns. You wouldn't want them to even practice because you don't want to accidentally send both out there. Also, I believe these players are supposed to keep the numbers until they graduate. So, you wouldn't be able to have your special teams guy ever play outside of special teams.

I think it's a really cool idea, but I just don't see it working.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe just one on offense and one on defense would work. You could have a Tight End and a Defensive Tackle. Kwiatkowski take it on offense (until the end of the year and then give it to Funchess next year) and give it to Washington or Pipkins on Defense. 11 would really stand out at both positions.

Just a hunch, but my guess is Gallon.  Would be a nice number for a receiver/returner/jetsweeper.  Plus, Gallon has one more year and is well-respected it seems by the coaches (albeit so is QWash).  I just don't see #11 going to a D-tackle but I could be wrong.

Also, it's not like they are really matching positions for these honors...Gerald Ford to Desmond Morgan and Oosterbaan to Ryan (yes Oosterbaan played some D but primarily known as an end) ends that argument.

I'm going with the darkhorse here: Gibbons.

11 looks kind of like a kicker's number and plus, Gibbons has the frame of a tackle to pull it off.  He's been impressing lately and I think he's due for one of these "legends" numbers.

Denard? Just keeding.

Seems like if they give it to a tackle, it would make the most sense to give it to Quinton Washington.

I could see Roh as well or maybe a corner. I'm pretty sure it won't be an offensive player though.

give Jake mother fu*%ing Ryan ALL of the numbers? I'm afraid he may get mad at us if we don't
