who is not rooting for Marshall tonight

Submitted by TIMBLUE on

I very much wish to see Marshall stomp tOSU, but a few friends of mine (also Michigan fans) want to see OSU go undefeated till they get to us.  Although i would love to ruin their season i cant bring myself to actually root against any team playing OSU.  Does anybody else WANT Marshall to lose tonight.

The irrational part of me wants to see green crawling over Pryor and the Bucknuts like mold on an old house.

The (tiny) rational part knows it'll be much better for the conference and The Game if they win.

This is the Big Ten, so naturally, there is a high degree of schadenfreuderific satisfaction at seeing a rival lose. On the other hand, I'm so emotionally invested in what happens to Michigan on Saturday, that I don't really care what happens to OSU, one way or another.

The best possible thing for UM would be for OSU to blow through their schedule with no difficulty and have the national media declaring them by The Game as the best team of the last ten years with nothing between them and the NC. I want Michigan to roll into the Shoe a 20pt underdog, with nobody in the universe giving us any chance at all.

I don't get this conference pride thing. The best thing possible is for michigan to go undefeated, crush an 0-11 OSU team and win a NC, that's it. We'll get all the glory, and recruits, and they'll get nothing.

It doesn't matter how people view the conference if we're dropping the hammer on every team we face, every week. I root for Michigan to take care of business and for our rivals to languish in mediocrity.

except that in that scenario even if we go 13(soon to be 14) and 0 people can always say there were teams from stronger conferences like the sec that didn't get a chance to play us becuase they had to play a tougher schedule.

I'm not saying I agree with that but I do want Michigan to roll through tough competition and curb stomp everyone, especially a quality Ohio State team.

Winning the game is so much more satisfying when OSU is good, just look back at the entire 1990's

Didn't this blog just spend a couple weeks blowing up about how moving UM-OSU to different divisions and out of the last game would be the worst thing ever because it would take all of the meaning and all of the stakes out of The Game? Well, what could be more meaningless than one team 11-0 and one team 0-11? Blech. UM-OSU is supposed to be about bitter, skilled opponents that need to leave absoultely everything on the field to come away with a win. For a rivalry to matter, both teams need to be invested in it. Otherwise it's just Little Brother.

So basically, my opinion on OSU is that I want them to be good enough for The Game to matter, but I will reserve the right to celebrate their losses to crappy teams. However, in big OOC games for OSU my preference for victory is usually 1) Meteor destroys the stadium 2) OSU 3) whatever overhyped / worshipped SEC/USC team OSU is playing. This does not mean I cheer for OSU, it just means that, in the rational bit of my brain, I know that one of the marquee teams in the Big Ten whooping on an out of conference opponent ultimately is good for Michigan and for The Game.

Like it or not, Michigan gains more respect if its opponents do well. Win or lose, we're better off playing a highly regarded Ohio State than we are if they go 0-12. It means we get more respect, which in turn makes it more likely that we wind up playing in the BCS title game when we go undefeated or have a one-loss season.

It would be pretty cool if Marshall won. It'd be hard for me to resist being a dick and sending out schadenfreude laden text messages to all the OSU fans I know.

That raises a good question. Which is worse: losing to Appalachian State or losing to Marshall? On one hand, Appalachian State was very, very good for a D1AA school. On  the other  hand, they're a D1AA school, and that season many had picked Michigan to win the BCS championship (I know I did - you guys were loaded for bear that season). Marshall is at least a D1A school, but they're really awful. I suspect that Appalachian State could beat Marshall, even with Matthew McConaughey on the sidelines.

I live in Ohio and any chance I get to see them lose is a pleasure. I know the conference thing is big, but who cares. Them fucks were living it up when we lost to App St.

I really don't know, but I guess I'll always enjoy an OSU loss. I would like OSU to be undefeated when we play them mostly to take the pressure off our team and to give us a little extra motivation to win. It's pretty much a win-win in that sense. Either OSU wins and has a shot at the 11-1 season with a loss to us or they lose and embarass themselves.

There isn't a single time I ever want OSU to do well.  It is nice when UM gets a chance at them during an undefeated season, but I root against Ohio State in everything.  Football, basketball, checkers, tic tac toe.  I lived in Ohio for 17 years, and can't stand anything scarlett and grey.  This being said go "Herd.

I prefer tOSU to roll into The Game with something to play for.  For example all lined up to head to a nice bowl and the like.  That way when we crush them and ban them to the Motor City Bowl it makes it that much sweeter.

Not rooting for the damn Buckeyes to lose and fail and die horrible deaths is the same as rooting for them to win.

I want them to lose.  All the time, any time, every time.

I am not rooting FOR Ohio State, I just won't be very upset if they win.

Sure, it would be an embarrassing loss for them, but do you really have any ground to stand on when bringing up embarrassing losses to an Ohio State fan?  It would make me chuckle to myself for a week or so, and every time highlights are shown, but it would be short lived.

However, us ruining their season with them being undefeated or in a title hunt would sting them for a lifetime.

I never root for tOSU to win in any individual game, but I do like it when they have a good record going into The Game (along with us) which gives so much more meaning to The Game.

My brain says "OSU should be undefeated at the end of the season making for a matchup of the titans at the end of the year."

But then my eyes view the scarlet and gray on the television and my heart has an automatic reflex of "Boo! Hiss! Stupid nuts! Die die die!"

My friends and I "used" to have "a little" problem with the gambling. OSU -29 right? I would take Marshall for these reasons:

-Tressel will keep it vanilla as always to show Miami nothing

-if the score is say 21-0 half, he'll pull the starters on O for sure, and the D will probably stick till the 4th

Why I would lose this bet:

-I'm a F'in black cat when it come to betting.

-Marshall throws/fumbles 4 pick 6's/fumble returns and OSU can't keep the score down.

Even if TP is up all night making love to his ego, OSU has too many horses for Marshall.  But I will be cheering for Marshall anyway.  I routinely root against OSU.  The only reason I don't say I would "never " root for them is that there will be, somewhere down the road, a game where Michigan will benefit if OSU wins.  That is the only scenario where I would ever root for OSU.

As the old saying goes, my favorite teams are Michigan and whoever is playing against OSU that week.
