so much for that
What's happening on the 28th?
Press conference to discuss Gardners medical redshirt
First: I don't think they would do that and they wouldn't make it a big deal
Second: We won't know about the redshirt until his senior year/possibly redshirt junior year
But sir, but sir, BUT NOTHING
I guess he works for ESPN and has been pretty solid with his cryptic messages
He said big news was dropping on the 28th. Not recruiting related.
Thats how I roll!
In my opinion. I hate ND with a passion and have grown up with that hate. Losing that rivalry would be akin to losing part of my childhood. Yeah, ND is overrated and annoying but they give us so much entertainment and it makes it that much more satisfying when we beat them. Can you honestly say that it would have been better without UTL, without Brian Kelly gifs, without making fun of Weis, Clausen, etc.? Not to mention that everytime we beat them we increase our win pct. lead. If we drop them they schedule some pancake win. Look I hate ND, probably more than most on this board, but I look forward to the ND game more than almost any other. If this is true, I don't like it.
I'm hoping that the news is just about another game like the Alabama game. Hopefully against some SEC team.
Yep, that's Simba made out of a pineapple.
I would like to end the series knowing Michigan broke their hearts three straight times and there is nothing they can do about it.

Perfectly said. This isn't a team or teams we could replace that would be better than ND. I'd rather drop MSU before dropping ND.
Dropping the ND series will make me cry. Possibly literally.
Intensity is a lot of guys that run fast.
... were not dropping ND, they are dropping us. We share an unfair relationship, in this hectic time of college restructuring for ND not to joing the BIG is just a slap in the face after they ride the coat tail of the BIG.
Michigan playing a team from the SEC or something like that in the begining of the college football season like that will be good for college footbal, the BIG, and good for Michigan.
My down the road prediction is (possibly after State following suit) that this leads to ND joining the BIG in a year or two, and placed in our conference.

Must be hard to keep covering up the lies.
I'm turning 21 so it's kind of a big deal. Probably press conference worthy.

Going to a 9-game conference schedule, something had to give and if it's dropping ND that's fine with me. ND had their invitation to join our conference and we got the middle finger from them, so let them pay the price. GO BLUE!

And I will say that ND people I trust HAVE heard this rumor on their end. Cannot comment on the voracity of said rumors, but it isn't coming from nowhere.
It depends if we are going to get home and homes like OSU does with other schools then it would be good, but if we are going to schedule like virginia tech did this year then I want Notre Dame on the schedule. I'd rather we had a game with them every four years or so.
903 wins most in college football
damn it big ten this 9 game schedule sucks ass! now we're never going to get a good non conference opponent. It will be two MAC teams and one FCS team for the non conference.
903 wins most in college football
IF this happens. Look for a MAC, lower level FBS school or FCS school on the schedule next season on 9/22 as a home game.
Also I heard some rumblings of Michigan vs FAU in 2013?
That could be the filler for that open date since FAU has an open date on that schedule.

Why would we cancel the biggest early-season rivalry in college football? And one that we seem to have the upper hand on lately? And recently produced one of the highest rated ESPN cfb games of all time? And commands sellouts like no other game? And is one of the core traditions of both schools? And ...
I have mixed feelings about cancelling ND, but we've only met 39 times; I wouldn't say it's a core tradition for either school.
It's a fun rivalry, and growing up in Chicago I always considered ND to be Michigan's second biggest rival, but OTOH I would be all for ND having Purdue and MSU and nobody else in the midwest. Then again, I want them to have the same BCS rules as Army, Navy and BYU, so maybe that opinion is a bit skewed.
Go Blue!
My guess (and this is a total stab in the dark) is the announcement of a one-off home game against Boise State.
btw Ohio State canceled their 2018-2019 games against Tennessee citing the 9 game schedule as the source. This seems like more evidence that the poster above is right in his view that this was from the 9 game schedule.
903 wins most in college football
But the 9 game conference schedule is coming in 2017 I believe, I doubt that there would be a special press conference announcing that we're dropping ND for that
If you're doing nothing, how do you know when you're finished?
Disregard previous reply. This will be exciting news for many.
the only reason id be okay with dropping notre dame is if we start picking up home and homes or more neutral site games. sure, nd is overrated, but it cant be argued that theyre better than playing eastern, air force or umass. theres just no hype going into those games, whereas with nd it doesnt matter how overrated they are, its always a huge game.
if DB is dropping notre dame, he'd better damn well be bringing us home and homes with the likes of usc, florida, or texas. i dont care how much nd has spurned us and the big ten in the past. its still nd, and getting rid of them is eradicating part of our tradition. plus, i thoroughly enjoy crushing their spirits on the field every year.
It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk
Has anybody considered that it could be the other way around? That ND could be the ones "dropping" us from the schedule? Maybe that "impossible" schedule is just too much or they're finally joining a conference?
ND can't afford to drop Michigan from their schedule. We're either their second or third biggest game and they negotiate their own TV contract. They need us in their lives way, way more than we need them, because we have the entire B1G scheduling slate in our TV deal, which ND doesn't have.
Go Blue!
If we drop ND effective 2014 and the other Bigten schools follow (MSU, purdue), then we force them into joining the conference. They will be members by 2016.
Go Blue!
I'd be fine with dropping ND for a few years, but not for good. It's getting kind of boring being the majority of their strength of schedule. Scheduling ND is kind of like scheduling a low level MAC team anyways, except we usually get a rankings bump for the privilege of beating them.
How many times have you been on the freeway and had someone fly by you at 100 mph then end up 2 cars ahead of you at the off ramp? What's the point? -Mark Harmon
is forcing ND to join for football to balance out Navy or Temple and they now have to soften their non-conference schedule to just play the other service academies and USC??
If you're gonna replace ND with another marquee program, you don't make it USC or another pac10 school. Why do that with the risk of redundancy in the rose bowl? Especially when you've got so many big programs out there in other leagues. Texas, Florida, Georgia, LSU would all be better bets.
true, i just don't want to replace them with some low level MAC or Sun Belt team. if dave brandon wants to replace notre dame then fine, but i just don't want to add another nobody to the home schedule. at least bring in a middling BCS team.
but i suppose these days, its all about money. and home games make money.

I was hoping it was the reinstatement of NIke... I....hate....Adidas....
Professor X is our defensive coordinator.
ND is part of the cycle of having Nebraska, Ohio and ND all away one year and all home the next. By swapping them out we could balance our schedule better.
At this time ND takes advantage of the B1G by having wins against MSU and Purdue and a high profile constest with UM, but not having to play a whole B1G schedule. When B1G goes to 9 internal gaimes, we won't want one of our three remaining games to be ND.
From a recruiting standpoint we recruit against ND all the time. If they didn't have the three B!G ten gaimes it would be harder for them to compete for our talent. They also would not have a schedule that would justiify them being ranked highly year after year. I believe Delaney saw this coming when he announced that B1G would go to nine game season. This will eventually force ND to join B1G or become more irrelavant.
Go Blue!
They could always play Southern Florida again, right?
Better, they could join a conference like Conference Intergalactic (formerly the Big East).
If this is the case, then I suppose I still wouldn't mind playing them now and again, but one would hope that realignments and our move to the 9-game in-conference schedule should send them a message about being independent and its limitations in the modern era of college football. Next year, however, NBC will have the perfect Halloween special - ND plays Oklahoma on the 27th of October.

I'm hoping it is news that we are not, after all, going to play Appy State again (the worst scheduling blunder I can recall) and, instead, are going to play someone decent in a home-and-home series.
Since the series resumed with Notre Dame in 1978, we have had a history of two year breaks from playing them...1983-84, 1995-96, 2000-01. I wouldn't mind another small break but nothing permanent.
When Penn State joined the Big Ten in 1993, Bo said we should drop our series with Notre Dame because that was too many difficult games to play in one season. Recall that in those days, Penn State and Notre Dame were a hell of lot better than they are today and we did not play MAC schools or FCS schools in non-conference games back then either.
Go Blue! Always!

Is this rumor that we are permanently dropping Notre Dame or just for a couple years? I thought dropping Notre Dame from the schedule in between contracts was part of the plan all along.
