What's the Status on Bryan Hogan's Injury?

Has there been any word on the status of Bryan Hogan? Even if Hogan is good to go for this Friday, do you mess with the team's mojo right now and replace Hunwick? Personally, I think you go with your best player if he proves he's ready, but it's a tough call given how well the team has played the past 3 weeks.

"...what do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?"

"Fix the cigarette lighter."

"that's what she said" jokes aside... hockey playoffs are all about the hot goalie. If Hunwick is playing well enough for us to win, we should keep riding him.

I think Hunwick is doing OK - but I think the major reason we are winning is because we aren't allowing that many good shots on him. If we get a game where he is getting peppered with shots, I'm not sure he will be able to do so well. He looks so scared and frantic when things start happening around him - he also gives up huge rebounds. I would feel much better with Hogan back, especially taking on Miami. Although you have to give Hunwick huge props for doing what he has done, especially since he's a walk on right?

Last year, Sauer and Hogan had similar stats but the team played significantly better in front of Hogan. Perhaps we are seeing that again right now between Hogan and Hunwick. The reason we aren't giving up many good shots on Hunwick may be that, for whatever reason, the team has a different mentality with him in there and that is what is producing the result.

It seems that the team is much more consicious about their defensive responsibilities with him in net this year, and hey-- he's given up 0 non-PPG's in the last two weekends. Stay out of the penalty box and we might be able to "hot goalie" ourselves into the tourney....

And all 3 goals for MSU on Saturday happened with him in the box. He's a stupid penalty waiting to happen any time he is on the ice. He has also own goaled twice this season. I'd prefer to let Moffie do his job, provided that Summers is back in the line up. Even then, I'd probably rather see Scooter playing D over Llewellyn.

Again, he gets the job done on the ice. There's a reason he's good for one or two penalties early in a game. You notice that nobody wants to skate against him after that, because he hits hard. He does his job. He doesn't get scored on very often when he's on the ice, hence his +/- being so good. Generally when that line makes a mistake on defense, it's Burlon making it.

I'd rather see Langlais pulled, who can't make a pass for the life of him, can't hit for the life of him, and in general is only in because he's good for a point every couple of games, as opposed for any defensive ability he may have (which is very little). Unfortunately, ignored is the fact that he's good for a -1 every game for screwing up.

When you're the guy sitting in the box that has caused the penalty directly leading to most of the opponent's goals.

Let's factor a -2 for every penalty he's taken that has led to a goal and see how that goes.

Also, if he were that good, he'd be in on the PK (when he's not the one who took the penalty). Of course, that's not the case, and that's where being a good defender can hurt a +/- since those are the guys actually out on the ice shorthanded / when good defense is most needed.

This is Michigan.

As long as Hunwick is riding .01 higher than Hogan, keep him in. If he dips below Hogan's GAA then switch them, but until then don't. Hunwick has the potential to start next year. He's only going to improve, now that he'll be getting more attention from the coaches.
