Mount St. Mary's hired a private equity CEO to be their president. You'll never guess what happened next.
I'm pretty expensive...
Plus all the bikini clad woman strewn across your office would be a huge distraction to the players.
That's what she said....
Sorry I spelt your name wrong epic fail on my part.
Haha, you also spelded something else wrong.
Don't yew get the joke.. I guess not....
Don't flatter yourself. He clearly said Mangus.
It was him or Muschamp...
"I...WANT...MY...kid's shampoo. With no attitude, do it NOW!
Um, who the fuck is Mangus?
at first, but I couldn't remeber his name. He would definitely help us recruiting the west coast. If not him maybe someone with recruiting ties to the south.
Could get a LB coach, according to Sam Webb. Also preferably young and black.
Roy Manning, Cato June, Dhani Jones, or go for it all and get Charles Woodson
OK, now you're just spitting out the names of the most famous Michigan defensive players. You're drunk, Jack.
Screw it. Find someone named, Jack Daniels!
He'd probably do it for free.. heck he's probably already been doing it.
but he'll damned well sure ride his scooter here.
First question: do we really need one with hoke being a DL guy?
Second: who is the guy that can recruit to USC amid a terrible coach and sanctions? I understand the weather/women, but he's good...whoever he is.
Third: if its not money, get the guy ole miss used this year...he did a pretty good job. Unless its the Benjamin's that brought those guys in, then stay south.
Fourth: me. I'd love to spread the gospel of Michigan athletics to everyone that would/wouldn't listen. Free trips? Yes! But I'm sure my wife wouldn't agree.
Jack Daniels, I like the Dhani Jones choice. How can you say no to that guy? But he would never do it. He's making good money and traveling.
Did you just self-reply?
Ed Orgeron is the USC DL coach you're referring to.
want his tactics/ethics recruiting for us. He fits fine with Lane.
As involved as Hoke is with the DL (and even Mattison), they still need a position coach who can spend more time with the DL. Hoke and Mattison have other responsibilities, too. Or, per Sam Webb, find an OLB coach so Mattison can spend more time with the DL.
Dhani Jones would be a recruiting maniac, but he's too busy being on TV and selling bowties, which sounds like a little more fun than chillin in northern Ohio with high school kids.
He knows a thing or two about defense.
We need someone who can recruit then coach.
That is all.
Trgovac. Morrison. Jermaine Gonzales.
Is Ed Orgeron dirty? If it's true that the coaches don't want another DL coach, then we could probably get a stud on the recruiting trail.
Yes, he's dirty and I want that bastard nowhere near AA.
I wouldn't mind someone with some southern roots
maybe Brady Hoke will start personally recruiting?
say Glen Steele or Rob Renes. Bring back the white neck rolls and half length jerseys too.
We could try to pull Shaq away from LSU.
For a moment I thought you were recommending Shaq Wiggins...he's the only Shaq I recognize these days.
That would depend on if its an in-home or phone call I'm assuming, no?
Don't be a dick man. She's dead.
I would not be surprised if the plan is to bring back Erik Campbell. We don't necessarily need a dedicated DL coach with Hoke and Mattison around.
And have only 3 full time defensive coaches? Insane.
Besides, Soup took a job with Montreal of the CFL.
There's nothing unusual about that, especially when your head coach is a defensive guy. Under Carr we always had three - one DL coach, one LB coach and one secondary coach.
Also, CFL jobs may not be nearly as lucrative as you think. Montgomery made $200K last season. I doubt Campbell's contract with the Als pays him that much.
I think the bigger barrier to bringing back Soup is, then what do you do with Hecklinski? You can't move him to running backs, obviously. O-Line has Funk. Hecklinski has been a QB coach in the past, but I don't get the sense that Borges would be interested in letting someone else coach his QBs. Otherwise you could put Hecklinski on Tight Ends and make Ferrigno special teams only, which might be a good way to go,
Still, it seems preferable to just hire another defensive coach.
Both Hoke and Mattison oversee the D-Line. We'll be fine with whoever we get, and I doubt Brandon will have an issue opening up his pocketbooks to get the best.
I hope we go after some NFL talent or someone with southern ties. Someone who is a recruiting guru.
That's what I think too. Add an amzing recruiter to the already stellar coaching staff and we'll be set.
Dick Bumpas or Chris Kiffin would be nice. It would cost us, but it'd be worth it. I guess Tosh would also be a stellar haul as a recruiter, if we could find a way to keep him.
Doesn't Mattison have his roots as a DLine coach, in addition to Hoke? Do you have any insight on why Montgomery left UM for OU? More money, allegiance to Stoops, proximity to beaches (I kid)... I was just curious on why he would leave UM when they are on the up...
It's been reported that Michigan countered with a "competitive package", so doesn't sound like it was money. Even though they both went to Iowa, they didn't overlap so not clear there would be some sort of allegiance there. Must have felt it was a better opportunity for him. With both Hoke and Mattison as DL coaches it's always possible he felt like he didn't have complete autonomy, too, but that's speculation on my part.
Thanks... I appreciate the input and answers!
With Hoke and Mattison both D-Line guys and personally coaching the D-Line as well, I think Montgomery just wanted to go somewhere where he could have more authority. Can't say I blame him.
Hopefully he doesn't mean Danny Hope.
We hired Danny Hope? Is his stache also coming to Ann Arbor?
Recruiting specialist...make it happen Dave.
If Hoke decides to hire a new dline coach is Ted Gill out of the question? He needs a job, has ties with Hoke at Ball st, has coached some pretty good d lines at MSU. Only knock people could say is MSU fired him but Mark is a genius, said no one ever.
Ray Lewis. Don't party with him.
Based on Hoke's track record with staff decisions, I am confident that he will make an excellent hire.
Glen Steele anyone?
I knew Glen Steele in college. He was a terrific player and would probably make an effective coach, but he doesn't have the personality of a born recruiter. Plus, I don't really know what he's up to these days. So, whether he is a plausible candidate kind of depends on what you want out of a new hire.
Van Bergen? He's got the personality and energy to be a great recruiter, a love for Michigan, and I don't think he's currently on an NFL roster. Hell, as long as I'm throwing darts at a dartboard while blindfolded, why not Kovacs?..or Roundtree?
Maybe after a few years in the NFL. From my understanding Van Bergen is committed to making a run at the pros for as long as he can.
seems a more typical route to coaching staff.
(ohio did well with moving fickel through the ranks from ga to dc and vrabel went directly to coaching staff from nfl)
My name is Charles Woodson would you like to see my hardware?
If he doesn't get drafted, I'm recommending Denard he can coach being awesome.
Denard will get drafted.
I know we all hate rumors but I heard that................
The answer is obvious: Lloyd Brady.
If I recall correctly before the hiring of Montgomery was announced, Brian's ideal candidate was Beyonce.
Is Jay-Z also coming? Oh wait, package deals rarely pan out.
Does anyone know how this has affected Bryan Mone? Would think it might discourage him some possibly.
As for who we are going to hire next.. I think it's going to be another linebacker coach specifically for the strongside. If the indications of Mattison moving down to the D-line with Hoke are true then it only makes sense. Can't wait to find out who it will be and hopefully they can find someone quickly.
Right after posting the bryan mone question I had a guy close to the situation tell me that the Montgomery to Oklahomawill not be effecting Bryan at all and he is committed to The University of Michigan til' the end!!!!
Very good news
Thanks for the Mone update.
I was curious about that situation as well. I'm pretty excited about him
She can teach the DL how to use their hands.
That's not funny.....
A natural fit.
We need someone asap. Huge recruiting weekend and we need to make a splash to keep all the top targets interested. I know Coach Hoke and Mattison are still holding their own but we need a younger guy like Montgomery who can relate just a little bit better. No matter what this is Michigan and that will sell itself.
What's Hoke's brother up to now?
Let's hire away newly hired DL sparty coach Ron Burton... Nah, what the heck was I thinking.
He was at Air Force. Had a rep as a decent technician but was not know for being involved in recruiting. Also was a holdover from DeBerry's staff, I'm not exactly shaking in fear over this hire by MSU.
recruiting is always a key part of the job.
mattison remains a great recruiter but men in their 60s may have limited stamina and patience for pursuing the commitment of 15-18 year old boys.
hoke and mattison have the d-line technique, teaching and motivation under control.
I for one would be in favor of seeing Jim Herrmann comeback as a linebacker coach and having Mattison mover to DL coach. Just think about the attention Michigan will get from recruits with 2 former NFL coaches.
No. As much as I hate to admit it, Mattison will eventually have to retire and I don't want Jim Herrmann around when that happens.
Since most head coaches, like AD's have unofficial "lists" of future replacements, I would imagine that Hoke has already made a few phone calls. Whoever it is, I'm pretty sure the sky isn't going to fall over the departure of one coach.
As usual, I'm going to trust Brady Hoke to bring the right coach in.
Jim Boccher is doing these days
Who can we steal from Purdue?
All of this talk about a LB coach..... what then happens with current LB coach Mark Smith? Has he only been coaching the middle LBs anyway?
From the sounds of it, it's going to be someone to coach the outside LBs. I assume they will go with someone young who can be primarily a good recruiter.
why dont we just hire the d-line manager? heard hes been there since Hokes been there and knows his football. did he graduate? can he recruit? lol!
