Who the Pistons should draft

Submitted by Lil Michigan Man 7 on
I have been impressed with Greg Monroe for a while and he is a good defender, scorer, rebounder, and he runs the floor. He is on ESPN right now if anyone wants to watch him. So in my opninion he is the player who if avaible the Pistons should draft because the Pistons obviously need better big men what is your opninion?

I haven't really put a lot of thought into it, but Monroe seems to be a good fit. Not any other big men that really come to mind after him. I saw Greg play a little against Syracuse, and I was impressed. He can do it all as a big man. I would not be upset if the Pistons got him in the draft.

just tank the rest of the season and try and get more ping bong balls in the lottery. Then draft Cousins and get the rebounder they need.

If you can't beat'em join him. No just kidding. He'll be too high of a pick anyways. I think they need a post guy. I'm not saying this because he played at Michigan or anything, but how is Udoh projected in the NBA draft. He scored 25 points against Texas. He's got his team rolling on all cylinders.

Get John Wall, or Turner, or Cousins. Hell get anyone in the top of the draft, its a pretty good draft this year. One exception, DO NOT DRAFT COLE ALDRICH, DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER DRAFTING HIM! Yeah, maybe I don't like him because he's a tall, unathletic looking white guy, dont' care, STAY AWAY!!

I agree with you on Aldrich. Although he is a pretty damn good natural athlete, just needs to shed a few pounds to really improve his vertical. Aldrich is an old-school big man, and won't be an effective in the NBA. He's not that fast laterally and will really struggle with pick-and-roll defense. NBA has defensive 3-second so he can't just sit in one place and block shots, and he won't be as good as a weakside shotblocker as he is in college. On offense, he is a bit mechanical and seems to rely on bulk more than leverage or determination to establish great position. I still think he has a chance to get in shape, improve his game, and be a very good player. But the Pistons need a great player.

I think everyone is of the opinion the Pistons need a Bigman. Pistons are scheduled to pick 8th right now but if they get lucky in the lottery they could end up with a top 3 pick. If they don't looks like they will pick in the 6-9 range and will have one of Favors, Cousins, Whiteside, Patterson, Davis, Aldrich, and Monroe available where they pick. Draft is very deep in lottery on big men. There also might be a shot blocking big like Varnardo or Udoh or Alabi available high in the 2nd round if one of them falls. The Piston are one of the least talented teams in the league. Almost all their players are close to tapping out their upside or don't have all that much upside in the first place. Pistons need to get lucky and get the 1st or 2nd pick and short of that take the best player available. I love Monroe's game but he's not Chris Webber. He's nice complementary player and probably a 3rd option on a very good team. The Pistons should definitely swing for the fences and go for the best player available and go for a high upside guy at the top of the 2nd. The Pistons aren't going to contend with this roster and need to try to trade some of their old guys (if that's even possible) for some young guys or draft picks and get an infusion of young talent this off-season. Bottom line, the Pistons need to draft someone who has a chance of being a superstar and I just don't think Monroe, or even someone like Aldrich has that in their DNA.

I loved it growing up but it sucks that good players get traded for bad ones w/ overinflated contracts b/c dead money expiring contracts hold as much value as talent. I only say this b/c Detroit is stuck w/ so many shooting guard types (Stuck, BenG, Rip, Tayshaun, Daye, etc) that they can't draft the best player - they have to go need instead. NBA needs to move away from full guaranteed contracts - soon. BTW - I love Wall and Cousins. Hate Kentucky but love Wall and Cousins (that is one big bitch).

they should pick up monroe. he's big, can handle the ball pretty well for his size, and can even shoot it from the outside. add that to his athleticism and willingness to bang inside and he's all you could want

i agree with monroe he is only a soph and considered one of the best passing bigs in all of college basketball, his outside game isn't much right now but i could see him developing outside range and being similar to lamarcus aldridge.

Anybody but DeMarcus Cousins....that guy has headcase written all over him. If I had to choose, Wesley Johnson or Evan Turner, but it's hard to say if we'll even get high enough to get them. Favors would be OK but he is pretty raw.
