The funny thing about this sign is that I probably would rather pee in whatever coffee shop I'll be sitting in the next time I order a book through my Kindle.
There are plenty of instances in which I go out of my way to make local purchases, but Borders' guilt-trip-in-support-of-a-dead-business-model never particularly moved me. When I make charitable donations, they generally aren't to large, impersonal, for-profit institutions.

I asked my local independant bookstore to order it for me so I would have it the day it came out. 2 weeks ago they called and let me come pick it up early. Good things come to those who support local businesses.

True, but obviously once it became a big national chain there was more uniformity between locations. My local mom-and-pop bookstore has always sold me new releases a week early -- if I ask nicely and not in front of other customers -- and gotten me anything I special ordered 1-2 weeks before the official release date. The corporate structure Borders took on, obviously, would prohibit that from ever happening.
That said, Borders was my favorite national chain bookseller.

not yet, but evidently A2 wanted just a local business and something that downtown desperately needed but didn't have to move in. Word on the street is that they already have that business in mind (or even under contract) and that it is possibly going to be a grocery store.
...but then again, what do I know.

I stopped by Meijers on my way to work and they didn't have anything at 08:30. Went to B&N at lunch and they had the copy I bought plus at least one underneath it at noon today. B&N at 14 mile and John R.

Barnes and Noble on John R in Troy had some when I was there around 1:00 today. I got the last one in the New Arrival section but there were a couple copies left in the sports section.

Barnes and Noble in Northville had 20 or so copies left as of 1pm. But they were selling fast. Even the clerks were a little befudled as to the popularity of a book they had never heard of.

I was at the northville one (6 mile and haggerty) and they had at least 30 at 10am. If they're truly sold out, Bacon is going to seriously cash in. The clerk did say I was the fourth person to buy it and they'd only been open an hour.

Nicolas books in ann arbor, westgate plaza on jackson and stadium has plenty. I was just there. They are good buddies with john u bacon. Its where he is having a talk/signing friday. Local and locally owned! :)

MDen in Briarwood Mall has them too (at least as of 7pm). Good to know that DB didn't end up being able to prevent MDen from carrying it (I think someone, maybe Bacon, said that he tried).

Why would DB care? He specifically mentioned MDen in an article last week about potentially merchandising the away unis worn in East Landfill. The way I read your post DB has an unfavorable opinion of MDen. That's not necessairly true.

Ok, I ordered the book about 6 weeks ago from Amazon. It came out yesterday and Amazon shipped yesterday. It was delivered today. Will start reading and then reread next week when on Jury duty in downtown Los Angeles
