Where is the heat on Pryor?
Does anyone else think it's complete BS that Pryor is not getting ripped up by the media for his for his comments supporting Vick? The link on ESPN makes the it seem like the only thing that happened was he put "Vick" on his eye black, then buried at the bottom of the story is this little gem of a quote, "Not everybody is the perfect person in the world," Pryor said of Vick. "Everyone does -- kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me. I just feel that people need to give him a chance."
Can you imagine what the Freep would have done if a Michigan player had said this? Let's change history for a moment, and pretend that Pryor had in fact committed to Michigan a year and a half ago. Now fast forward to the present day and after all of the controversy surrounding Michigan, Pryor opens his mouth and says that pretty much everyone kills people. The headline of the Freep the next day would have been, "Anonymous Player Says Rodriguez Murders and Steals." I am just dumbfounded not just by Pryor's comments, but by the complete lack of coverage it is receiving. I didn't hear one mention on Sportscenter and as already stated, the link on ESPN is not even on the home page only on the CFB page, and it only makes reference to his support for Vick. The double standard makes me want to vomit. I don't know what the opposite of a witch hunt is, but that's what Pryor is getting.

Let it go. A teenage kid said something stupid. All TP was doing was giving support to a guy that got a second chance in life and then gave a bad quote.

To be honest, I'm inclined to agree with you. Pryor is a kid who said something dumb. As a kid and an adult, I have said many dumb things. My point was not so much how dumb his comment was, but just that I can't believe how little attention it is getting compared to other stories (i.e. a poorly written and researched story about Michigan's workout hours).

What would the story on TP be? "Teenage says something dumb that isn't true"? I just don't see how it's more then a tiny AP news type story in a paper.
I really think TP's eye black is a non-story so you can't compare to the practice time story.

The quote is so damn silly that I think it is a non-story. He really just said something stupid. That's it. You can't even take that comment literary because there wouldn't be a human race anymore if everyone kills people. There is no other way to interpret the statement other then 'teenager says something boneheaded'.
Now, if he said something like Mike Vick was framed or he never should have gone to jail, maybe a different story.

My point was not so much whether Pryor's comments should be taken literally, or whether I personally think he should be crucified for them, I am just pointing out that if this had been a Michigan player's comments, I think it would have gotten a wee bit more attention. I haven't even seen a story on TV or online pointing out just how funny the quote is, let alone any other form of commenting on his quote.

Well I guess my response is this...
1) A little to angry aren't you? I mean, wow, the all caps is a bit intense over a diary topic isn't it?
2) Can you stay awake at night and dream?
3) I don't really care if you personally don't think it's diary worthy, a lot of people have come on here and commented and Brian posted the Pryor comment's on the main page with thoughts similar to mine. As soon as you are appointed official diary worthy checker than let me know and I'll run possible topics by you. Until then, don't be so full of yourself you can't possibly be that important
4) Posting one quote from one player surely doesn't lead to the inference that I will be posting every quote from everyone, but who needs logic or rational thinking when you have hardly justifiable vehement anger right?
5) I would say a lot of people care what Pryor says, especially when he says something so funny.

In general, anything that's just another post you should put on the board. Something that requires effort you would like to keep around for posterity's sake should be a diary.
There is obviously some self-regulation involved, but can you honestly say that your OP is something that required effort to be kept around for posterity's sake? Or is it more appropriately material for the general MGoBoard? I'm not looking for an answer, and I don't need one. It's for your consideration only.

Take it up with Brian. At the time of the creation, I did not have the ability to create a topic for a post. I had a thought, was curious what other people thought, and wanted to see what other people thought while the topic was still timely and relevant. That's now the format for this website was made. At the end of the day, people need to take it down a notch. Was anyone's day ruined by my making it a diary instead of a board post? No? No loss of limb or life? No? Ok. If I offended anyone by making this a diary instead of waiting for my points to go up and make it a message board post, my deepest apologies.

He's already spoken on the matter, and I quoted him above. After that, it's a matter of self-regulation, as I also mentioned. The onus is on you, not me.
But you pretty much hit on it. You did not have the ability to create new content on MGoBoard. There is a reason for that, as explained in the MGoBoard FAQ sticky. MGoBoard is the default place for posting new topics. Diaries, on the other hand, are reserved for something that requires effort to be kept around for posterity. This is the stated guideline, which you saw when you wrote yours. Unfortunately, some people, yourself included, disregard those guidelines and the diary as a loophole, rather than for its intended use.
Nonetheless, the reason there is no point threshold for diaries (and I believe this could be more clearly stated) is that there are often readers who don't have an account or only sporadically post, but that otherwise have some incredible content to share. Brian purposefully leaves the diaries open to these people so that they may share their content. See for example, Steve Sharik's diaries, or Drexel's diaries or jamiemac's diaries as examples of the standards to which people should strive.
So I put the question to you again, because I don't think you gave it serious consideration the first time: can you honestly say that your OP is something that required effort to be kept around for posterity's sake? And again, it's for your consideration only, because there needs to be some level of self-regulation on your part.

Listen, I am and die hard, DIE HARD Michigan fan. No one loves them boys in blue more than me. I love this site, because Brian's content is amazing and it isn't filled with a bunch of fakers who aren't really Michigan fans (at least I think). Truly, I wasn't trying to piss anyone off I just had a thought to share and only one medium with which to share it. I think people just need to take it easy and get off their high horse. Like I said, this isn't life or death here. People could share there opinions about "Diary Worthy" without being so hostile. If the first guy to suggest my content was not DW had done so in a respectful and less insulting manner, as you did, then I probably would have responded better. But you can't tell me the manner in which he spoke to me was appropriate or necessary. Lets just keep in mind that we are all on the same team here, and there are bigger problems in life than whether you think my content belongs on the diary's or post boards. I'll be more careful in the future as to not offend peoples sensitivities, but honestly, no harm intended and I'm pretty confident no harm done.

to get us, how else is the timing and nature of the anonymous comments posted?
Also, I think it's fine for TP to support Vick, especially seeing that he was only suspended 3 games, and payed his debt to society. However, the point that if this happened at Michigan, RR would have been trashed in the local media, which ESPN would have picked up on.
I don't know how OSU handles their local press, but Michigan should hire that person/ people away to Ann Arbor.

Furthermore, if D Rob did what Pryor did, it would generate columns by Sharp, Rosenberg, and Snyder about how RR recruits "thugs," and each column would regurgitate Justin Boren's "family values" tirade. OSU got a free pass from the NCAA concerning Maurice Clarett, and they are getting a free pass from the press concerning Terelle Pryor.
Even better for Pryor: this is deflecting how badly his team played against Navy on Saturday.

I was surprised as well that there wasn't any push-back on that --- of all the people one feels the need to support, I'm surprised Michael Vick would be on the list... if he were going to make a social statement, you'd think he could do something worthwhile... like 'Darfur' or... well, any number of other things.
I wish I could remember his comment from the Army All American... the Sergeant Major of the Army (?) presented him with something or another after the game, I remember seeing it on TV and thinking (from his comments) that Pryor wasn't too bright (or maybe it was just because he was a high school senior??). (tried to google the comments but no dice :-/)

I mean, it takes a huge leap of faith (and a bizarre leap of faith) to assume this means that he actually kills people, or that he knows Michael Vick kills people, or that he knows Jim Tressel eats babies, or what. It was just a slip of the tongue. It's kind of humorous, yes, but, what are they going to tear him apart for? Saying something stupid? For a lot of sports talk radio hosts, that'd be a difficult high ground to take.

That Michigan fans aren't the only ones who put Michigan at a higher standard, the press does it too. But, you really can't know unless it happens.

This is the reason Pryor was really never coming here. He would have had a hard time making it in to the university.
The pick for B10 offensive player of the year had this stat line against Navy- 14-21, 174 yds with 1 TD & 1 INT
6 Rush, 30 yds, 1 TD. Add 3-12 on third down conversions and Pryor still has to prove to me that is a QB instead of an athlete playing QB.

I heard he would not have qualified without a couple more classes to meet requirements. IMHO, OSU and Pryor played us to make sure no other QB decided to come.

Man, I don't think that stat line is all that bad. IIRC that INT was tipped by the receiver. Easy with the bagging on a young man for being to quick with a response. This episode will make him wiser; being who he is, he should know (or someone should tell him) that if he wears something like that he should have a well thought out statement ready.

Funny how things work out. For all the pain of last year we may be better off in the long run with Forcier, Robinson, and eventually Gardner, than we would have with Pryor

It all comes down to the won-loss record. As long as OSU is winning, this will be dismissed as him being "quirky." But if they lose to USC, the hounds will be out.

I was impressed by the difference between Our QB interviews and osu's. Our players had a beautiful Blue background loaded with Maise. Charmin's background was a group of reporters with microphones in his face. I guess UM's professionalism isn't limited to what we say!
