When will the new scoreboards be complete?

Submitted by Ryanonymous on
I've been searching around the internets for updated pictures but everything I find simply shows the support posts. It doesn't seem like much progress has been made since the spring game. I for one am excited to see these new boards and how they will add to the look of what is already the most recognizable venue (arguably) in college sports. Does anyone know when we can expect completion of our new hi-tech videoboards? Pics welcome :)

Rumor is that they're not going to be done for another five years. It's terrible and everyone in Ann Arbor is panicking! They are so glad this Tressel/Ohio State stuff happened because now no one is concerned (well, at least not until NOW, when the 5697th thread asking this question was just started on MGOBLOG by YOU) with scoreboards due to the OSU brouhaha.

I sure hope this, and the next 4500 guys who post this thread, don't turn the public's attention back to this most important issue and find out Michigan doesn't have a clue and started a project they might never finish!

I drive past the Stadium every couple of days to look at the progress... They've added more support columns (as the scoreboards will be wider and heavier) and painted them silver so far.

DB said the scoreboards will be as tall as the two towers.  This pic from the inside is instructive though:

Perhaps someone with photoshop could correct...please.

Either way, it's gonna be awesome!

My old roommate works for the company that is putting in the new scoreboards..

He is done with the project now, but said they were suppose to be put up the first part of June.  If they haven't been put in yet then they have been delayed for some reason.

I told him to get me some pics when they are all done.

I run past the stadium twice a day and drive past it most days. Progress on the basketball stuff has been a lot quicker than on the scoreboards. God damn what a beautiful exterior the stadium has these days though.

to extend the length it takes to put the scoreboards up, that way less photos of them get out before opening kickoff. If I was DB, I would wait pretty close to the opening week to install them, so the build up about them is at a high. Since everything leaks to the media these days(tsio) I will assume this is impossible. I, personally, would like to see them for the first time at the season opener.

Based on recent form... Brandon is likely to deny everything anyway.  When shown photos of the new scoreboards going up, he'll deny that they are accurate representations.  When Mark Snyder asks him; "But, Dave, we just left the Stadium.  We saw what they look like!" He'll deny it again.  And then, on the night of September 2, Brandon will reveal that Michigan is actually going back to special throwback scoreboards, with people inside hanging numbers up inside little windows.  Like Wrigley Field.

I'm no engineer, but I would guess it depends on a variety of factors.

  1. How long do they need to do all the proper testing to ensure that the installation is done correctly?
  2. What other events are taking place in/around the stadium prior to opening week?
  3. What other projects does the company have that require the resources currently allocated to the Michigan Stadium project?
  4. What additional cost to the Athletic Department would extending the installation incur?
  5. How eager is Dave Brandon to just see those babies up there and watch Michigan highlights (and movies) in all their HD glory on the big screen?

Just drove down Kipke this afternoon to take a look. At least I hope it's just a primer coat of some sort; seems to me painting them dark blue would be a better idea.
