Which MGoBloggers have disappeared that you would like to see come back?
Irish has been a ghost for awhile now.
T.Pryor was one of my favorites.
T. Pryor was one of my favorites as we.. I believe it was while tatgate was going down that he posted somewhere around 20 times in 3 different threads. Everything he said was gold. He may no longer post on the MGoBoard, but he will forever live in my heart.
I'm not sure I've ever laughed harder on MGoBlog than I did in those threads. Maybe a couple of the photoshop threads, but still, T. Pryor was delightful.
I was half expecting to come back to this thread and see a post from T.Pryor that said, "WHAAAAAT???"
You are the Christopher Walken of MGoBlog. Slightly creepy, sometimes funny, always an enigma.
I resemble that remark.
King of Belch.
I miss that one guy who had the same avatar as me, same footer as me, about the same number of points, but a different name. I agreed with most of what he said, though sometimes he tried too hard to be funny... oh well.
Everything he said seemed redundant.
A little more than member but still...
I don't think I've seen anyone so proudly say "E-S-P-N" though. I'm very happy our all-world recruiting guru landed on his feet and is seemingly very happy (was his contract in chocolate cake?).
But I miss him.
The high school coach--I think his username started with an S(?). He left when the RichRod experience reached a head, but had good posts.
I think his name was Gene Simmons? I know his last name was Simmons, but I'm not 100% on the first name.
Close! It was gsimmons85
Riiight. From what I remember, he had terrible grammar and spelling, but once you decoded his posts they were very informative.
He took a head coaching job, so I don't think he has the time to post anymore.
Steve Sharik too. I haven't seen him in a while. Good poster.
Always very helpful when breaking down plays, alignments or designs.
Sharik (ck?). I also think that he was a bartender at cottage inn when he was a student.
TomVH. End of my list.
But not for the reason you think.
This. Also, Craven Morehead and his collection of inappropriate pictures.
He's still here.
edit: no, I meant emo. Apparently I've been mixing the two up for the last couple months now, don't know how that's possible.
Who is this guy McFarlin everyone keeps talking about?
Blue in South Bend used to have a lot of funny or witty posts. I believe he is a mod now?
That was such a great set up...The scene in that same episode where Tobias gives his "John Wayne" talk and then erupts when he can't find his hard boiled eggs is one of the funniest of series to me.
Nothing beats the clip of Buster doing his Chicago dance, than grabbing the lightsaber and knocking the head off the mannequin.
Was that a Snoopy reference?
That doghouse has a flat roof. You should try sleeping on the apex of a pointy roof sometime.
Or for that matter, try shooting down a squadron of German Fokkers while flying that inherently unaerodynamic house. Then come talk to me.
EDIT: also, my helmet has wings.
you were never funny, in fact you were and still are, an ass!
em0 lied. He said he would never leave us.
I'm always weary when spring ball rolls around that I will log into mgoblog and see a depth chart thread.
I have to admit they made for good discussions at first, but then he got out of hand.
...were legendary; like three years in advance, it seemed. I could totally see him coming on here tomorrow to post a 2015 depth chart, then getting upset when people ripped him for it. "Dude, what are we going to do at QB once Shane Morris graduates? Do we have a plan for that?"
The Other Brian
one of my favorite posters on here as well. Shame he hasn't been around for a while. KOB was a favorite as well. I guess he finally ran out of user names.
For sure. i really enjoyed his insight especially around recruiting...
King of Belch
steve sharik was a defensive genius
King of Belch was a welcome court jester, IMO
TVH, MgoShoe, Misopogan, THE_KNOWLDEGE
Misopogan is Seth now.
Not sure if serious about Misopogon...
MGoShoe is back.
THE_KNOWLEDGE is still here, to the best of MY_KNOWLEDGE.
He was last seen on the TWENTY-FIRST of December to announce the winner of THE QUESTION, the TOP FRIEND, and the horribly vacant CO-SOARER
However, THE KNOWLEDGE did not make his promised SUGAR BOWL post. Thus, he has been AWOL for about a month and a half now, which is not enough to make the disappearence of such an illustrious figure a concern yet
The original "THE KNOWLEDGE" had no underscore. The original one posted far more often and seemed to really take it personally if you didn't believe his predictions (like Steve Sarkisian to replace Lloyd Carr).
I suspect "THE_KNOWLEDGE" is just some other poster spoofing the original.
For me, WolvinLA1.
But not WolvinLA. That guy was a douche.
I almost feel like I should duck while saying this, but... Dex. I know he's moved onto greener pastures (and unicorns) but, while sometimes polarizing, he was hilarious.
Dex was a rad dude, and a very very good writer. I look forward to the one or two times a year he posts something at the WLA
I just don't see much from that guy anymore...usually had interesting things to say.
In all seriousness, Big Boutros...I dont remember if he was that good of a poster, but had a funny avatar that fit his name perfectly
That is who I was thinking of as well.
To the other poster bringing up mgoshoe he is still here just not as much. See the Act of Valor thread.
Agree 100% about Big Boutros. I'm a married man and yet could not pass a post without staring at the avatar for a few seconds.
but it's a lot less frequent than it used to be. I'd say TomVH and Tim as well. I like to think they come lurk, but probably have stipulations in their contracts about participating here.
I also think that the_Knowledge might just be a pseudonym that Brian uses because he thinks the original was so funny
wolverine318, he was a cool dude.
His avatar was awesome.
Hmm. Professor X joined up right when Wolverine318 disappeared...
WHY DIDN'T YOU PUT "META" IN THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD?!?!?!?!
I miss Dex. And MGoObes. And G_Simmons or whatever his handle was.
Did he graduate or something? I still say he was one of the players... GUY KNEW IT ALLLLLLL.
Nah, he didn't even go to Michigan. He was just an avid reader of Scout, from what I gather.
If he made you promise not to rat him out, just say so Magnus. Don't patronize us.
He made me promise not to tell you that he's actually Martavious Odoms.
Speaking of Lego Martavious Odoms, I've been dragging my feet with the realization that it may very well be time to retire the Lego avatar.
But then what? I still have a Lego Vince, a Lego Roh and Lego Denard somewhere... or should we go with something a little more Blockham, if you know what I mean...?
You should use all the family members and rotate every couple of months. Start with Bonnie when she woke up in the middle of the night after the bowl victory. My wife laughed so hard at that one when I showed her b/c our son pulled the same thing that night.
If you make me a Lego Kate Upton, I promise I'll make it my avatar.
Make mine a Lego Miranda Kerr, please.
But not for the reason you think . . .
Classic. Obes was so "in the know - underground - cooler than you" he was great. He was like Magnus & aaamichfan's lovechild.
There was something ever so comforting about an Obes post. It's like we'd be having our biweekly meltdown over something or other and Obes would say something very calming to make the latest crisis much less crisis-y.
I miss jhackney and his nuclear explosions.
HARD EDGE WEEK! Yes I miss jhackney as well.
I miss the late night threads that he used to create. Being the the west coast those late night threads were perfect for me.
Thirded or fourthed or whatever.....Sure do miss seeing those nuclear (nucleer) blasts and especially the one with Slim Pickens riding the big one down on Roossia from "Dr. Strangelove!"
A'freakin men. He kinda disapeared after Rich Rod was fired. Too bad I miss the nuclear explosions.
He'd be my number one pick. He was still doing his wacked out diaries once a week during the season. But those late night threads were often due to some extra free time, and I think he got a job in Michigan that had him moving from Pittsburgh, and duh, working, so the free time went away. But the bowl season wasn't the same without him. Thank God we were at least in a bowl to distract from the pain.
King of Belch and his many incarnates, and the Big triplets: Big Boutros, Big Redacted, and Big House 500th. Big Redacted was in need of a hug, some Xanax or both. Steve Sharik; he was the reason I joined the blog in the first place. I entered a state of MGodepression when jhackney and 'Shoe disappeared.
"Roll Damn Tide, you ain't goin' nowhere. Step back from the fence!" *racks shotgun*.
Easily the dude I miss the most. When I first arrived he was one of the first who actually realized I existed, so I took notice to that for sure.... But the guy had a great delivery that was both hilarious and intelligent at the same time.
BCRE is no longer among us. His haterism will be missed by some. Not many, mind you... but some.
Did he leave of his own accord, or was he booted? When he wasn't ranting about something, he usually had good insights on things.
...by someone well above me on the food chain. He seemed like a bright and articulate guy or girl (okay, guy), but his constant Drew Sharp-ness finally wore out his welcome.
Was this recent? I feel like I've seen a post of his in the last week...or is that BRCE?
Typo. I meant BRCE. And yep, it was last week I believe.
I think if we're going to keep this post-moderating system, we should at least change the karma values to 2, 1, and BRCE in honor of the guy who could always be counted on to have grayed-out posts.
That dude loved trolling. His work during the Tigers' playoff run was just too much. He would be all over a thread if they were losing, but when they won or looked good there was not a post to be found.
You're in the legal profession, no? In that case, you should know that the key to success in corporate America is stealing the credit when someone else does something good. AKA this. Just let us surmise that you were the one to give him the boot next time
KuaiGirl.... or is that too old school? ;-)
WolvinLA1 and Formerlyanonymous was good mod. Jhackney was usually pretty funny too.
WolvinLA1 was just the former handle of WolvinLA2. It's just that the former moniker disappeared for some unknown reason. They're the same guy, though.
Yeah, what happened to FA? I thought he was a mod. Mods aren't supposed to just leave. Mods are forever.
He was just finishing school, working with the Texans, and the dark Board/Blog end of Rich Rod all got to be more trouble than it was worth, so he, you know, found a life.
I may have to look into one of those things one of these days....
I agree with a lot of the other names brought up, but the first one that came to mind was formerlyanonymous.
i'd like to nominate some of the characters that splintered off to form the WLA. big gay heart, anyone? also, i remember great informative posts from gsimms85, who someone mentioned above. and, yeah, dex.
there were some hilarious threads back in the old days, during the coaching search and transition (the other, older one), before the format change of the blog. some ridiculously long and unwieldly threads on drupal (or whatever that platform was called) that would crash.
Yeah. That was fun.
What year/month did it switch from Haloscan?
Summer of 2008, I believe. But I'm not positive.
That sounds about right. That's when I started reading, and I know the switch had already been made.
June 30, 2008 to be exact
And the "joined" date to prove it too. That's a pretty impressive MGoStatus Symbol right there.
We are an elite fraternity*. Don't F with us.
*assumes no ladies have been posting on here for 3+ years. If so, mea culpa, ladies.
6/30/2008 was like christmas day...
Well June 30th IS my birthday afterall so i get why everyone would be fired up over it.......
I can even tell you that it went online sometime around 3-4AM, as I was pulling an all-nighter writing a political philosophy paper and joined as soon as I saw it with the hope that there was some kind of award for being the first to join.
To the fraternity!
Co-ed fraternity? My sister joined June 30, 2008.
or it didn't happen!
what was I doing for those couple of days back in mid '08?
The "Lost Weekend" re-enactment? It's all a blur.
Is this fraternity members only?
I believe that. I think I was reading the blog for 6-9 months before I created an account but I never remember and major format shift other than the great malware disaster(s).
I know the blog got too big for that platform, but those days were all kinds of fun.
Anybody got some screeners from it? Just curious if I remember.
Here's the old site:
I checked the comments on a couple of blog posts and it all seems to be there. A few random things I remember experiencing on Haloscan:
(1) The Horror
(2) The Oregon game the next week
(3) Sam McGuffie's commitment announcement (I have no idea why this sticks with me so much)
Definitely Big Boutros. He was one of the funniest posters on here.
what you were getting from Boutros, that's for sure. That or you had no idea why he was saying what he was saying.
I probably miss sad emo Brian Cook the most.
Nah I miss McFarlin and em0 and.......
I dont' see Shredder Post very often, I always liked that dude.
SethPa was also a good poster.
I miss lots of the old haloscan posters. Not always very on-topic, but the threads were hilarious. Not as easy to know exactly which poster was always the funny one as handle-jacking was a daily occurrence. But those were some funny days - also coincided with the great RR coaching search (for me, anyway), so it could have been as much an artifact of the context too. But to be specific, Dex was an obnoxiously hilarious poster, BigGayHeart (I think?) also used to chime in with some quality posts. Jamiemac was a big part of those threads too and I'm always glad to see one of his posts still.
I guess this makes me one of the minority of mgoblogizens who found the WLA funny.
Edit: and, just like in haloscan days, I'm too late to be relevant - BKbloo and Magnus got here first.
...with that Avatar.
a trusted MGoBlog user!
More like douchey mgoblog user
No Sgt. Wolverine we missed you too.
By the way, who had "douchey mgoblog user" as their signature?
What ever happened to him?
they're pretty much the same thing.
Anyway: I spend most of my time on twitter now. I find that's easier to keep up with.
CPS was a super snarky dude, but he used to be effing hilarious.
with ANY of the above entries.
I read this site a long time before i decided to register and sometimes comment.
I have nothing really interesting to say...but seeing those names of posters that we don't hear from anymore made me realize just how good some of them were.
A part of me died when i saw how badly RR was treated by the school and the people here. We seemed to aquire a bunch of really ignorant and nasty people here and i believe it drove away some posters. This is by far the best sports blog there is as far as Michigan sports goes...but its not nearly as "interesting" or as "classy" as it used to be.
Such is life.
I disagree about this place being less classy. I think it has become more "classy" because of all the mods deleting racist/cruel comments and banning posters. However, I do think some of the interesting posters have been pushed away by the exploding readership and the censorship.
I did stop posting when the readership and commentership exploded. It just got to be too much.
Did you retire your old avatar? I loved that pic.
I still have it, but I find the winged mitten gets a better response.
Loved your old avatar.
0 out of 1 Yoopers like it.
the UP work somehow, but I don't have that kind of skill. I like the UP and wanted to fit it in, but that'll have to left to someone more graphic designy than I. Having the UP just sitting there all blue while the Mitten had wings just made the UP look sad.
around the time of RR's firing and Hoke's hiring was when I first started to notice a good portion of the old guard starting to disappear at much quicker pace.
I feel that a lot has changed here since then. Your point about classy and interesting is most definitely true. The blog has a lot more gossipy/lame/facepalm type posters now, IMHO.
but the whole vibe has seemed to change. Maybe the "free-for-all of idiots" just dilutes the same solid content there has always been too much now.
which posters Brian misses the most.
I'm sure its McFarlin
Which poster Brian misses the least.
(Although he does have a new account)
Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear?
When is right?
Hi MGoFamily! I'm still around, I just spend most of my online time on Twitter. (@MGoJen if you guys are on, too!)
Get ready to be Twitter-stalked like a 16-year-old kid with a 4.4 forty.
Magnus is on a roll today.
MGoJen is back! Yaaayyyyyy! Group hug! Hey! No groping, Blazefire!
I've looked at the MGoHallofFame and I have to think that they're the same person.
Was Mr Mario booted?
I would blow a donkey if it meant Big Boutros would come back
I think that was one of the challenges on last week's "Fear Factor."
No offense to Big Boutros, but that makes one of us.
I remember people more by their avatar than username, and generally don't look at who is posting unless it's something particularly good or bad, but reading these names really brought back memories. It's amazing how many quality people have come (and gone) through these boards, and it's a testament to how special Michigan is, in that it attracts such varied and awesome discussions.
I hope that if I ever stop posting on the MGoBoard, you will all remember me. Not likely, since I doubt that anything I have ever come up with was that great, but I still have the photobomb thread. Woo hoo.
Who are you again?
what a great time to finally get an account and comment... reading this makes me remember why I never bothered. so few with something worthwhile to offer, and i'd rather not go the route of BRCE and the like... looks like i'll just be another damn starfish and the only to know if a difference has been made with me or with another...
When Brian use to post on the message boards from time to time.
Brodie, the_bighouse_500th, clevermichiganreference, the barking sphincter, big boutros, and for old times sake McFarlin.
Made me think of another though...Raback isn't around that much anymore...how can you have a blog meme about a guy who isn't around?
I seem to recall the emo Nick Sheridan avatar making an appearance recently, at least.
How about GoMBlue
...that was my other username, until i used an ill advised 9/11 joke and got the ban Hammer.
lost all my points =(
Also that guy that changed his name like three times and had the avatar of homer with the ohio logo in the scope. His first name was mommatheregoesthatman and then Lupe Fiasco, but after that I forgot what he changed it to.
I know I'm in probably in the minority but I miss Dark Blue. His shtick could definitely get old but I think it was good for the board to have such a reliable curmudgeon.
makes me glad he's gone.
I heard he was reincarnated as Andrew Jackson Jihad, the Dark Blue act got old, I had to switch it up.
I miss MeechiganDan, and Brodie. Of course, I also liked it when Brian visited the boards more often, and Sharik & Gsimmons85 enlightened us on coaching, and Tom VH gave great info on recruits.
But things change. I understand not having the time to live out this obsession with all things Michigan sports related. It still is my favorite website by far.
I'll always remember brodie for his nick sheridan avatar
it was gaga before that.
It seems like Ace has more responsibilities than TomVH did, so I think that takes away from some of his time to roam the board.
I miss □__□
I miss ಠ_ಠ
He was probably the best poster to ever grace this site.
around these parts. I had a good run.
I saw the URL in your sig and sang in my head "Your southeast michigan sports dealer, think sports first". (This won't make sense unless you've seen a thousand of those Ford commercials.)
I sometimes wonder if The_Knowledge and TPryor are, in fact, Brian. (I have no problem with him making up other "characters", fwiw.)
Hey what about that guy that would post pictures from around campus on occasion? I wonder whatever happened to him....:)
ChitownBlue, Dex, Chrisgocomment, chunkstheclown, brodie are the ones who come to mind.
Is Chunkums still around? He did start off the infamous pos-bang!
I'm here, but work has been insane while I've been coaching.
That your above posted response to Bosch was actually in response to the post you answered here.
Where is Chunks the Hobo?
..... anyone who ever had a meltdown back when down votes actually meant something.
It's not that I necessarily want to see him come back, but WTF did Jay go?
He was one of the very first RR critics, IIRC, and took a lot of criticism.
Jay retired about the same time the WLA organized a massive posbang of all of his posts to propel him past Brian on the points ranking. It was fantastic. He could post absolutely anything and it would have 25-30 posbangs on it.
FA, Paul, and Tim
Who was the dude who made a giant butthurt post and was like, "I'm a lawyer. I graduated from Michigan law school. I'm better than you all. Grahhhh!"
I don't miss him, but that was an A+ meltdown.
Promote Rich Rod?
Dude I was reading the Melmet post at Midnight Maize the other day. That is still the best thing I've ever read. Kudos.
His screen name was something like "Michiganlawclassof72graduatedsummacumlaudeand knockdown600kandandyoudont"
I remember that post well. It was hilarious.
Mgrowold had a post like that. I still loath him because of it.
i'm always watching you
I do miss the good Buckeye posters.
without the_underscore. He first showed up on Haloscan IIRC. The first few appearances were priceless.
That guy was hilarious.
But who in the heck is McFarlin? Things I've deduced so far:
1) He was a jackass
2) He posted under different usernames, asking who McFarlin was
3) Brian apparently gave him the banhammer?
Exactly why is he hated so much?
he has his own section and enjoy... the long mcfarlin thread isn't as funny after brian edited it...
Yeah there's definitely some content missing there, as well as the other threads. In any event, thanks for the info.
A surefire sign of McFarlin was a relatively new poster asking who McFarlin is.
Ergo, ChopBlock is the new McFarlin.
King of Belch.
Son of Jorel was a high quality OSU troll in the haloscan days. Used to regale us with stories of his bro-tastic lifestyle
I believe Son of Jorel is actually Andy Katzenmoyer with a ghostwriter.
ShockFX, but I see that you're still posting (first post in about a year?), as it were.
I'd also include CPS, Dex and Big Gay Heart (all mentioned at some point above) as well as Other Chris and Pogue Mahone, both of whom have apparently dropped off the face of the Earth.
MichMike86 for his epic meltdown in the Conway thread.
Bray Bray, and Bluefront 95.
I miss em0's meltdowns.
Were McFarlin and em0 one and the same? I was never sure.
mcfarlin was a teenager if you remember from the famous "mcfarlin loves bull dogs" thread when brian posted link to all of his info and someone found his facebook page... em0 i believe is teacher or works at a school, why i know this is because he started a thread about a rumor he had and didn't want to post it so he told people post their emails and he would email it to you. i was bored so i did a serch on his email and it took me to a schools website... i might still have the email from him...
