Where are they now - Brad Cochran

My current summer job is carpet cleaning in metro detroit, and today I happened to be in a house with Michigan logos all over the place. Eventually, I saw a plaque saying "All-American Defensive Back -- Brad Cochran". I guess he played just before I was born so I had no idea who he was, but he seems to be doing quite well.

Anybody have any fond memories of this guy? I figure he must have been pretty legit.

He played in the 80's

And I believe he was an All-American but busted as an NFL player.

Ah yes, thank you Wikipedia

First google hit isn't very

First google hit isn't very happy sounding. Sounds like he suffered some major depression issues back in the day. But then he did this:

When Schembechler heard what Cochran had been through, he agreed to give him another chance. But Cochran, who's 6'3" and back to 219 pounds, would have to earn back his scholarship. By the first game he had regained it, along with his starting job. He finished '83 with 64 tackles. Last season he made 77 and led the Wolverines in interceptions with five. As a fifth-year senior this fall ('82 was a "medical redshirt" season), Cochran is a major reason that Michigan has given up just one TD this season.

Sounds like Bo was taking unnecessary chances on kids and not doing his recruiting homework to me. [/sarcasm]

I remember three things:1)

I remember three things:

1) He was a very good player.

2) He left the team and came back later. I believe he was diagnosed for depression.

3) He dropped a sure interception late in the 4th quarter, which gave Chuck Long and the #1 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes another chance. They kicked a field goal to win 12-10. Michign was ranked #2 going into the game.

High School

I went to the same high school as Brad (before he transferred to Brother Rice for his senior season), played the same position and wore the same number. We both had all-state in common...Brad in football, for me my insurance company.

Only Player Bo Was Afraid Of

I'm not sure where I read this, it may have come from one of Bo's books. But I do remember Bo saying that Cochran was the only player he was ever afraid of. Because Cochran was mentally unstable and had to take heavy psychotropic meds.

Brad Cochran

Had a chemical imbalance and didnt know what was causing it... he told Bo to F-off s a soph and transferred to Colorado... after he got diagnosed and treated with meds, he transferred back to Michigan, and Bo forgave him and let him back on the team... with hard work and ability, Cochran became an All-American DB at Michigan and was one of the all-time UM greats.

He blew out his knee in NFL training camp with the Raiders and didnt play after that.

When the 1997 NC team was on the bus to go play Penn State, there was a guy standing in the road waiving the bus down. The Bus Driver pulled over and it was Brad Cochran holding a dozen Roses for the team and wishing them luck.

Brad Cochran is a true Michigan Man, and was a great success story there and shows that you can turn your life around if you try and with a little help.

MHSAA

Interesting article on how Cochran brought about a new MHSAA rule for transferring schools.

carpet cleaning

Your house members are always exposed to germs and the biggest source of stimulating allergies is your upholstery and carpets. The carpet and upholstery cleaning service will sanitize any unhealthy bacteria, pollen, pest or dust mites that can spread illnesses through the furniture or carpets.
