MSU - no contest. The Olympics are fun and all but come on, nothing beats Michigan sports.
February 28th, 2010 at 6:26 PM ^
Michigan vs. MSU. Olympics are great, but I can't react rationally to Michigan losses--even after the past two years.
February 28th, 2010 at 6:28 PM ^
John Shuster losing all those curling matches for us
Thanks to his mic, his general douchebaggery became all too apparent and I found it increasingly difficult to root for USA in curling.
February 28th, 2010 at 6:30 PM ^
I'd rather just not think about either of them ever again
February 28th, 2010 at 6:30 PM ^
Olympics. That was game seven stanley cup finals intense today. Only thing I can take away from it is that USA wasn't even supposed to medal. Definitly close though.
February 28th, 2010 at 6:31 PM ^
Tomorrow I'll be over this game. I'm still pissed about MSU. And always will be.
MAYBE if it wasn't the pros it might come close (Miracle on Ice is as big as a Michigan victory), but NHL vs. NHL? Nah.
We were at each other's throats all week here after MSU. This week we'll just be negging Clarkie endlessly. ;-)
February 28th, 2010 at 6:31 PM ^
Not just the MSU game, each one of the 7 losses last year left me with a worse feeling than I have now
February 28th, 2010 at 6:48 PM ^
It's kind of ery how similar it is. Came back from 2 TDs/goals against a rival north of us in the final seconds only to lose in OT.
February 28th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
Yes. Very ery indeed.

I'm new to Mgoblog. Why did these comments get -3.
p.s. please don't thumbs down these comments. I want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong or something.
February 28th, 2010 at 9:01 PM ^
"Ery" is spelled "Eerie" or apparently even "Eery"
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/eery
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/eery
So I'm just trying to figure things out here. I got -3 for a silly spelling error, even though everyone knew the word I was spelling. It had nothing to do what I said.
Yes. You have been hit by the grammar and spelling police.
Personally, I would never neg someone for most simple spelling and grammar errors; but as much as the spelling and grammar police are a bunch of self-righteous, distasteful weenies, they do serve the purpose of keeping the boards here from devolving into some form of text message speak.

The dude simply asks what he did wrong in his first post, and people neg him for that? Come on guys.
February 28th, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
makes me sad.
Losing to MSU makes me hate the color green.
Kermit beware!!
February 28th, 2010 at 7:00 PM ^
There is no comparison. I will forget about the hockey game by later on tonight.
When MSU wins in football, they remind you about it for decades. Trust me, they will be gloating about the infamous "two game winning streak" in the year 2030.
February 28th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
no contest. Michigan football, first, last, and always.
February 28th, 2010 at 7:04 PM ^
I am Canadian and if we lost this game, that would have been worse then losing to MSU.
February 28th, 2010 at 7:24 PM ^
The US probably played above their heads and lost in overtime to an amazing collection of hockey talent on Canada's home soil. I'm fine with that. But when Sparty barely beats the two worst UM teams in my lifetime and then start gloating as if they own the rivalry again, that drives me crazy. Go US, and down MSU!
February 28th, 2010 at 7:35 PM ^
does it matter...both just prove one thing: the past two years for my sports teams (detroit local, michigan, usa teams), which have been an utter disaster (with the exception of the wings in 08 and michigan bball last year)...continues.
i do not know what i did to piss off God into hating all my sports teams...but i think i might have to sacrifice a small goat or something to try to turn this around before the stanley cup playoffs and the baseball season...
February 28th, 2010 at 7:47 PM ^
The Wings did better than 28 of the other 29 NHL teams last year. The U.S. did better than all but one other country in the Olympics (which is better than expected). Yeah, it's been a terrible year for U-M, but you can't throw these two teams in there.
February 28th, 2010 at 8:22 PM ^
when i say disaster, i mean painful or bad. look, i love the wings...but losing game 7 at home to pittsburgh, yes that is a disaster and painful. this was a painful loss regardless if they exceeded expectations or not. i guess i should make clear that i include painful as an aspect of a disaster in my opinion.
February 28th, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
I'm sorry, but Wing fans (and I am one) sound like spoiled brats when they bitch over losing a Stanley Cup Final. Dude, we've only won four Stanley Cups in the past 13 years.
One of my best friends is from Toronto, and he'd kill to see the Leafs just make the Cup Final once, let alone win it.
February 28th, 2010 at 10:12 PM ^
No Wings fan should ever complain about anything. We've been more spoiled than perhaps any fan base in major sports for the last ten years.
I assume we are both Michigan fans...would you say we have nothing to bitch over the past couple years? Most Big-10 titles in the conference history, a national title in 97, close to one in 06. the longest bowl streak that reached into the 30's. We lost to MSU twice in a row for the first time since LBJ's Presidency these past two years. Things against OSU are rough now, but we owned them in the 90's. So now that things are going a little rough, are we spoiled brats for being pissed things aren't working out? I have MSU friends that would die for the success we have had on the field, the Rose Bowls, the Big Ten Titles...does that mean we are spoiled brats? Is there no complaining because we had it so good for so long?
I know it is not an exact parallel, but (unless I am making an assumption and that you have NEVER criticized or were negative about Michigan football the past two years) to say I have no right to bitch about what happens with my team is ridiculous. Damn right I am mad that Michigan is awful and damn right I am mad when the Red Wings do not win the cup. Am I lucky with both teams' success over the years...hell yes. but when they hit hard and major disappointing stretches, I am going to say how I feel about it. Is the success awesome? Yes. But for a team as stacked as the Wings were that did not win a cup, damn right I think that is disappointing and put in the context with the rest of my teams the past two years, i am saying it has been a disaster
Hey, as I said, I fully agree that things have sucked for Michigan lately. I just don't think you can bitch about the Wings. No one wins it all every year.
February 28th, 2010 at 7:37 PM ^
MSU game because this was the first game where Tate wasn't 100% after the Indiana game, and having Molk out made a huge difference with all the horrible snaps that caused us at least 3 drives. Not to mention MSU's first joke of a drive where they committed what 2 personal foul penalties and still managed to get a 1st down on 3rd and 300. Then having to listen to MSU fan's how Michigan is a total joke because we lost to them in OT, and that MSU can do no wrong going 6-7 and another shit year. Im so sick of it. If Michigan loses this year at home I don't know if ill be able to take it another year.
The olympics are w/e in the end all the players on every countries team are pro's just about and a lot of people are fans of everyone. Where I just hate MSU all around.

USA Hockey vs. Canada
I love hockey. Really I could care less about football. I live and breath hockey. It is the greatest sport on earth. Today my heart was torn out as that punk Cindy Crosby scored in OT. With that said, congrats to Canada, especially Babs, Yzerman, and Kenny Holland.
February 28th, 2010 at 7:46 PM ^
Beating the folks who invented the game as big underdogs in their own backyard would have been absolutely huge and to come up just short (to a douche like Crosby, no less) was a killer.
On the flipside, losing one football game (or a million of them) doesn't change the fact that we will always be better than MSU at everything.
Canada may be a goofy little country that puts gravy on its french fries, but at least I respect them. Can't say the same for State.
In land mass we are the second biggest country in the world. I appreciate your respect and all, and perhaps by little you are referring to our population.
Also, I am wondering where all the Crosby hate is coming from? I mean, I know he just scored the winning goal in OT against your team and he beat this blogs favorite team in the cup finals last year, but honestly, other than being one of the two best hockey players on the planet what has he done to bring out such anger?
I ask because I know him personally and have always found him to be a nice young man who carries himself well both on and off the ice. He played hockey against my youngest brother growing up both in midget aaa and in the QMJHL. I have had numerous opportunities to speak with him and find him to be a very good person.
I guess I just wonder how sports fans make things so personal. I am not a fan of many of the players on the USA hockey team but I wouldn't say they are douches or insinuate they are homosexuals (nttawwt). I simply am not of fan of theirs and leave it at that. I would just like to know why you make it so personal? Or maybe you know him personally too and have just had different experiences with him than I have.
There was some great Crosby video evidence posted here:
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-whats-4-4-olympic-hockey-overtime
It seems he gets to know a couple other hockey players personally...intimately even.
And the fact that Canada has so few people that you know Crosby says "little". (I kid! I kid! There must at least be one person for every 10,000 miles up there...)
February 28th, 2010 at 7:48 PM ^
Would rather change the result of the MSU game, let's put it that way. USA was playing with house money already. Besides, we're 1-1 against Canada and with a better GD....we just happened to lose the wrong game ;)
February 28th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
losing to an inferior team with a coach that makes me want to punch the tv v. losing to a very good team in an epic battle for a championship (gold medal). Nothing to hang your head about in today's game. Losing to state makes me want to throw up.
February 28th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
The gold medal game was very intense, like a game 7,and I love Olympice hockey, but it's not even close!
February 28th, 2010 at 10:57 PM ^
Definitely the football game, I still get pissed thinking about the end of that game.
February 28th, 2010 at 11:32 PM ^
MSU - UM no doubt.
I don't think there is any doubt either. My guts being ripped out or a slap upside the head. It's Monday and I can move on with the later. It's Monday almost 5 months later and I'm still stuffing my guts back in.
February 28th, 2010 at 11:46 PM ^
Besides, I had predicted USA 3, CAN 2 in OT, so I probably "saved" a good pair of pants by not hitting it on the nose.
Watching the US lose in hockey was painful like when your kid brings home a bad grade on a test. Watching Michigan lose in football is painful like having to go get your kid out of prison because he beat up an old lady.
Watching Michigan lose to MSU in football is painful like having to go see your kid in the hospital because the old lady kicked his ass.
As a Canadian, obviously my take will be different. I have to wonder why you would be so upset about coming in second place in hockey at the olympics?
I know that perceptions change as events unfold, but you guys were picked to come in 6th at the olympics in the hockey tournament. You gave the team that had (on paper) by far the most talent fits for 3.5 periods and very easily could have won that game.
I guess I see how losing in that way is upsetting since it was overtime and everything, but IME the USA has nothing to be upset about in relation to how their hokcey team performed (their entire olympic team for that matter). You had a great olympics. Don't let finishing second place in one event that feature the undisputed top rated team in the world due to an overtime loss negate what the hockey team and all your other atheletes accomplished. The USA did amazing at these olympics!
For me the disappointment comes more from how big the win would have been rather than how painful the loss was. The US played fantastic throughout the tournament, but the difference between a silver earned on the strength of an easy draw (beating the Swiss and Finland doesn't really get the blood boiling) and a gold won by beating Canada (as you said, the world's best team) in Canada would have been enormous.
On the flip side, losing to MSU in football sucks a lot more, but a win gives me essentially zero pleasure and is more a restoration of the natural order than a great triumph.
And to your above post, people dislike Crosby because he appears to act like a spoiled crybaby on a regular basis. Maybe he is a great guy in real life, but clearly I'm not the only one who sees it.

Definitely the MSU game. The silver lining of Canada's win is that you can, on some level, be happy for the country and its joy over its win. It's Canada. And it's hockey. It's what they do, people. And hey, all things considered, they're so nice up there. *waves*
But MSU? No. Is there anything worse than a bunch of gloating Sparty fans?
Definitly Michigan v. MSU
I'm Canadian...
