Based on the praise that I had been hearing about Mike Cox durnig his redshirt year and this past summer, I expected he would be getting some PT this yr and be competing with Shaw for the starting job next yr. But I only recall him getting a carry or two so far this season, and he seems to be behind both Shaw and Vincent Smith on the depth chart. Is he just not that good, is there a health issue, is he not college ready? Has anyone heard anything about this kid recently?
Where is Mike Cox?
But seriously, played briefly early. Likely more a next year opportunity to break out in the Minor role. Though I hope we get the chance to see him this weekend. We need to blow em out.
... Mike Hunt.
I knew a kid named Mike Hunt. He moved to our school district in 7th grade. At one point he was called down to the office over the intercom as will Mike Hunt please report to the office. The secretary quickly realized her mistake and from that point on it was always Michael Hunt to the office. Poor kid.
He was also voted best name for his senior class but his parents called in and had him removed from the award.
There was a kid that went to my middle school named Peter Peterson. I have yet to meet a person with a cooler name. (though I don't know any Mike Hunts)
I had to pull up urban dictionary. Man do I feel stupid.
played basketball in HS with a guy by the name of Harold Zass
Went to college with Andrea Dick who lived on Beaver Lane in Ft. Wayne, IN.
I miss when the Lions had Harry Colon.
I went to high school with a kid named Richard Harder. I would always ask him what the hell his parents were thinking. He never had an answer to that.
I know a guy named Peter Feeler.
I know a kid named Richard Girth. However, in order to avoid the Dick Girth comments, he goes by Josh.
I know where Mike Cox is do you know where York Cox is?
This is a problem called depth.
It's a nice problem to have at a position for a change. I remember the last few minutes of the Eastern game, where I was downright giddy when we gave a preview of that depth.
How many running backs do you all want to see get regular carries?
Brown and Minor are the co-starters. Shaw is the most experienced backup. Everyone wants to see what Vincent Smith can do. Meanwhile, Cox got a couple carries against EMU. Why are people begging for carries for the 5th string running back? I don't see anyone begging to see Bryant Nowicki play tackle or Jack Kennedy to play QB or Dominique Ware to play DT (not seriously, anyway).
Cox might turn out to be pretty good. But he's not playing because he's not better than the other guys.
I kinda do want to see Nowicki play T. He's a big dude
I want to see Jack Kennedy play against OSU: taking a knee on the last play of the game.
True, but apparently we all want to see Ochocinco punt.
That's what he said.
Cox is also a redshirt freshman. His time will come, probably next year when Minor's gone and we need someone to be more of a pounding back than Shaw.
He had 2 nice runs earlier. I want to see Shaw and Smith the most. Will Toussaint be higher on the depth chart than Cox next year?
Is that a serious question?
Isn't Toussaint supposed to be really good? I know he has less experience, but that doesn't necessarily mean he won't be number 3. I guess you think Cox is far better.
I think this is what he's thinking:
Cox has all of 2 carries in college, and we haven't seen Toussaint at all. In other words, nobody has a clue.
On the sideline. He is one to two years away IMO.
Patience is a virtue possess it if you can, seldom found in woman, never found in man.
Does Cox have the size to be a possible FB in the future? M has a nice stable of young RB's with more coming in. Just wondering if he is big enough to be a good FB.
Not now, but he could put it on.
That being said, he's almost certainly a superback. This is Brandon Minor, Jr.
I am excited for what Cox can do in this offense.
OT: Is that Odoms in your avatar?
Yes. He might be my new favorite player. Not because he's amazingly good, but because he plays his ass off.
He's mine, too. Between his block last year in the Minnesota game and his block this year on Denard's 1st TD, I can't help but love the kid.
Third - Last year I was not a fan, but this year I can't help but be (even after trying to be skeptical) - he is a football player through and through. He is up there with Graham in just simply playing his ass off.
but he is great, he is my favorite player and I think he is highly underrated.
Odoms is a complete player. You have to love wide recievers who like to block. Or as Bo would call them, wide blockers.
is right on Cox is built very similar to Minor.
From the two carries he had in the EMU game, he runs with authority just like Minor.
Cox only had 1 or 2 years tops in high school of playing running back, so he had a lot to learn coming in.
Don't worry. When Mike Cox is in the backfield, he looks to penetrate any opening he can find.
Thank you, Walter Payton on Church Chat.
And my God, honestly, we have Carlos Brown and Brandon Minor splitting reps at one and you're worried about Mike Cox getting carries? Find something else to worry about.
+ 1 for Church Chat - that was some good shit back in the day.
Anyone else a little tired of people joking about Cox's name? We're basically mocking one of our own players. And really, we're talking middle-school level humor here.
No way. It's not mocking. It's honoring.
8th grade here I come.
since its midnight i am willing to bet hes in his apartment
In fairness to the last name "Zass", any person with such a surname is going to get the same effect:
Except for when your name ends in "s".
was named Harry Gainus and his son was Richard........
