Which BT fans travel best?

Submitted by ChicagoB1GRed on
As a new BT fan, I'm curious where UM fans rank themselves and the other schools for attending road games. Which teams get the most consistent support regardless of game importance or attractiveness of venue? Which teams have the most disappointing fans? I think Husker fans expect to see Michigan show up in force in Lincoln, but what's the actual level of interest on your side, will it be a steady must-attend or a short term novelty game that's too far away to attend consistently?

I want to show Nebraska how much more we deserved the 97 title so I'll be there.  Then again I'm doing everything short of selling my soul to the devil (but not short of praying to Greek gods) so that that game will be at the Big House.  I want to see us play Nebraska before I graduate, and 2012 is my only chance.

as it is the University of Michigan just has a large fanbase all over the country. Don't get me wrong i know a lot of people travel from MI to other games but I think it's those that live out of state that take advantage of Michigan playing a school close to them. I live in Indy and there's a whole UM-Indy alumni group that helps go to not only football but basketball games as well here in IN. I'm sure Lincoln though will gets it's fair share of M fans, I saw how many went to the Iowa game last year. Especially with the new draw of Neb in the Big10, a pretty large turn out wouldn't surprise me the slightest.

Wisconsin travels well, but good luck even noticing they are there in Lincoln. You can share the same cheers and colors, but you get the corn and Wisconsin gets the cheese.

all the "cornerstone" teams travel well, because they have large alumni bases and a vast network of bandwagon fans. like, ill say ohio state travels best because i go there, but michigan fans travel well and penn state fans do also, it depends on who you ask, but usually the responder is gonna pick their team. also, the larger the school the more fans they will have available to travel, basic math.

I do not know how many can give you an unbiased opinion here.

Most fans feel their team's "travel best".

To be honest,  most fans from the Big Ten travel well.

Edit: sorry, the original post came across wrong after reading it again.

I did cause like the poster below says red stands out more.

Especially since almost all osu fans wear red over gray.  Michigan fan base is split 65 blue 35 maize which leads to maize specks, and blending of blue into the background.  Also being at the game yes there was alot of buckeye fans but it wasnt nearly as ridiculous as everyone claims it just looked way worse on tv.

I'd say that overall, they were a quarter of the crowd.  Now, that's unquestionably too many, and I'm angry with fans that sold their tickets to OSU fans.  But they didn't take over the stadium.  We still had the homefield advantage, just not as much of one as we could have had.

The thing that surprises me about the ND-Nebraska game is that it was at the beginning of the season.  Why were ND fans giving up on their team en masse before the season even started?

If you're talking about football fanbases, the argument has to be whittled down to: Ohio State, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Iowa.

I live in Minnesota, and each of the last 15 years of the Metrodump, either Wisconsin or Iowa had at least 35,000 seats in the 62,000 seat stadium for the rivalry games versus Minny.

Now, there's a regional as well as economic component working here, because Minneapolis has tons of Iowa and Wisconsin transplants. But it's impressive how they turned the 'Dump into a road game for the Geauxfurs.

I have heard that Big Ten fans as a whole are considered good "travelers" which is one reason why BT bowl games do so well.  I would also think the relative affluence of the alums from many of the BT schools doesn't hurt either.

Now,  that Nebraska's in the league and they get to do some new stadia, the next 10 years will for sure be the Huskers as best traveling fans.

PSU, OSU, Wiscy, and Iowa I believe travel the best.  Also met some great Minnesota fans in the past, they seem to travel a lot better when they feel like they can win in the Big House.

Iowa and Wisconsin are the most consistently good travelers.  They always turn out in droves for bowl games, no matter how crappy.  OSU fans will travel in force IF they're having a good season; if they're underperforming they won't show.  Michigan and PSU are okay, but not quite as good as you might think.  The rest are pretty lousy.
