The O'Korn thing was apparently common knowledge to everyone but us. When he went in, nearly every beat reporter and Brian and/or Ace themselves said "this was the plan."
Given that everyone knew it but didn't report it, it's like Harbaugh gave all of them a trust exercise.

He'll play more v Wisconsin and MSU. Didn't even need him with how fast, strong, and deep our LB corps are. Even Gil and Furbush got extended playing time.

From what I could tell, Furbush played pretty much the whole game. Gil got a lot of run in the 1st quarter and then McCray took over.

Furbush is one of my favorite players. He is big and fast. I am starting to think we have the best linebackers in the big ten. Kept asking myself, who the hell is number seven and then I'm like " oh shit, that's Hudson". No wonder he was all over the field. Bush will be an all american.

my observation was when they went 4 DL in the beginning Mone was in. they pulled Mine for Furbush when they switched to 3 DL. first guy in for Hurst on 3 DL was Marshall, and Solomon at end of game. I didn't see Dwumfour.

I don't think you save a guy who is perfectly fit for defending the triple option FB dive and in general causing interior run disruption cause of past injury issues. That will be a game made for his skill set, Air Force isn't a cupcake. Last year they won 10 games and beat Boise State. Under Calhoun (10 years) they've only missed a bowl and won under 6 games once. They've won more games than we have the past 3 years.
We should obviously win, but this isn't a game you sit a starter.

Agree completely. 3 man fronts against an option attack is just rolling out a red carpet for the dive FB to block the A-gap LB with the QB following right behind and into the secondary. A 3 man front almost requires committing two LBs to whichever gap the FB and QB attack and also guess work on which side from center they will option.

From what I read no injury issues. But the game plan involved mostly three man fronts on the DL. I assume it was to get more speed on the field because Mone is more of a mammoth space eater. He doesn't have the speed that Mo and Gary have, but that's just not his game.
Expect to see a lot more of him when Michigan takes on teams like MSU or Wisconsin.

As far as evaluating Don Brown, Harbaugh actually asked someone for their opinion on who he should look at for his new DC. They told him Don Brown, I just can't remember who it was. Someone pointed him in Don Browns direction, but I am sure once he started his evaluation he liked what he saw.

Solomon also didn't get many snaps until the last series. I guess we were looking for more speed and less size in this one. I'm hoping we're able to play the younger guys a bunch for the next few games and keep the 1's, particularly on the d-line fresh.

Soloman is bigger than Hurst but not by much, and still under (or right around) 300. He is also known for his explosiveness, first step and ability to penetrate.
So, I think they probably kept Soloman off the field because he was not quite ready for whatever reason.

The 3 lineman sets were a pretty good part of browns attack at BC verse teams that were trying to spread out the field. It is a little surprising that it was not a bigger part of the defense last year, and that he ran that practically all game.
I think it will be interesting to see if he uses Mone in the future when he uses these fronts. Yesterday, he opted for guys who can create pass rush. However, there may be situation where brown may want a planetoid size nose while using the 3 man line.

I think so too. Since brown started out with 4DL and quickly changed to a 3 man front, it seemed like he sensed that Florida wasn't going to take advantage of having less beef up front. To me, it seemed that most 3man fronts still had at least 1 LB rushing. Can't wait for the UFR.
Also underappreciated was our edge contain. How many perimeter plays did Florida run where the guy is contained and gets turned back right into a hustling Mo Hurst!

Conceptually, sure. But in reality you're not going to trade a bunch fo snaps from Mo Hurst for a bunch of Mone snaps. Fro a personnel-standpoint, Michigan gets much more out of a Winovich-Hurst-Gary line. If you wanted to go bigger a Hurst-Mone-Gary line may make more sense but am not sure that would really play into the strengths of those players and you sacrifice a ton of pass-rush (which, granted, is usually not what a 3-4 line is designed for).

We will see plenty of Mone this year. Having a good rotation is critical. We got some good guys to plug and play.
