Where does Nenrska fit?
UM fans,
where do you think Nebraska fits in the BT hierarchy? When we begin conference play (realizing we don't know the schedule yet), where do you see them placing in the 2011 conference standings? How about over the next few years? Are we immediate conference champion contenders, solid 2nd tier, or over rated playing in a BT schedule?

Is that legit? Because I refer to Michigan as UM all the time, and I've seen it that way as long as I can remember. When I see UM, I think Michigan.
Well if your defense continues to play at the level it was playing at at the end of last season and your offense even remotely resembles a compitent offense like it did a few times last year, I wouldn't say a vying for a conference championship is too much of a stretch depending on the divisional breakdowns. I mean, if not for one second, you beat Texas last year and that's no small feat, not to mention the only bad loss was to to Tech.
But maybe I'm just being influenced by the optimism of all the Husker fans I'm surrounded with on a daily basis in Omaha. Whatever the case is, I certainly respect Nebarska, couldn't be more thrilled to have them in the B10, am excited to see UM play them, and look forward to cheering them on against MSU and OSU.
Haha, laughed at that game too, but that wasn't a bad loss, as in, they got beat badly on the score board. That was a result of an anemic offense which I addressed. What I meant earlier was that no one besides TT beat them badly on the scoreboard. That was for sure a "bad" loss in another way though :).
My guess is that you'll be conference championship contenders off of the bat, with the assumed East-West divisional alignment. Right now I'd say your program is probably the third-best in the conference behind Penn State and Ohio State, but if Pelini continues the good work you will pass Penn State too (and we'll pass everybody, but that's not what this is about). Historically, you're around third or fourth. Over the next few years, you'll do very well, but the competition in Big Ten Division X is tougher than the Big Twelve North.

Until PSU gets their QB situation straightened out and Michigan becomes Michigan again, I would put Nebraska second behind OSU. I'm not buying into Iowa or Wiscy being as good as Nebraska is right now, either.
I wish they could start playing in the Big Ten this year.
Program as in recent history and not just this upcoming year.

Just don't fumble the ball 8 times in a game like they did to ISU and they got a great shot.

They have some really good players this year that should return. Im not 100% what class they're in but Crick, Helu, Zach Lee being back from surgery, Pierre Allen, Niles Paul. But I believe most of them graduate after this season.
I'd picture Nebraska in an Iowa-like role, where they are typically good and knock off the champion from time to time, but have trouble winning the conference outright. While Nebraska had a nice season last year, they still have a ways to go before they will win the conference. I fully believe that Pelini can make you guys even better and that he'll stick around for the long haul, but there's several real contenders almost every year in the Big Ten. - and with Wisconsin/Iowa in your division, most likely there will be some fierce competition for the division title.
The Pac 10 equivalent would be Oregon State, except with an actual conference title from time to time. I can't think of a Big 12 equivalent.
Between OSU,PSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan (when we make our inevitable comeback), there should be some solid competition, but since you guys are on the upswing, the games should be quite memorable.
By the way, what's Nebraska's stance on 1994? Splitting the title would have been best, or do you guys think you deserve it all? As irate as some Michigan fans can get about 1997, I'm sure that's nothing compared to how Penn State fans feel about 1994.

I went to a Catholic high school were ties were a part of the dress code. One of my friends had an officially licensed Nebraska tie that he liked to wear often, not because he liked Nebraska, but because the tie contained a typo.

i think that if nebraska's offense improves a little then nebraska will be very good. that defense is nasty already. nebraska will probably step right in and be one of the top 4 or 5 teams in the big10
Zach Lee (NU's quarterback) had strained ligaments in his throwing shoulder, If he would've been healthy they would've had a good offense. Their running game was very good. The offense will only get better the more Cody Green matures.
Based on recent defensive prowess and Bo P.'s (he's not Bo around here!) recruiting ability I think Nebraska will immediately be one of the top four teams in the Big Ten. Home-field advantage will rank right up there with the best in the conference (OSU, PSU, UofM and Wiscy) as will coaching (dynamic and talented). If the conference is split E/W, and Nebraska is placed with Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Northwestern, the Big Red will probably be a division championship contender year in and year out. As Big 12 fans know, anything can happen in conference championship games, and I would expect to see Nebraska in the title game as much as anyone.
One caveat: The above prediction is based on a pure inter-division rotating schedule with no permanent interdivision opponents. It will be a big advantage for Nebraska in years it faces Indiana, and a big disadvantage when it faces revitalized Michigan, OSU or Penn State. Presuminjg there are three interdivisional games and five intradivision conference games each season (swapping interdivision games every two years), any team that gets stuck playing UofM, OSU and PSU all in the same season would be at a decided disadvantage to any team in your division playing Sparty, Purdue and Indiana.
If the divisions are broken down some other way (and I hope not), I still think Nebraska will be a constant contender. The most sensible splits will keep OSU and Michigan in the same division and Iowa and Nebraska in the same division, anticipating that a great Big Red-Hawkeye rivalry will quickly develop. I would be shocked if Michigan and MSU are separated, and it would be foolish to split Minnesota from Wisconsin, Northwestern from Illinois or Purdue and Indiana. Quite frankly, it would also be foolish to split Ohio State and Penn State. Some folks say that an E-W split (with UofM, OSU, PSU and MSU together) will result in an East-leaning imbalance, but I'm not so sure. Certainly in basketball it would, bit I'm not sure you have to split into divisions in sports with lots of games (basketball, baseball, etc.).
I don't care that much about the money that adding Nebraska brings, but am psyched about adding another traditional football power to our great conference.

I will be interested in seeing how Nebraska fares this year without Suh. Then we'll have a better idea of where they would stack up in the Valhalla Conference in 2011. Especially if ND, Texas, etc join up as well.

I replied above, too, but I guess I should've clarified what I meant by bad loss. I meant bad loss as in the score of the game, not the manner in which the game was lost. If speaking about the latter, though, their other 3 loses besides ISU were definitely bad as well.
I think Nebraska has as good a chance as any team to win the Big Ten next year. I also have a hunch Pelini is going to spank Tressel.
