When is the media going to expose Brandon?

Submitted by Marshmallow on

Yeah, I know, we have our coach, let's move on.  I say no.  UM isn't a private school or the CIA.  The alumni, students and Michigan taxpayers have a right to know how Brandon's so-called "process" worked, what happened with Harbaugh and Miles and when Hoke was really offered.  There was a lot of reporting during what I refer to as "Hell Week" for Michigan fans after the bowl game that contradicts Brandon's public statements.  Michigan should having a winning team, but it should be about integrity too.  That starts from the top down.  Brandon has displayed nothing but the utmost arrogance, condescension and lack of integrity.  Who in the media is going to take him to task?  Isn't the purpose of journalism to promote transparency and accountability?

And besides, I'm sure Brandon felt that not giving every detail of his process gave him a competitive advantage.  And for those who are questioning whether there actually was a national search, even if he was settled on Hoke, don't you think it was a good idea to talk to as many people as possible to get all the info to make sure it actually was an informed decision?

"you better let go of that anger...it'll eat you up inside..."

The media is really nasty. It can expose you, me and perhaps DB. We  are all on the same side...correct?

I don't disagree with you. I thought something was very fishy when Hoke's name was mentioned as the new coach the day before RR got fired. DB comes out that night and says no decision had been made. The next day RR gets fired and a week later Hoke is name HC. How did it get leaked that a guy no one ever expected to be coach, and then a week later it comes to fruition? Something's fishy for sure. On the surface it would appear there wasn't a "national" coaching search which would be a damn shame.

How did it get leaked that a guy no one ever expected to be coach, and then a week later it comes to fruition?

Uh, because the media did what they always do and speculated?  And because one of them speculated, that was reason enough for them to parrot what they saw elsewhere?  And because a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while?

Jeezis, I didn't like the way the process happened either, but because I thought it was poorly managed, not because I think there was a gunman on the grassy knoll.

I have no problem admitting I'm bitter about it. Let's be honest though, who in their right mind would have guessed Brady Hoke even before RR was fired? This guy would have been about 100th down the line(he may turn out to be the best coach in UM history)as far as "finding the nut". Its just too coincidental for me that's all. You don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to wonder what really went down.

Why don't YOU expose him? It should be easy, with all the things he did wrong. So have at it.

I still think Hoke was his guy all along, because he wanted a coach who wasn't "bigger than" the program, like even Harbaugh or Miles would be. That might be wrong, but it's my guess.

As for a lack of integrity, I disagree -- he vigorously defended Rodriguez to the NCAA, he gave him the full buyout when they could have tried to invoke the NCAA violations clause, and there were no leaks at all about the coaching search from the Michigan side. You can disagree with the firing, or the timing of it, or the timing of the hiring, or even who he hired, but I really don't see where the "lack of integrity" thing comes from.

But where is the lack of integrity? If you disagree with his decisions, or the timing of his decisions, fine. But I just don't see the "lack of integrity" thing. He's been very careful in his words about offers, I think to protect Michigan, Hoke, and even Miles and Harbaugh. But what exactly has he done that's so sinister, or corrupt?

Do you want to get into the personnel changes? How he fired Jamie Morris, after he broke the rules and then lied about it? How he swept out everyone involved with Michigan football's first brush with major violations -- while still criticizing how ridiculous the reporting was about that event?

Your grapes, sir, are quite sour, and you're making me wish His Dudeness was posting instead of you.

publicly held coaching searches, you will never, ever be able to hire a coach. There are too many things that need to be confidential.

So this is a really bad idea you've proposed.

Call Michael Rosenberg, maybe the two of you can hatch something together.

Negotiations are always carried out in a public venue, the truth is what it is, JH and LM decided they could use UofM to increase the fatness of a wallet. Good bye and good riddance to both.

This whole idea that Brandon dropped the ball regarding Harbaugh is really starting to piss me off.

It may not have occurred to you, but Harbaugh had a say in this whole thing, as did his WIFE and newborn baby.  He just got a tremendous raise and the opportunity to challenge himself at the highest level in his chosen profession.  And, oh by the way, he doesn't have to pick up and move his family.

Harbaugh came right out and told Brandon that he was going to the pros.  End of story.

Christ, we're having a tremendous day with recruiting despite all the negative press that it was impossible to salvage this class, and you want to bring that shit up.  Go away.

- RR blows himself up (in OSU or Miss St, argue about that all you want)

- waited to talk to JH (got shot down)

- talked to LM (likely an honest dialogue on DB part.  LM tells him to go scratch)

- made a few other inquiries (likely half-hearted)

- offered Hoke

here we are.  can't say I can see anything else he did wrong.  sure it would have been nice to have things settled earlier but not sure how that could have happened if you were going to wait for JH.

unfortunately there is not a good time to conduct a coaching change.  I have always felt that the NCAA should encourage hires to be made after Jan bowls.  However, with the signing date in early Feb along with early enrollment, that becomes difficult.  Perhaps the signing date should be push back two weeks to allow for a more orderly change of coaching ranks.

So we land 3 recruits today and you just couldn't handle all the good vibes. Let's see what can I come up with to bring everyone back down into my hell.........Oh yea let's go after Dave Brandon that ought to bring everyone down.

STFU and move on.

Would you also like a transcript of the conversations between Brandon and RR?  Should that be public knowledge?

How about we demand the football team publish its playbook and open up all practices to media?

Will that satisfy your need to know?

Come on, you don't have the right to know just because you pay taxes (I'm ignoring the fact that the athletic department is independent from the University).

1.  There may be no written record of any offers being made to Miles, Harbaugh, or whomever.  There almost certainly weren't minutes taken during Brandon's conversations with them;

2.  No coaching search is pretty;

3.  We're not talking about Watergate or the invasion of Iraq.  You're asking a lot of the sports media to pick through Brandon's records (those that even exist) to find out the details of a coaching search that is over.
