Where to catch a Michigan game on Put-in-Bay?

Submitted by Helloheisman on

I am looking for help from the Mgoblog community. I checked the U of M friendly bar map and couldn't find anything. I promised my wife I would take her to Put-in-Bay for her birthday but I left a caveat that I get to catch the Michigan game and she obliged. I was just wondering where I can expect to go to catch the game and not get thrown out on my head for requesting to turn the game on. Thanks!

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a bar showing it. There are plenty of M fans in northern Ohio and plenty of Ohio fans who will want to see if we biff it/revel in the misery. We won't give them the satisfaction of course, but there you have it.

Ed's on Delaware Avenue might not be a bad bet. It's not a bad place to have a drink or two and it does have a bank of flatscreens as I recall.

As a minor note to the board at large, we're probably not going to let all threads like this stand - there is a reasonably comprehensive map available in the menus, although it has not been updated in some time. Put-In-Bay is a bit off the beaten path, but in larger metropolitan areas...well...it's a judgment call.

From what I understand we need a new map that gives the ability to edit out to a broader group of people. This would also probably involve finding which bars are now closed and whatnot since the current map is several years old in certain cases.

If anyone wants to work on that I'd be glad to lend my hand getting MGoBloggers in touch with each other and I could make a new sticky for the updated map.

To add to LSA's post, unless it's crazy busy we generally wait for someone to get their answer to a thread like this before pulling it. It's not technically something we want to have on the board indefinitely but if someone needs to crowdsource an answer about a Michigan game we don't want to leave you in the cold (or have you wander into a Buckeye bar).

If you want to watch the game with me take the Sonny S over to Middle Bass ($6 one way and runs every hour on the half hour back and forth) walk about 1/4 mile to the General Store.  They converted that to a pizza/bar this year and I know Ed the owner and he told me he'd put the Michigan game on one his big screens in the bar so I know we'll have it.

If you want to watch at PiB I would recommend NOT going to Frosty's unless you like having beer "accidently" spilled on you repeatidly.  As stated above - it's a "bro bar" and with OSU against Navy on at the same time the crowd will be in no mood to hear or watch anything Michigan.  The Roundhouse might have it on one of their TVs (maybe) but good luck getting anybody to change a channel if they don't.  MadDog will come on at 2:00 though and he's funny as hell.  Tony's Garage is no more and now goes by "Reel Bar" and that actually might not be a bad bet.  Last time I was there (about a month ago) they had a LOT of different games on multiple TVs BUT they will have a band playing in the afternoon so be prepared for dancers.

Serious though about watching the game on Middle Bass though.  I'll be at the bar with my wife and one Michigan Hockey's ex- assistant coaches FWIW

If he has one of the A-Frame Villas up on East Point then we're neighbors cuz my place sits directly behind those.  I dont know him by name but would prolly recognize him right away.  If he has one at Hazards I prolly dont know him unless we've crossed paths at either Walleyes or the General Store.  I dont go Hazards - it's kinda like the PiB "Bro" crowd that couldnt find a place to stay over there.

I fly my Michigan flag from the front of my cottage so if he's a Michigan guy he prolly knows where my place is.  Lord knows the Buckeyes do.

the roofie rape dungeon has a few HDTVs that air sporting events. Just tap the middle-aged bartender that still uses his frat name "Chet, the lay they'll always forget" on the shoulder in between spiking victim drinks for $5 a pop and he'll likely turn the game on. I've never been but hear he's cool.....outside of the whole teenage girl mass rape conspiracy thing. Have fun and watch that drink! Chet can be a prankster! That and he'll totally roofie you if a guy wants you. No hesitation. $5.

be at Put n Bay on Friday night. I would check out Mr Eds. I was there at the end of June and they were playing the soccer games on the tv there. So they might televise the Michigan game.

and the Bucks opener. Every bar will have the UM game on a TV or two, and every bar will be packed to capacity with scarlet and gray. Be prepared to hear it anywhere you go.

I just came back from PIB - most people will be outside at the pool bars (Mist or Splash) so the inside bars will be less crowded. You'll be set at either Frosty's or Mister Ed's. Both are probably equally bro-ey though. We had our fantasy football draft at Mr Eds, the beer selection was hit and miss (out of a lot) but the food was solid. The breakfast at Frosty's is pretty good.

Tons of M fans on the island btw. It's not 50/50, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was 40/60.
