Which recruit can we not afford to lose

Submitted by Magga Saraivah on

WIth the current instability with both our Coach & AD it is inevitable that our recruits will at least maintain contacts with other schools.  Out of the current 9 recruits which players can we afford to lose the least ?

I actually think 3 are critical:

1) Alex Malzone - we really need a QB especially one who seems to have a genuine love for Michigan and has done nothing but win championships at Brother Rice.

2) Grant Newsome - OL depth is critical.  We all have learned what can happen when we whiff even a single year at this position.

3) Brian Cole - We need dynamic playmakers and we need to keep him away from Sparty.

Who knows which of our current players will take a great leap forward with a new coach and cause a reshuffling of priorities. Uh, Bellomy not so much but others, yes.  Still find the Harbaugh wish a very long shot but I'll take any coach who would swag into the Horseshoe lookin' to kick butt.

It's amazing how easily people write off Shane Morris when Devin Gardner could've starred in the Benny Hill Show at the same point in his career with his performance against Michigan State. Not to mention Morris missed his entire Senior year of high school. Does he not qualify for the age excuse that everyone else is granted?

are when articles have been printed that say other "top QB recruits" shouldn't be scared off from visiting UM because Shane is not that good. I don't think anybody has seen enough one way or another to completely disqualify him from starting next year. The job will be his to lose, and if he does lose out to either Speight or Malzone, what a huge whiff this was! That being said, Malzone is a must keep!

so it's odd that I know more about who we had now than then. Anyway, I've already stated that this recruiting class is the least of my worries concerning UM football right now. As I've before said and noted above, a home run hire easily fills this class with talent if hired by the New year. A "meh" hire still fills it but not the same quality. That said, Newsome and TK both stated after Minnesota that "I'm Michigan no matter what. I committed to the university, not the coach". Now, TK is looking. Hope Newsome stays. I'd say we can't lose Newsome, Cole & Malzone. Two would likely go to msu and both will be studs with just adequate coaching and they'd get it at msu. Alex & Brian are just studs. Yet, the improbable Harbaugh hire would likely see a big-time QB switch to us anyway. I guess the crap silver lining to our troubles is the tiny class size this year. We'll get the numbers, the quality is the factor. For those in the fold but in limbo, I'd say those 3 listed. Actually, add Weber to the list. He's maybe the best HB in the country, IMO.

that will make any difference whatsoever in the long run.

The program, the team-the team-the team, is far more important than any single recruit.

Frankly, I find the obsession with the whims of 17 year old high school students not merely baffling, but more than a little creepy.

malzone all day.

not only that, i feel like we should take 2 QBs based on what I saw this year out of our backup QBs.  im not confident we are going to be good at the QB position anytime soon and the more we bring in the better the odds we have of hitting the jackpot.

It will be fine when Jim is back in AA. He will be able to save this class, if not generate a better class by the time NSD rolls around.

I know people are really skeptical on him coming back, mostly r/t brandon...but his ass is grass now.

Jim Harbaugh loves this university, he loves Michigan football. I would bet my salary that watching the MSU/OSU games these past few years have pushed him to the brink of insanity. I wouldn't be surprised if he is chomping at the bit to get out of San Fran and come back home to beat the absolute hell out of dantonio and urban meyer like he did carroll and kelly. When you play for a team, win for a team, bleed for a school I dont care what your job/situation is...you find a way to revive that which you sacrificed so much for...because you love it.

He will be back, swear.

There's enough talent on the team now for a coach like JH to make them a lot better pretty fast.  Thankfully there's a relatively full roster and this is a small class.  If the right coach comes recruiting won't be an issue.

Clint Trickett should be our QB at this moment!

They refused to offer him a chance to start...went to WVU...smh

Considering the development of players in the program has been sporadic and minimal at best. While I am sure your post was written with the underlying assumption that the new coaching staff will be MUCH better in this dept. than it's predecessor, I'll believe it when I see it....

With this in consideration, "I'll take the higher rated recruits -- combined with the position of greatest need for $500, Alex."
