Who DO you root for on Saturday?
So many complicated questions??
MSU or ND????
OSU vs. Toledo??? (one could only hope)
Obviously we root, root, root for the home team but damn its going to be weird seeing Ron English, Tyrone Wheatley, Kurt Anderson and Steve Szabo on the visitors sideline. I suspect there should be more commentary on the first issue (ND vs. MSU)
Speaking of the EMU game though ---If any of you want ridiculously cheap seats ($50 for a pair of 20ydline,41st row seats) AND an oversized picture autographed by a bunch of former Michigan players including Jarrett Irons and Jarrod Bunch AND get a tax write of letter for contributing to charity at the same time, they're up for grabs here ONLY UNTIL 9pm EST TONIGHT (Monday) http://www.cmarket.com/auction/item/Item.action?id=92353844

ND and Toledo.
I want OSU to have a HORROR of their own. I want ND to be as best as they can be to make our win look better.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:36 PM ^
Second this. But also because I honestly do think ND is a good team and could be entertaining to watch.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:23 PM ^
ND and Toledo. Since I don't live in South Bend I can't see the pain and crying after a loss first hand. Living in Metro Detroit, the tears of the Spartans will be much more visible and enjoyable. Especially as the papers and talk shows backtrack from Cow College "owning the state", and the fall of the Vest's right hand man Saint Dantonio.
I'm kind of like the Dementors in the Harry Potter books (sorry but I have kids!), only I like to feed on the dissapointment and angst of Spartoons and Butteyes.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:32 PM ^
Never, ever root for Notre Dame.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:33 PM ^
I tend to want them to win out until the Michigan game so we can put a beat down on them. Granted, hasn't happened in a while, but a man can hope.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:38 PM ^
I mean, OSU losing to Toledo would be special. I have taken way too much crap for our losses (including Toledo) the past couple of years not to be forgiven for wanting this one. "God, please make it ND over MSU and Toledo over OSU on Saturday. And, if I am really good this week, can you make 'em last minute heartbreakers?"
September 15th, 2009 at 9:56 AM ^
But I'm pretty sure we'll still be allowed to put a beat down on them regardless of their record at the time.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:35 PM ^
MSU. I would rather beat a 2-1 MSU team than a 1-2 MSU team.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:39 PM ^
So if Michigan State is 2-2 after we beat them, you'll revel in the boost to our schedule?
I'd love for state to be 1-3 after we take them down, especially after all of the press and crap this past year.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:51 PM ^
yes. i want to beat teams with good records. i for one don't root against teams. I want michigan to win out and the big ten to look good. if the big ten looks good and michigan wins out, we look even better. i care about michigan and the b10 only.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:35 PM ^
i want notre dame to beat msu and beat southern cal so it makes us look good and osu look bad!
September 14th, 2009 at 6:36 PM ^
ND...and Toledo
September 14th, 2009 at 6:46 PM ^
... good stuff.
I was on a ND board -- for giggles -- and people were saying that it was the shadow and not the actually shoe that was on the line.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:37 PM ^
Notre Dame and Toledo. O my god. if osu ends up 1-2 after 3 games i would shit.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:37 PM ^
Go to the Volleyball game next door at Crisler, we're playing Oregon State, watch Lexi and JuPaz kill Beavers.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:44 PM ^
killing beaver???
September 14th, 2009 at 7:47 PM ^
Hopefully they blow them out.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:54 PM ^
++ for mentioning volleyball. OS shouldn't be too tough. They finished last year in the 80s as far as RPI. That said, the Beavers in spandex are looking pretty good this year. They're 7-2, but missing any impressive wins. They took Wisconsin to 5, but that doesn't tell us enough.
JuPaz has 26 aces this season, that's 12 ahead of the next BigTen player. She (and Megan Bower) are definitely worth seeing live though.

ND and Toledo.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:39 PM ^
I just love the idea that either Sparty or the Domers will be sitting at 1-2 saying WTF just happened?
That being said, I would much rather see ND lose that game. Sparty will get their fair share of losses and end up in a mediocre bowl game at best. If they played OSU this year they would be in really big trouble.
ND is still going to try and squeeze into a BCS bowl with their shitty schedule. If they lose to state, and obviously to USC, they will have almost no shot at the BCS and I will laugh happily. The only bad thing about that is that we will probably not get to see the front-butt stalking the sidelines next year.
OSU needs to lose to Toledo. But it won't happen, or at least I'll tell myself that until it actually does. I want OSU to go 0-12 every year until the state implodes into a black hole.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:40 PM ^
for the rockets just because i always want to see osu lose. as for the ND/msu game. this one is tough. but i'll have to say ND, because i hate msu that much!!! for the last 3 years i worked with a bunch of state grads that just loved to walk around with there chests puffed out after the start of the 07 season and last season. so any thing to shut up sparty nation works for me.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:41 PM ^
MSU and Toledo. MSU will lose it's share of games this season. But ND needs one more to solidify their position outside the BCS.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:43 PM ^
I agree, OSU needs a "The Horror" themselves. As far as MSU goes, i've got no love for them and I especially can't stand their drunkerd looking coach.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:55 PM ^
ND is like the cousin whose the same age as you that you've grown up with and respect, even though you're competitive, and Little Brother is like... little brother. Usually, you'll root for MSU, because he is your little brother. But lately, little brother has been getting too big a head, and he needs to get smacked down into his place by Big Cousin.
EDIT: Oh yeah, in the other game, I hope that a hole opens up in the Earth and swallows the entire state of Ohio during the game.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:59 PM ^
ND and Toledo... I think ND is going to be too much for State with their offense. Hard to imagine Cousins and co. keeping up with the Domers based on what ND has done so far.
The Toledo bid is just a wing and a prayer. Can't imagine OSU dropping that one to the Rockets but you can always hope. Tressell seems reluctant to cut Pryor lose, so maybe that'll leave the door open for Toledo but I doubt it.
Starting in 2010, I'd really like to see the Big 10 regain it's swagger, but for this year I just want to see M regain the top level in the B10 and win alot. Winning is so cathartic.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:05 PM ^
It's absolutely in our best interests for ND to win. We've beaten them, so we want to see them look good - it makes us look good in turn for beating them. In addition, we don't want them to fire Weis. He's not that good of a coach, and we can't be assured that they'll screw up another hire (especially with Brian Kelly rumored to be interested). If they make a BCS bowl, hey, good for them. And if they have a good enough season, maybe Clausen will go pro, so we won't have to face that lethal passing game again next season.
Meanwhile, it's in our best interests - especially after last year - for MSU to be as bad as possible, to shatter their illusions of "taking over the state." It would be great if they nosedived and had a losing season. That would destroy the Dantonio hype. And since we've got to play them soon, it makes sense to want them to lose their next two games (ND and Wisconsin) and come into the game against us in disarray. Common sense says that it's easier to beat a struggling team than a surging, confident one.
(Oh yeah, and I'll root for Toledo over OSU. But that's just not happening.)
September 14th, 2009 at 7:07 PM ^
That would be ND in the first game. If they lose to MSU, that win last week looks a lot less impressive to the people who decide our ranking.
OSU vs. Toledo: Well, as much as I'd enjoy the schadenfreude of OSU losing again, I kind of want them to win out until we play them, just so we can humiliate them like we did in the Cooper days!
September 14th, 2009 at 7:15 PM ^
Keeping ND as a quality win is good so they should win through (although SC should waste them). Plus, always down with State getting softened up. I don't want a good game with them, I want to put them back in their place. They tend to fold up after a few losses so hopefully ND will break their spirits.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:17 PM ^
I would root for MSU over ND but these days, man, hell no. Those punks are way too smug and need a solid ass-whuppin. I want to see a fired-up, marauding crusader army takin' out those heathen Greek peasants!
Yeah and Toledo, obviously.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:17 PM ^
Swine Flu and Toledo.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:35 PM ^
Ok, going against popular opinion b/c if ND loses it should get the dominos falling in South Bend. Weis will get fired, Clausen and others will bolt, we have an easier game next year. Make sense? If OSU wins (as they should) Tressel will feel comfortable that all is still well in his world of old school play calling - giving us a better chance of victory. The last thing Michigan needs is Tressel going wacko and tearing up his dusty playbook in favor of something that would actually suit Pryor's talents.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:44 PM ^
What if Weis is fired and ND then hires Brian Kelly? Maybe they'll lose Clausen but that's only a short-term benefit.
As for OSU, I don't think it's likely Tressel has an epiphany this late in his career.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:01 PM ^
Gotta go ND, it would only help our SOS. And of course Toledo.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:13 PM ^
You have to pull for ND in this one, we have much more to gain if ND wins. If MSU wins it just confirms the fact that 1 suspect team(already lost to CMU) beat another(ND becomes suspect for losing to a team that lost to a MAC team), we have no credibility at all is MSU wins the game. On the other hand, if ND wins(by a large amount hopefully), it simply establishes the fact that M beat a worthy and ranked opponent, and confirms the fact that we're back.
Toledo for reasons that simply don't need to be mentioned.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:32 PM ^
ND. They need to win out except for USC and one of their tasty cupcakes. My fear is that if we are crazy good and end up with the same record as ND, they will be able to work the BCS magic.
Of critical importance they need to save Charlie's ass.
Toledo. For the reasons mentioned above.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:38 PM ^
Sparty (refer to Brian's Facebook page: "Nasty Irishes!, We Hates Them!, Hates Them!").
Toledo: To paraphrase Brian's Facebook page: Nasty Nasty Buckeyes, We Hates Them More!, Hates Them More!"
September 14th, 2009 at 9:58 PM ^
I Hate ND. I usually want ND to lose every game, even scrimmages, Quiz Bowl, Checkers you name it. However, I am sick of the cess flowing outta the Red Cedar this year. I am sick of the apparent Disinformation, Apparent rumor-mongering, Negative Recruiting tactics, and The Lansing Spin. A Customary Colossal Spartan Flop and Fold, and a return to Normalcy of interstate UM dominance in Football & Recruiting, followed by a BIg UM Victory October 3 in Lansing, then UM Hoops victories on a continual basis over MSU would be PERFECT.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 PM ^
One of my good friends is an irish fan so ill root for them against sparty, and i would rather us beat a really good ND team than a sub-par only good in the B10 team like sparty. And quite frankly ill give jimmah a +1 for being classy at the end of the game.
