I very much wish to see Marshall stomp tOSU, but a few friends of mine (also Michigan fans) want to see OSU go undefeated till they get to us. Although i would love to ruin their season i cant bring myself to actually root against any team playing OSU. Does anybody else WANT Marshall to lose tonight.
who is not rooting for Marshall tonight
And that's it.
The irrational part of me wants to see green crawling over Pryor and the Bucknuts like mold on an old house.
The (tiny) rational part knows it'll be much better for the conference and The Game if they win.
... to the irrational side.
Nope. If I had my way OSU would go 0-11 every year with a 100 point pounding in their final game of each season.
Worst fans in the country. I want them to lose every game, in every sport, for forever.
Not me said the flea.
I +1'ed you because I'm a sucker for wordplay. Keep on keepin on kid.
This is the Big Ten, so naturally, there is a high degree of schadenfreuderific satisfaction at seeing a rival lose. On the other hand, I'm so emotionally invested in what happens to Michigan on Saturday, that I don't really care what happens to OSU, one way or another.
...am ridiculously invested in Saturday's game. I can't think about the unimaginable, because...well, it is inimaginable. But also, if I was able to...I'd curl into the fetal position and rock.
I agree. But OSU losing to Marshall would be unbelievable. Truly inbelievable.
The best possible thing for UM would be for OSU to blow through their schedule with no difficulty and have the national media declaring them by The Game as the best team of the last ten years with nothing between them and the NC. I want Michigan to roll into the Shoe a 20pt underdog, with nobody in the universe giving us any chance at all.
I don't get this conference pride thing. The best thing possible is for michigan to go undefeated, crush an 0-11 OSU team and win a NC, that's it. We'll get all the glory, and recruits, and they'll get nothing.
It doesn't matter how people view the conference if we're dropping the hammer on every team we face, every week. I root for Michigan to take care of business and for our rivals to languish in mediocrity.
except that in that scenario even if we go 13(soon to be 14) and 0 people can always say there were teams from stronger conferences like the sec that didn't get a chance to play us becuase they had to play a tougher schedule.
I'm not saying I agree with that but I do want Michigan to roll through tough competition and curb stomp everyone, especially a quality Ohio State team.
Winning the game is so much more satisfying when OSU is good, just look back at the entire 1990's
The rationale being that it would be easier for UM to get into the MNC if they beat an undefeated OSU team, and visa versa. That notwithstanding, I'd prefer to have the game mean something, and having 11-0 teams square off means a lot more than 5-6 vs 9-2.
Yeah, it wouldn't be as much fun when OSU is 5-6.
At this point, I'm not so sure anyone needs to expel energy debating a scenario where 11-0 Michigan faces 0-11 Ohio State.
Didn't this blog just spend a couple weeks blowing up about how moving UM-OSU to different divisions and out of the last game would be the worst thing ever because it would take all of the meaning and all of the stakes out of The Game? Well, what could be more meaningless than one team 11-0 and one team 0-11? Blech. UM-OSU is supposed to be about bitter, skilled opponents that need to leave absoultely everything on the field to come away with a win. For a rivalry to matter, both teams need to be invested in it. Otherwise it's just Little Brother.
So basically, my opinion on OSU is that I want them to be good enough for The Game to matter, but I will reserve the right to celebrate their losses to crappy teams. However, in big OOC games for OSU my preference for victory is usually 1) Meteor destroys the stadium 2) OSU 3) whatever overhyped / worshipped SEC/USC team OSU is playing. This does not mean I cheer for OSU, it just means that, in the rational bit of my brain, I know that one of the marquee teams in the Big Ten whooping on an out of conference opponent ultimately is good for Michigan and for The Game.
What makes the rivalry great is that it's strong regardless of records; it's best*, however, when both teams are great.
*It's actually best when Michigan wins
Like it or not, Michigan gains more respect if its opponents do well. Win or lose, we're better off playing a highly regarded Ohio State than we are if they go 0-12. It means we get more respect, which in turn makes it more likely that we wind up playing in the BCS title game when we go undefeated or have a one-loss season.
I just want to see football.
I could do without a blow out too.
Friends who are not football fans have been making fun of me for watching so many replays on BTN and ESPN Classic. I just need some goddamned football, damnit!
It would be pretty cool if Marshall won. It'd be hard for me to resist being a dick and sending out schadenfreude laden text messages to all the OSU fans I know.
I mean I know it's "glass houses..." and all but after the horror and all the crap I've gotten from my OSU friends the last 3 years, there's no way I could resist sending some back in kind.
That raises a good question. Which is worse: losing to Appalachian State or losing to Marshall? On one hand, Appalachian State was very, very good for a D1AA school. On the other hand, they're a D1AA school, and that season many had picked Michigan to win the BCS championship (I know I did - you guys were loaded for bear that season). Marshall is at least a D1A school, but they're really awful. I suspect that Appalachian State could beat Marshall, even with Matthew McConaughey on the sidelines.
Don't you mean especially?
But yeah, Marshall isn't what it used to be...
I live in Ohio and any chance I get to see them lose is a pleasure. I know the conference thing is big, but who cares. Them fucks were living it up when we lost to App St.
I really don't know, but I guess I'll always enjoy an OSU loss. I would like OSU to be undefeated when we play them mostly to take the pressure off our team and to give us a little extra motivation to win. It's pretty much a win-win in that sense. Either OSU wins and has a shot at the 11-1 season with a loss to us or they lose and embarass themselves.
There isn't a single time I ever want OSU to do well. It is nice when UM gets a chance at them during an undefeated season, but I root against Ohio State in everything. Football, basketball, checkers, tic tac toe. I lived in Ohio for 17 years, and can't stand anything scarlett and grey. This being said go "Herd.
I lived in Ohio for 17 years, and can't stand anything scarlett and grey.
Apparently you can't spell scarlet and gray, either.
He just doesn't give a damn.
I prefer tOSU to roll into The Game with something to play for. For example all lined up to head to a nice bowl and the like. That way when we crush them and ban them to the Motor City Bowl it makes it that much sweeter.
I will be rooting for Marshall. My went to Marshall and I go to a few games a year.
and yes I have few thundering heard t-shirts.....
Not rooting for the damn Buckeyes to lose and fail and die horrible deaths is the same as rooting for them to win.
I want them to lose. All the time, any time, every time.
I've always rooted for the Big Ten but now that they're not in our division...
I am not rooting FOR Ohio State, I just won't be very upset if they win.
Sure, it would be an embarrassing loss for them, but do you really have any ground to stand on when bringing up embarrassing losses to an Ohio State fan? It would make me chuckle to myself for a week or so, and every time highlights are shown, but it would be short lived.
However, us ruining their season with them being undefeated or in a title hunt would sting them for a lifetime.
and everybody gets hurt!
I do root for the conference except for MSU(fuckin parasites). My take on all other Big Ten teams,"they can win every game but one."
I never root for tOSU to win in any individual game, but I do like it when they have a good record going into The Game (along with us) which gives so much more meaning to The Game.
My thoughts exactly. I'm happy they arrive with a good record if we win, but I could never actually watch a game and be happy when OSU does something good. Basically it's just a shade under 'I hope they all get hurt on this play'.
I want The Game to be epic, but in each individual game, I'm always rooting for an upset. The fact that it doesn't happen much makes each richer.
My brain says "OSU should be undefeated at the end of the season making for a matchup of the titans at the end of the year."
But then my eyes view the scarlet and gray on the television and my heart has an automatic reflex of "Boo! Hiss! Stupid nuts! Die die die!"
I'd totally like to see Marshall win this one, but I think they get blown out.
If you can handle reading about the Bucks, I've prepared a special Over/Under board for the game tonight.
My friends and I "used" to have "a little" problem with the gambling. OSU -29 right? I would take Marshall for these reasons:
-Tressel will keep it vanilla as always to show Miami nothing
-if the score is say 21-0 half, he'll pull the starters on O for sure, and the D will probably stick till the 4th
Why I would lose this bet:
-I'm a F'in black cat when it come to betting.
-Marshall throws/fumbles 4 pick 6's/fumble returns and OSU can't keep the score down.
Even if TP is up all night making love to his ego, OSU has too many horses for Marshall. But I will be cheering for Marshall anyway. I routinely root against OSU. The only reason I don't say I would "never " root for them is that there will be, somewhere down the road, a game where Michigan will benefit if OSU wins. That is the only scenario where I would ever root for OSU.
As the old saying goes, my favorite teams are Michigan and whoever is playing against OSU that week.
It's all a moot point..
Even if TP is up all night making love to his ego, OSU has too many horses for Marshall.
I'm sure Toledo and The Horror would disagree with this moot point.
playing Saturday? I'm confused here. What do you want from me?!?!?
got a herd on
to a patient today and day that I root for B10 teams against ooc opponents. I've gotten so much crap about my hat today, I would love to see them get hammered.
We are Marshall.......at least for tonight.
No one's even mentioned the Towson - Indiana game. Big 10 pride, baby
I cheered for OSU in non-conference games when I was a child. Then I went to a UM-OSU game and saw how OSU fans behaved. Never again.
Conference pride is BS. People in the South say the Big Ten sucks, no matter how many non-conference games the Big Ten wins.
If Marshall wins, I will laugh like an idiot... AFTER we take care of business against UConn.
Normally I would root for the Big Ten team, and even if it's OSU, there is usually a little part of me that wants our conference to succeed. However, with the past two years and "The Horror" constantly being thrown in my face, I want OSU to burn. The entire city of Columbus should be reduced to ashes. I root against all things OSU and hope that they fail at every aspect of life.
I'd rather tOSU is good. All you people that cheer for 0-11 probably also like Michigan scheduling cupcakes like Baby Seal U. Give me 2006 over any other scenario everytime. Where is everyones competitive side?
at the moment, it's been replaced with pure, unbridled hatred. I agree that nothing is better than the two teams being unbeaten when they play. However, lately more than usual, OSU fans have been about as pleasent as a bag of dead babies.
If Michigan wins I'm 70/30 on OSU winning their game in terms of if I'd like them to win or not just for the sake of The Game (and the joy of crushing their hopes and dreams, mwahahah). If Michigan loses I want OSU to lose so I can get some joy out of the weekend. This being a Thursday game makes it a bit tougher, I guess I'll go with 70/30 and hope we beat UConn.
I want OSU to win but to have it be a close game with some sort of controversy.
that beef mercilessly, I say, from beginning to end of the season. If they arrive in A2 with zero confidence, all the better. Football ain't beanbag.
The only time I ever root for OSU is if they are playing ND.
And yes, I'll root for Marshall tonight but it won't make a difference. They're going to get destroyed. This is a team that has lost 45 games the last 6 seasons. They should have stayed in the MAC conference because they're a joke in the "powerful" Conference USA.
Final: OSU-52 Marshall-6
Personally, I feel it's good when the marquise Big Ten teams win their out of conference games. It's good for us.
(I still hate OSU)
I am cheering for Marshall because I am a Michigan fan. I do have friends that are Penn State fans that are all about the big ten. They will root for any big ten team who is playing someone in another conference. I am all about the big ten as well but when it comes to Ohio State i could care less if they win another game ever.
im completely ok with every other big ten team winning, but i get angry every single time osu wins a game. i too hope they go 0-12 while losing by 100 each time. im hoping tonight is a long game with injuries
gotta root for the best conference out there
I won't be rooting for them, but I won't be rooting against them. It'd be good for the B10 to have them kill Marshall, but it'd be extremely funny if they lost. Either way, it's a win-win in my mind.
I want OSU to be 11-0 every year heading into the Michigan game, to make that game as big as humanly possible. At the same time, every time I see them actually playing, I cannot help but root for the other team (with the possible exception of Sparty).
So to answer the OP's question, as I sit here right now I'm rooting for OSU. If I happen to turn on the game tonight, I'll be rooting for Marshall. After the game, I'll be grimly satisfied if OSU wins. I'll be positively giddy if they lose.
feel the exact same way
The pride of Huntington WV!!! FTW
I don't really care. I can't possibly see OSU losing. I would, however, like to see Marshall expose a few weaknesses.
On a side note, WTF is OSU doing playing on a Thursday? This day of the week is for East Carolina and the like. A top 10 program should only play on Saturday. I hope Brandon doesn't go this route.
I don't care if they have no wins or are undefeated, as long as we beat them, I'm happy.
Personally, I hope they lose every game. Screw those classless jerk-offs.
As a M Fan living in Austin TX, I often take the role of a Big Ten fan. I have wanted the Buckeyes to win in the past, and I originally planned to once again pull for them. That is until I got to the bar with friends... One friend brought a Buckeye fan. This guy was
an asshat. I wore a CMU shirt (Fire Up Chips!) and he said "at least you're not a Michigan fan." Dumbass... I tell him that I am and he starts ripping on RichRod, Coach Carr, et. al...
We argued pretty good for a while, but with this guy feeling up his ugly girlfriend, intelligent conversation was one sided. With OSU dominating The Game, all I really had for arguments was speculation since this guy doesn't know anything before 2005. I could barely understand him with Terrele Pryors dick in his mouth all night, so we left at halftime. I will see him again at a wedding, and I hope to god Michigan gives me something to work with.
[email protected] OSU. Fu©k Buckeye fans. Go Blue.
