Who is our next high NFL draft pick?

I read an article about Graham today. I thought about the current roster, and realized it might be a while before we produce another high draft pick.

Who do you think is the next M player to crack the top three rounds?

My guess: "With the 43rd pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Taylor Lewan, tackle, University of Michigan."

Woolfolk?

I think Troy has the speed to potentially get into the early rounds with a good senior year.

If not him I think Mike Martin is a definite early round pick.

I agree about Martin. Also,

I agree about Martin. Also, depending on how he plays, I could see Koger going in the mid 2nd-3rd round to a team in need of an athletic TE. Molk may also surprise people, even though on paper he doesn't seem like a prototypical lineman.

Agree that he has a shot,

but I think it will be Mike Martin, the following draft.

I'd guess Mouton more so than Obi, I know nfldraftscout.com had him as a third round at the beginning of this year, I think that's changed since then, but he definitely has the freak athletic ability. Sam Webb thinks he could be all-Big Ten caliber. That's my hoping anyway, he seemed pretty sharp in the spring game, tackling well, covering the right holes, dropping into coverage and covering larger zones than last year,

Maybe I'm off base here but my understanding was that even if the CBA falls through in the NFL and there is a strike there will still be a draft in 2011.

I thought that the only reson more juniors were expected to come out this year was because there could be a rookie cap for the next draft, so they could make more money this year. Im not credible by any means though.

Measurables..

Woolfolk has a lot of potential to be a first 3 round draft pick because he is likely going to have some very good 'measurable' stats (i.e. Tests during the Combine). He'll need to have a strong senior campaign to back it up, but I think we'll be mildly suprised by his draft position next year.

I thought the same thing.

He is better-suited at guard rather than tackle, where he started in 2007 and 2008. In his second year at guard this year, let's hope he shows he has what it takes to be a guard at the next level. I say he goes in the first three rounds next year.

Wait

There are 9 comments on here already, and nobody has said "Denard as #1 in 2012"?

In seriousness, while the fanbase has been tough on RR, the fact that other than Graham, we have not had a high pick in 2 years and cannot realistically name who our next high pick will be only underscores the serious youth / lack of star power on the players that he has been coaching. Sad - it wasn't all that long ago when we regularly had players taken in the top 3 rounds.

1st round

IMO, it'll be

Patrick Omameh(some NFL team will think that he has the athleticism to kick it out at LT from OG)
Denard Robinson (as a Percy Harvin type and will run 4.3 in the 40 easily)
Big Will(if he can improve his techniques and doesn't have motor issues)
Taylor Lewan(if he can continue to bulk up, sky is the limit for Lewan)
Craig Roh(would be a great rush LB, 3-4 OLB in the next level)
JT Turner(as a S, he's already huge for a CB and he is a natural FS who can run, cover and tackle)

These are the players on the current roster who has the potential to be a 1st rounder down the road. I did not include '10 class because we have yet to see them on the field.

But if we're talking about the next Michigan player to get drafted as a 1st rounder, I would have to say Denard Robinson. He can go 3 years and be gone after his junior year. NFL teams will be salivating for his speed, quickness and his ability to go to the distance at any time.

It's scary to think just how good Michigan will be in '11 season, assuming that RR can stay til '11 season. As for '10 season, I would expect a big improvement and a bowl appearance.

You don't move out from guard

You don't move out from guard to be a 1st round left tackle. That sounds almost as crazy as moving from receiver to QB and being a 1st rounder.

Branden Albert

did that. Mike Iupati has the ability to kick out to OT(which is the biggest reason why he tried out at OT in Senior Bowl practice).

Patrick Omameh has the athleticism to kick out and play OT. He was being tried at both OG and OT in practice. Ditto with Ricky Barnum.

It's easily Steven Schilling.

He's basically all we're losing after this season.

Gotta be

It's gotta be Will Campbell or Lewan. They're the 2 with the elite physical gifts that warrant a high draft pick. Now they just have to refine their skills.

I would not be at all shocked

I would not be at all shocked is Schilling went in the 1st Round next year. He may have some problems in pass protection, but that's less of a problem at Guard than Tackle, and his measurables are still as good as they were when he earned 5 Stars. I think he will impress some scouts and land pretty high on draft boards come this time next spring.

Yeah

That would be the shock of the century. Sorry man, but Hutch, who is definitely in the conversation as one of the best OGs of all time, went 17th. As much as I respect Steve for being a solid contributor his whole career, he's nowhere near Hutch, and he's not going in the first 2 rounds.
